The decision is set for 2:30 this afternoon. Right at the end of school, just before winter break begins. That’s good planning.
The choice will be Pitt or Alabama.
The recruiting experts seem to think the lean is to Pitt.
I’m just hoping he doesn’t do the whole hat thing. Just about every variation of that has been played out. I’d rather just see him rip open his shirt and show a Pitt jersey underneath. But, that’s just me.
I know some people are turned off by the whole announcement thing. I don’t have a problem with it. These kids are pursued to ridiculous ends. Filled with such levels of crap about how much teams and coaches need them, want them, how they are the piece they need.
It all ends once they sign their NLI and scholarship papers. They lose all leverage. All their choices, all their control is out the window. They belong to the school and coach after that.
Let them have a little bit of fun and extra attention.
UPDATE: As everyone probably knows, Robert Foster picked Alabama. Ah, well. Guess we can at least hope that Saban gets lured to the Browns.
I don’t go on Bama sites, is the Foster verbal also big news for Bama fans?
EJ Borghetti?@PittBorghetti
Everyday #Pitt WRs walk past Biletnikoff Awards won by @LarryFitzgerald & Antonio Bryant, get coached by Biletnikoff winner Bobby Engram
However, with all of that said, it is absolutely horrible timing on his part given the memorial service and national day of greiving for the young children in Connecticut. I wish someone had advised him to move the date, not because it would bring any of those poor souls back, but merely out of respect.
I don’t have a problem with it, unless there is local school involved, and the decision is going to be for another school
This just happened to us a few years ago, can’t remember the recruit.
Example. Kid in Nebraska is down to Nebraska and Miami. Has a press conference, has fun, keeps everyone guessing and waiting and anticipating, and from beneath his chair, he pulls out a Miami hat!!!!
That’s just me, I find that classless.
Not a big deal, just my opinion.
One question – Rivals has Boyd as a WR and scout has him a Safety. What are the chances he plays O and what are the chances he plays D? Watching his highlight tape he looks like a real home run hitter too.
He then proceeded to run for 241 yards and 4 TDs in a PITT upset over 5th ranked VT. Still ranks as the #2 sporting event I have ever been to behind the 2nd half of game 5 of the Phillies Rays World Series. And I was there at the Garden when we wont the BEC. Doesn’t even compare.
Granted, this is a chance for high level recruits to bask in the limelight for the moment. Some, a bit too much, yeah, those guys end up showing that they are a “piece”.
Since Foster supposedly has no idea who gets the nod until the time of his annoucement, if he intends to play the “hat game” may I suggest that somebody at the ceremony convienently misplaces the Alabama hat at around 2:25pm to improve Pitt’s odds?
If he does pick The Tide, I hope that he has developed a taste for grits and has no issues with being referred to as boy from time to time by some of the more indigenous of the population.
I realize that statement sounds crude and sterotypic, but last time that I checked, Tuscaloosa remains in the deep south and unfortunately old ways die hard for some.
Not that there isn’t plenty of racism here in W PA, but it is different in the south.
gc, The political anaylst, Carville, described Pennsylvania as … Phildelphia on one end, Pittsburgh on the other end, and Alabama in between. (remember the Grand Poobah of the KKK lives in PA)
Pittsburgh on one end,
Philly on the other,
and Pennsyltucky in the middle.
Hey about Robert Foster, hopefully he come to Pitt and adds another Bilitnikoff Award that he put in the trophy case next to Ftizgerald and Bryant’s.
Just flushed the toilet and it drained in a counterclockwise motion! Doesn’t look good
If you’re not a paying member of rivals or scout.
I can’t see the feed yet though…
2 minutes!
I refuse to believe it’s bama
Wd, don’t be a douche
Oh well, good luck Foster
Best of luck to you Mr. Foster. Now the real fun begins, go prove yourself, worthy.
I don’t wish him bad luck, but, I don’t wish him good luck either.
I don’t know him. Move on to the next guy.
so with out big time players we need lots of big line men get line men chryst big ones.
What, you got a thing for him??? LOL
I looked over the current roster, it doesn’t look to good. A lot of short receivers. Not real good fit into Chryst offense. I don’t think it’s the end of the world with Foster not signing but a lot of 5 feet 10inch guys at Wr doesn’t look good since Saddler and Jones did nothing this year.
But now I’m remembering this is pitt were talking about. So any optimism will be quickly stomped on by our beloved panthers.
Next will be that we won’t get boyd, and get stomped by mississipppi. Then donald and street to the nfl lol
I have no inside sources or privileged information but I felt much more confident about Foster than I do Boyd. I would a little surprised if Boyd lands at Pitt.
It would have absolutely been a coup to land Foster, but it’s time to move forward. Pitt will survive.
Sounds like you might need to get a life. You’re hung up on an 18 year old kid.
Let me guess, you’re one of his coaches or something, or some hanger on.
I allready said above, no big deal, time to move onto the next guy. There’s always a next guy.
I think you have some real issues if you’re an adult and you have so much invested in this kid.
He’s just some kid, plays football.
This happens when you can only do one thing.
Sad.
I’m just trying to put myself in the shoes of a highly touted 18 year old recruit. It’s really hard for ANY school, let alone Pitt, to compete with all that Alabama has to offer. The chance to compete for a national title year and year out, playing before 100,000+ screaming fans, who wouldn’t want that?
Very boring, low key. Kind of like Ped State.
If he was going for game day experience, he would have been much better off going to LSU, Auburn or Texas A&M.
Now, Texas A&M, there is tradition, pageantry and revelry!!!!!!!!!!!
Plus, Johnny Football!!!!!!!!!! Heisman Time!!!
Now, that’s a school!!!
well hell you cant win them all.
If Alabama gets put on probation, you know??
Hope his handlers told him about that, and weren’t keeping it to themselves!!!
After Foster’s official visit to Alabama in late October, he tweeted he was ready to make a commitment. He later backed off, but he wrote that his father favored Alabama while his mother wanted him to go to Pittsburgh.
His father, Robert Foster II, liked the Tide better because he felt Foster could play for a national championship in Tuscaloosa, but he did not push his son the Tide’s way. The Tide had to work to get Foster’s mother on board, who initially did not approve of Alabama.
“I needed to have reassurance they could accommodate him on the academic level,” Sherrice Clements said Wednesday.
Education was the biggest factor in Foster’s commitment. After struggling academically his freshman and sophomore years, Foster has made the classroom his focus and stays after school with a tutor twice a week.
At Central Valley, Foster has an extensive circle and group for support. Alabama was able to show him they can provide the same for him.
“The most important thing,” he said Tuesday, “is the academic and support system.”
Hmmm
BUT
Kids choose to go to local schools over more established powerhouses all the time to stay closer to home.
Shell picked Pitt over bama just last year for goodness sake!
You don’t build yourself into a power until you can put that fence up around your school’s region and keep the top guys at home. That’s the bare minimum if you want to move from a mediocre program to an upper echelon program. It starts in your backyard, and then once you lock that down and win a little, then you go pluck guys from other parts of the country.
Pitt gets some of them, but they can’t consistently get the top talent from Pittsburgh.
Interesting indeed.
trool dont talk to dan that way he is one of the best posters on here.
After all, this is college we’re talking about!!!!!!!
…do we really want a kid that had everyone thinking he was going to Pitt and then picked Bama…I don’t know the kid and never met him but he sounds like a lot more trouble than he is worth right now.
Some people posting needs to cool it on the personal attacks.. I know today was suppose to be the end of the world but Foster going to Bama is not the reason for the end to start..(I don’t think the Mayans only watched Pro Football) ..If Pitt is going to rise to top it will take different type of player than Foster.
Something doesn’t hang together here.
Still, the young man made his choice and I hope he makes the most of it.
I don’t think that was the point. Pitt is the better academic institution. But the kid needs to be able to pass in order to play. I guess Alabama has better tutors.
and for your info 2 days ago i posted that some people on different posts thought boyd was better and foster had not made his pick yet.
so bug off get off are post till you know how to behave like a gentlemen.
I did notice we have verbals from 4 tight ends and JP Holtz looked pretty good. Who knows, maybe Boyd will come. He could start as a freshmen and has better grades, won’t have to go to prep school as rumored with Foster.
NCAA would love to hear how you got those seats.
We’re just having some fun with a WVU troll, or a 12 or 13 year old that just got home from school and got on Mom’s computer!!! LOL
Personally myself, I have 50-60 employees that I have to watch and make sure that they don’t overdue it here this afternoon at our company Christmas party.
An 18 year old making a college decision?? As Hyman Roth would say about the Rosato brothers, “small potato’s”!!
Quite pathetic. Every story starts with, “hey, I was one of Jimmy Boys coaches you know”.
20 years later, they have nothing else, and every story still starts with “hey, I was that Jimmy Boys coach”.
Hey, when I was at Pitt, I played in a couple pick up basketball games with Dan Marino.
You guys impressed now???? LOL
I said I could care less about his pick, he didn’t pick us, time for us to move on.
Seems like you’re the one who is infatuated with this kid.
I’m thinkin’ a restraining order may be called for pal!!!
Of course, us Pitt Faithful have much more sophistication than to utter such moronic comments Wd.
So in parting, my I suggest that you simply consume feces, you rectal orifice. LOL
BTW, lets all quit whining. I seem to remember that we reeled in a top RB named Shell just a few months ago. As I mentioned earlier, NEXT!!!!
Second of all, my comment was, that there are some more important things in life, like making sure everyone gets home safely and does not get drunk at the company Christmas party, than where an 18 year old decides to go to college.
Our company has nothing to do with Pitt, or Pitt recruiting or anything in sports.
Allthough, now that you brought up money, and recruiting, and Foster, and Alabama……………..what exactly are you saying?????
You’ve taken all the baiting!!! LOL
Now, you try to act like you have us ruffled.
Nice try, not gonna work here with this crowd.
You’re some guy still living his high school fantasy’s through an 18 year old who will never even remember your name a year from now.
We all know them. They’re at every high school football and basketball game.
Let me guess, you wear a baseball cap with your high schools letters on it around town???
Am I right?? Ya, of course I am.
We all know you!!! LOL
nyuck, nyuck, nyuck
no one who loves pitt talks like you do get off are post
and if you read my posts from to day i never put foster down
the only one i put down was you for acting like a ass go back to WVU.
and leave us in peace chas can ban you if you
keep being a ass so get lost or grow up.
Wd, you need help. Good luck over the holidays.
By the way, when you took him out the water bottle, did he really prefer water, or did you serve him gatorade???
You obviously got a “N” for works well with others in 1st grade. You were never able make the JV teams and were left by the phone on prom night.
You still maintain a nice one bedroom apartment in your Mom’s basement. You are obsessed with message boards because it is the only place people will talk to you…….
It is time for you to go, your mommy is calling you for dinner!
BTW, I hope your Bama butt buddies lose to ND.
Best wishes to Robert Foster. I hope you do well, but it would have been nice to have you in PITT blue and gold.
Your Alabama degree has served you well! You have no life, are still living at home and having exotic dreams about Alabama football players.
I used to like bama till you.
Go ND beat bama!
“On Wednesday Robert Foster texted his family and said he was going to #Pitt. On Friday he changed his mind and committed to #Alabama.”
Bob Lichtenfels of 247Sports.com corroborated with this from his own Twitter account:
“Mark Lyons (CV coach) said as of last night Robert Foster was going to Pitt, changed his mind this morning.”
Anyway….I had been thinking that Pitt would get either Foster or Boyd and not both. I believe that Boyd was waiting to see what Foster would do.
That being said, I feel that Boyd will chose Pitt now and be the the man at WR….not the #2 choice of the QB.
Overwhelming sentiment from Pitt fans both here and on Twitter seems to be disappointed but congratulatory towards Foster.
Sorry to say that ‘Bama fans haven’t acted quite the same. Lots of cocky arrogance. Shame on you, ‘Bama fans. You’re a good program that should be well above rubbing something like this in the face of a program on a much different level than yours right now.
I don’t wish Robert Foster any ill will, but I think after he signs on the dotted line he’ll realize the honeymoon is over.
and as far as calling me a genius you ment it as a put down but my IQ is 127 nationl averge is 90
what is yours 80.
genius starts at what 135 i am not sure but i think so.
now go back to WVU.
If you’re willing to discuss Boyd vs. Foster like an adult, I’ll offer this much:
They’re two different players. Foster is a bit more of a conventional deep-threat receiver. He runs excellent deep routes. He has very good hands. He’s 6’2″, 180-190 and he can jump, so he can go up and get the ball. He’s not quite as strong getting underneath or sitting down in the zone as he is on deep routes. That’s not to say he’s bad at it; Foster is a terrific route runner. He’s just better stretching the field.
Boyd is a little bit smaller – 6’1″, 175-180. He’s probably not as polished a receiver as Foster, but he’s probably a little bit quicker or more agile. He’s also incredible after the catch. It’s probably not a stretch to say Boyd may be more of a threat as a game-breaker from anywhere on the field as compared to Foster.
That is one of the headlines on Yahoo Sports. If Foster changed his mind over night based on what he may have had for breakfast then if Saban leaves for the NFL before LOI day, we may have Foster back here. Regardless, we all wish him well and who knows if he eats something strange again on LOI day?
if chryst just keeps thoes big line men comeing.
we will be ok.
to bad you werent here in time to take on the troll and put him in his place.
Would have been sweet to get him, but as I said last night, I think Dorian Johnson was the most important commit. No idea what Boyd will do. I wonder if any other receivers that Pitt is still pursuing?
Hard to select Pitt when you don’t have a proven QB to sell to receivers. Let’s hope that next year we will have a quality QB. Thank GOD that the O line is coming along. Rushel Shell should have a monster of a year so the “pitch and catch” might not be such a necessity.
As for the kids decision… Alabama can be a tough place for a kids from Western PA. The culture in Alabama can take a little time to adjust too if your not use to things.
Frankcan, you’re right as long as Chryst keeps bringing the big guys up front, we’ll be fine.
66Goat, good one!
There was not one mention about Foster — guess these Bama fans are used to get what they want, and Foster is just one of the several 4/5 stars in the fold.
There was, however, much Nick Saban leaving talk.
Oh it’s too bad the kid picked Bama. He would have been a superstar at Pitt more than likely, who knows at Bama. I remember that hotshot 5 star RB from North Hills HS when Walt was Coach who went to Miami and was heard from again.
Bama has not produced ANY Larry Fitgeralds or Antonio Bryants !
I had a hunch he wasn’t going with us, as PiTT was making too many late offers. And I hope this didn’t letdown too many ppl. The local media loves to build things up for a big letdown for Pitt ppl.
Walt as Coach who went to Miami and Never was heard from again.
This kid decommitted with the kid from Penn Hills who was a QB flop at Pedo State.
Comment by Joe Bull 12.21.12 @ 3:17 pm
Word is he might have to go the Prep School Route.
Knowing that this was all an ego thing for the kid.
After scanning over the comments, I can see the blog really got trolled today. lol
If Alabama is like South Carolina(USC) they put alot of money into a Athletic Academic Resouce Center. USC’s cost over 20 million. Three stories, full of computer’s, small rooms for tutoring, plenty of tutors, a cafeteria, etc. Supposedly helped get Lattimore & Clowney to commit.Parent’s were thrilled to see that their son’s had access to help so that their academic side was not ignored.
Pitt should have one but is it state of the art? That’s what all the SEC dollars are being poured into besides football.
But hey, you play in big games you win some you lose some.
We lost out on LeSean McCoy to Miami on the first go round. Shady then went to Prep School and Pitt won out in Round 2.
So anything can happen. That teenage troll can still eat Pitt’s shit
treat the wvulgar trolls as you would dog droppings. Smell them from a distance:Recognize them for what they are and don’t get any on your shoes.
Besides, CALU will start outrecruiting them soon as Holgersen will get fired or leave on his own within 3 years.
Good luck to Foster. Hail to Pitt.
The easier route is always going with a team or program on top atm. It takes a special kid who wants to be part of rebuilding or building a program into a national power again. Again a leader not a follower. Which is why Pitt has had so many NFL greats & players. They have something else, that certain something.
And maybe you too will be added to Pitt’s 8 NFL Hall of Famers.
but we need a WR this year at least one more
And we need a rb to replace clement .
and of course we need some more big ol men
and dl men.
you know there is more deph at wr then at rb
we really need that rb.
we only have 4 rb next year.
As good people said above, once Chryst starts building something in 1-2 yrs this will change…
Hey, here is one wishful thinking scenario…
… now we get Boyd because he will be the star and doesn’t have to compete against Foster…
… then Sabin leaves for an NFL offer in the off season and Foster changes his mind back to Pitt…
lol…
… OK, it’s Christmas so one can hope…
Hey, Pitt is getting the type of recruits it needs to become a nationally relevant program again (linemen, loaded with QB and RB prospects) and look at the strategy with the redshirts this year…
Pitt should compete well in its first year in the ACC, be relevant at the top of the league and go to a good mid/top tier bowl next year.
This year really didn’t count and how many years does a good coach needs to turn around a troubled program??
BTW, academic help means that some girl will be doing Foster’s homework and taking his tests. Also he’ll be getting a free convertible to drive to his classes.
he did not come to pitt was he did not want to be the man.
he just wanted to be another recruit and bama has so many good players he will get his wish.
new pitt offers i think not sure if i posted these before.
WR CORY COOPER 6 FOOT 190 POUNDS NC
WR MALIQUE BELFORT NY 6 FOOT 4 170 POUNDS.
The other 4-5 star Pitt lean for walt that went elsewhere, was A Morelli. Another mistake. He left a solid qb coach and went to qb hell at State Penn.
With regard to Foster, he is obviously still conflicted as evidenced in the video. I am convinced that he put himself in a bind with an announcement date and was forced to choose before he got the facts straight.I think that Pitt may get some reverse mojo back from the two metioned above come LOI day.
If he is intent on doing things for his high school, he should have stayed local, where his student body could support him! If it was about academics, he can’t do much better than Pitt. Remember, Pitt is in the top 100 universities in the WORLD!!! Alabama does not enjoy such academic stature. I think once the dust settles, we still have a shot at him.
AS for Boyd, same thing. These kids are good enough to go anywhere, but when you need to manufacture reasons as to why you need to go, it is clear that you have been sold. Some kids like to get away from family and friends and thrive in that scenario. But for those that need support, you need to stay. I am happy with both, with either, or with none. I want kids in the program that want to be here and I think PC is nurturing that mentality. I would encourage PC to adopt the DW approach on these things. If you give me your word and break it, you can’t come back. Northerners are never accepted into the southern circle. They are still fighting the war, believe it or not. For anyone that has gone through that, you have to agree. It’s an impossible fit. I wish him well.
I bet I could beat you in the game of Clue, lol
And I could checkmate in you in 6 moves or less in Chess.
Now go back to the wvcc or nitter blog and be a big man.
However on Alabama.com, it’s warranted almost as many comments as the NRA’s stmt today.
http://www.al.com/alabamafootball/index.ssf/2012/12/five-star_receiver_robert_fost.html
That’s saying something.
Hail to Pitt !
Veritas et Virtus !
Death to all Trolls !
For some/most area hs kids it behooves them to go to Pitt, it’s the natural order of things.
When you screw with the natural order of things, like Johnson & Morelli did, it generally doesn’t turn out good for all those involved.
Pitt & Pittsburgh……Someplace Special !!
The World did not end.
Frickin Mayans, Jokesters.
The fact that a speial talent like Robert Foster had his choice down to Alabama and Pitt is testimony to Chryst and his assistants doing something right.
It didn’t have to be Pitt. Ohio State would have been just as suitable for a hometown choice option. And despite anything you might hear don’t think for a second that Urban Meyer would not have been glad to be in that position.
As I stated, months and months ago, long before the season began… Foster should have never been looked at as a “must have” by the Pitt staff. He was always a REACH given his obvious talent.
But, given the unexpected trials and tribulations of the first year of the Chryst tenure at Pitt, the mere fact that Foster looks to be seriously torn in his decision… can not be looked at as anything else but a positive sign for the Pitt recruiting successes yet to come.
Now, the responsibility falls squarely on the shoulder of Chryst and his staff. It’s up to them to simply start deliving delivering the kind of wins I and other ardent supporters believe possible.
At that point, in the new Mayan era… we can celebrate in the next Robert Foster choosing Pitt and in doing so see him shedding tears of joys rather than sadness.
I can’t think of a better place than Northern Ohio to play a liesurely 18, especially in November through March.
Saben to San Diego where Norv Turner will soon be given the back door makes more sense.
Saban’s leaving Bama is certainly not a sure thing by any means, but what part of Saban’s past suggests that he will stay as a long term coach anywhere?
Apparently, God is not a Pitt fan … as if we already didn’t know that.
http://triblive.com/sports/kevingorman/3160338-74/foster-alabama-pitt#axzz2FkGY0WqJ
But with Revis and Fitzgerald hopefully getting into the NFL Hall of Fame, Pitt has more than its share of great athletes.
You were trying to take a shot at Pitt only having 35K fans at games. Yep, can’t argue that.
The ” ” use however, questions the actual fans.
That would be totally wrong.
Pitt fans are as rabid and loyal as any other fans in the country, including Alabama, LSU, Texas.
No, we don’t have as many, not nearly as many.
There are however, Pitt die hards, that bleed blue and gold every bit as much as LSU fans bleed purple and gold.
Nope, don’t have 95K on a Saturday night, but the 20-30K die hards that are there for every game take a back seat to no one.
Now, before you jump back at me.
READ what I am saying. No, we don’t have good attendance, that is not an argument, agreed.
I’m talking about the people, that are Pitt fans, whether it be 5K or 20K, are into college football just as much as anyone else around the country.
Hence, your ” ” around fans, was misused.
i’m quite familiar w/ pitt fans. i’ve been going to pitt games for 35+ years, am a panther club member and have had my season tix for 15 years(i’m 42). my seats are on the 40 yd line in the lower bowl. at least twice a season some old fuck yinzer tells me to sit down when i stand up to cheer the defense on a critical 3rd down. those are the “fans” i’m referring to.
@emel, you’re a loud mouth jerk. btw, disagreeing with you doesn’t automatically make me a less intelligent troll.
The world didn’t end.
Tom Brady was a 6th round draft pick.
Where is Jason Gwaltney now?

Hope he cuts his hair.

Sorry guys, gotta give Scott a shout out when he exposes an issue that is legitimate IMO.
thanks.

Somehow this doesn’t sound like a Pitt fan that claims to have gone to games for 35+ years.
We don’t play MAC teams that often. And we haven’t entered the ACC as of yet.
I’m not a yinzer, but I’d tell ya to sit ur ass down as well. Just because !
I’m really tired about this SEC non-sense. Yes they have good players, just like every other conference. If they’re so great why did Syracuse beat Missouri at Mizzou and Rutgers beat Arkansas at Ark ?
I seem to remember Pitt doing pretty well against SEC teams when we played them in Bowl Games.
1976 Sugar Bowl PITT 27 Georgia (SEC champion) 3
1980 Gator Bowl PITT 37 South Carolina 9
1981 Sugar Bowl PITT 27 Georgia (SEC Champs) 20
1989 Sun Bowl PITT 31 Texas A&M 28
2010 Compass Bowl PITT 27 Kentucky 10
F*ck the SEC !
my grandfather was a golden panther, my dad played baseball at pitt for bobby lewis, was team captain in 1962. i’ll put my pitt fan creds up against anyone.
final point: your opinion is your opinion, nothing more and nothng less. and certainly not more informed or credible than mine or dozens of others who comment on this blog. so drop the holier than thou attitude. kudos to foster for wanting to get as far away from asshole losers like you.
