Utah is at Noon (Surprises No One)

Let’s face it, until Pitt gets consistently better. Until the team starts the season strong, the Mouse Monopoly is not going to be interested in airing Pitt games in the late afternoon or at night. Utah isn’t too good this year, and may not even have its starting QB for the game.

About the only reason for the Utah-Pitt game not to air at noon would be a concession to the Pac-12 and Utah to not have a team playing at 10 am by their internal clocks. But, this is not to be. The Big East Tweeted that the Utah-Pitt game on October 15 will be a Noon game on ESPNU. I will be curious how lethargic Utah will be with that starting time.

As long as we keep winning I do not care what time they play. Need to convince my friends to tailgate after the game as well as before the game. Yes, it is a bummer for those who have to drive a distance to get to Pittsburgh the day game and I will be one of them.

Nothing like tailgating at 7 am…..ugh…..

Remember, our game at Iowa started at 11 am their time … something pretty common for the western half of the Big 10 and eastern half of the Big 12.

They say it’s difficult for western teams to come east with the time adjustment. I hope it is, because playing at Utah in last year’s opener with their fans sure made it a tough enviroment for the Panthers.

By the way, I love the noon games. The more inconvient it is for Utah, the better.

aw shucks

Rutgers coach Greg Schiano said today he will miss competing against former Pitt coach Dave Wannstedt when the teams get together Saturday in New Brunswick, N.J.

“I feel for Dave because he really busted his hump in putting that team together,” Schiano said. “Then, all of a sudden, he is out. Like it or not, that is the business we are in. It’s been fun competing with Dave, with guys that you know.”

Schiano hired three coaches from Wannstedt’s Pitt staff, offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti, tight ends coach Brian Angelichio and secondary coach Jeff Hafley.

“I talked to Dave before I hired them. Dave spoke very highly of all of them, obviously, or I wouldn’t have hired them.”

Everyone misses competing against Dave. Thereas a new sheriff in town, high octane Todd.

Yeah, I bet Schiano will miss Wannstedt. Rutgers did pretty well against Wannstedt’s teams…

Anyone else catch Oliver Luck’s latest statements about the Big East? He basically said that he believes replacing Syracuse with Navy is a win for the league. He also insinuates that the combination of Navy and Air Force is better than Pitt and Syracuse. It is going to be funny if WVU ever gets a bid to leave the Big East and he jumps at it, then tries to explain why he is not a hypocritical asshole. Seriously, he basically lets every other conference know that WVU will jump ship, but when somebody else gets the invite he starts lobbing insults? Grow up!

If you think about it, Rutgers always played Pitt tough, but they had touble with West Virginia’s spread offence. I’m curious how Tod Graham’s offence will do this weekend in New Jersey.

Sorry, the link for Luck’s statements:

It’s going to be interesting to see how lethargic I am for that Utah game, as well.

Until we get more than 35,000 people in the stadium, we should be happy they let us play organized football at all.

Comment by Chris 10.03.11 @ 4:49 pm

No surprise on the Ollie Luck sour grapes comment. This from the same genius that somehow sold serving alcohol at the stadium as a solution to WVU’s alcohol fueled fan behavior problems. He’s entertaining to say the least!

If Oliver Luck really believes that Air Force is a better conference opponent than Syracuse, he is certifiably crazy. Luck should look at himself and his university for being in the position that it is in. I feel no sympathy for WVU.

The 12PM start should screw up the Utes. So be it. The Mouse sets the times because the Mouse pays the bills and they all know it. Steelers fans start tailgating at 7AM, if not the night before, so what?

That’s why its important to actually WIN nationally televised games against BCS schools. I cringe when people poo poo these losses saying that Big East games are what counts. Tell that to the networks and to recruits.

Thank you for such a fantastic web site. On what other blog could anyone get this kind of information written in such an insightful way? I have a presentation that I am just now working on, and I have been looking for such info.

I have been surfing online more than three hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours. It’s pretty worth enough for me. Personally, if all webmasters and bloggers made good content as you did, the internet will be a lot more useful than ever before.
