Recruiting Waiting Day

A couple potential additions to the 2016 class are announcing today.

Henry Miller will be announcing sometime around 7pm on Twitter his decision. Miller is a cornerback out of Florida. Measurables (being what they are worth) have him as a 6-3, 193 pound player. A 3-star recruit by all sites.

He’s reportedly down to Pitt and NC State (thankfully it is Dave Doeren recruiting him and not Mark Gottfried).

Both sides have been hard to close on him.

[Gateway (Fla.) High School coach Marlin] Roberts said Miller has been timed in 4.47 seconds in the 40-yard dash and is a sprinter on the track team. He played basketball, but gave it up this season to concentrate on his recruitment.

Roberts said N.C. State has been on Miller “pretty hard.” In fact, one of its coaches called Roberts immediately before I did Wednesday morning. Meanwhile, Pitt tight ends coach Tim Salem “comes down here all the time,” Roberts said.

Miller also has drawn offers from Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Oregon State, Rutgers, West Virginia and Wisconsin. Strangely, none of the Florida schools have offered. Florida had interest, “but they weren’t on him as much as Pitt,” Roberts said.

Tim Salem has been a workhorse on the recruiting trail for Pitt. He got scapegoated in his last job with regards to not being good enough at recruiting by now infamous ex-Illinois head coach Tim Beckman. But he’s been active and everywhere for Pitt.

But the big one is at 2pm. George Hill is a 4-star running back out of Ohio. He was once an Ohio State verbal but reversed field on that. Now the final three are Michigan State, Pitt and Wisconsin. Most have been seeing him pick MSU, in no small part because of his friendship with MSU freshman running back L.J. Scott. The two were high school teammates as well.

Still, this tweet yesterday from Coach Narduzzi…

Having fun? Optimism? Knows something the rest of us don’t?

dhuff… now that’s funny.

Continuing my high school date “anticipation” analogy, this is about when I am really hoping that I can at least get her bra off.

Pitt has landed Ohio State de-commit George Hill, a 4-star athlete than can play RB, WR, and S. He chose Pitt over Michigan St & Wisconsin.

Comment by pd 12.18.15 @ 2:08 pm

per Dokish, both Hill and Miller are coming to Pitt

Comment by wbb 12.18.15 @ 2:09 pm

Great news today. Thought Miller would come here but I thought Hill would end up at MSU as that was the tea leaves at that time.

Today is a good day.

Now, if we can close Hudson and Hamlin.

6’3″ Florida CB Henry Miller also commits to Pitt. Both Miller and Hill are big time players and big time athletes.

New sheriff in town. Winfree and Alexander on deck make it happen.

Miles who?

Comment by PittofDreams 12.18.15 @ 2:13 pm

He who hesitates may lose in the end. Not much room left at the table for Pa Boys not yet committed.

Miracle on Hot Metal Street

Comment by wbb 12.18.15 @ 2:15 pm

The locals aren’t losing, they will be fine. That said, this is a statement in that Narduzzi will not wait around and hopes he has a chance at the end. You either get on board with him or you don’t. No harm with this.

If he is smart, he turns around and says we have our allotment of rb’s and we still have room for one more db and a wr. That takes all the pressure off of Sanders and makes him look better. WR comes down to two. Whoever picks Pitt first wins.Hopefully Clairton WR. Same with db’s. One spot left and two solid choices left on the board. I do like Miller as a LB in two years.

Comment by dhuffdaddy 12.18.15 @ 2:24 pm

Hiil announced. We is a Panther.

Comment by Old Pitt Grad 12.18.15 @ 2:27 pm

Room at the table is definitely getting smaller. My guess is that either Winfree or Mathews gets a spot, but I don’t think both will. They will always have room for Hamlin, no matter what. Hopefully Dokish is right and he does end up a Pitt commit. In Hill they got the playmaker they needed as a breakaway back. In Miller a tall CB to cover all those big ACC wideouts. Great gets on both of these guys. Heard there was a good chance with the TE Haskins out of NJ. TE is a spot they could use and it then really shrinks the number of openings. Will be interesting to see how the last few spots are filled and how big this class is. Right now, I love this class and if Hamlin does come our way, I’d say we hit a HR this year and next year can be even better.

A win in the bowl game may open the recruiting flood gates!

Comment by Pittastic 12.18.15 @ 2:32 pm

Some of those locals may be losing if they wanted to get some extensive playing time next season. As it has been posted many times on this board, Pitt has some good talent but not a lot of depth at many positions.

Comment by jrnpitt 12.18.15 @ 2:34 pm

HCPN lets no grass grow under him. H2P

Comment by Frank MD 12.18.15 @ 2:45 pm

We have a real future as a team to be taken seriously. NO more SOP!!!!!

#412 recruits hop on the train very soon because it is about to leave the station.

Next month visit list as of now… Camp, Watts, Washington, Mathews, Anderson.

Comment by pd 12.18.15 @ 3:02 pm

Also Morris and Reynolds said they would like to visit, don’t know about Miller.

Comment by pd 12.18.15 @ 3:09 pm

Guess they are looking at Hill as a cornerback and may have a chance to play on both sides of the ball.

Comment by Mailman 12.18.15 @ 3:53 pm

Can we all at least agree now that Narduzzi & Co. are doing a great job in recruiting?

Comment by Dr. Tom 12.18.15 @ 4:48 pm

Coach Tim Salem tweets at 3:55, “this Pitt day might not be over”. REALLY!?
