2-2 Today

Henry Miller in Florida was supposed to announce his decision at 7 pm tonight. George Hill in Ohio was going to be at 2 pm. Instead, both made it known at about the same time.

George Hill did it with an announcement at his school.

Good times. Good day.

This latent better be good. I’m watching Pa football championship game, and Imhotep’s tight end, a Florida State recruit looks like a runaway freight train.

His destiny lies with the Light. Panther Nation is the Light he seeks.

Comment by TX Panther 12.18.15 @ 9:58 pm

alcofan – I watched the AAA final too. The Imotep team would match up well against some college teams.

Comment by dinosaur 71 12.18.15 @ 10:08 pm

I believe that QB recruit Thomas MacVittie has been raised up to 4**** by 247.

MacVittie has been nothing short of sensational this year playing against solid competition.

Comment by isnore 12.18.15 @ 10:08 pm

Alexander re-opened his recruitment. Credit to Mike Vuk for killing it again.

Comment by pd 12.18.15 @ 10:08 pm

Funny thing a was reading a story the writer basically said Nebraska should not be concerned, you know cause its Pitt. Guess again.

Comment by pd 12.18.15 @ 10:12 pm

Welcome to the Pitt family George Hill and Henry Miller. We’re glad you committed to the great University of Pittsburgh.

It appears we may only have two spots left to fill with this class unless more transfers happen or next year’s RS Sr’s are asked to move on with their life’s work.

I predict D.Hamlin and J.Winfree will fill those final two slots. Playing time is available to both right away in 2016 and they both know it. The same cannot be said at nd and tOSU. HCPN will also find a way to fit one of the DT’s into this class if he can –

Beat Navy.

HTP!

Comment by Erie Express 12.18.15 @ 10:14 pm

pd, you talking about this guy?

Comment by Jackagain 12.18.15 @ 10:21 pm

Yeah, Alexander is the guy, the reporter was a 247 beat writer. Quayshon is a flat out stud. DE/OLB and flies to the QB.

Comment by pd 12.18.15 @ 10:27 pm

Talk about guys that fit the Rob Harley run and hit model. Watch tape of Alexander, Campbell, Miller, Hill, and Paris Forde. Pitt has never had this kind of speed and hitting ability.

Comment by pd 12.18.15 @ 10:37 pm

Where’s the article linking him to Pitt? Or do you have inside info?

Comment by Jackagain 12.18.15 @ 10:38 pm

I see he’s the #1 OLB out of New Jersey. Looks like he was here last weekend….and he sites early playing time as a reason to come here and that Pitt is winning more now.

link to scout.com

Don’t think that 9 wins won’t mean a thing to these recruits. A rush edge LB is a REAL area of need here.

Comment by Jackagain 12.18.15 @ 10:47 pm

Jack he was just here on a visit. De-committed from Nebraska, per Mike Vuk. Pitt has been on him a long time, I think back to Chryst.

Comment by pd 12.18.15 @ 10:51 pm

@eerie. We’re taking more than two more guys,

Comment by Bj 12.18.15 @ 10:55 pm

Could be taking a full class.

Comment by pd 12.18.15 @ 10:59 pm

Great day to be a Pitt Fan. Narduzzi keeps proving himself over and over. Certainly not a straight line but I love the direction of this trend.

Comment by gc 12.18.15 @ 11:04 pm

I think we are all getting real—–ly proud of our University.

Comment by Old Pitt Grad 12.18.15 @ 11:07 pm

Tim salem said at about 3 that the day wasn’t over for the 412crew, but doesn’t look like anything interesting will happen

Comment by pittpanther01 12.18.15 @ 11:14 pm

Welcome George Hill and Henry Miller to the home of Dorsett, Green, Marino, Fitzgerald and Coach Narduzzi. Don’t know when you will start or where you will be on the field, but you will be on OUR side of the field.

Comment by Tony in Hampton 12.18.15 @ 11:28 pm

If Walt Harris and Stevey P could get 50,000+ at every home game except 1 in 2003 including three games of 60,000+ and 2 sellouts, I’m pretty sure attendance concerns and the tarp monster are going to be moot in a couple-three years.

Comment by deepelemblues 12.19.15 @ 3:06 am

Pitt’s class up to #37 on Scout and # 41 on Rivals. A few more recruits should put us in the top 25. Go getum Narddog.

Comment by Chick 12.19.15 @ 4:31 am

Its a Festivus for the rest of us!

Comment by Moe Greene 12.19.15 @ 6:14 am

If there were any doubts about whether this staff could recruit, they should be dwindling after yesterday. WOW!

I was busy at work, fought the holiday traffic on my ride home listening to talk radio and hearing how our Federal gov’t passed an outrageous spending bill that will also allow 300,000 Syrian refugees into the U.S. in 2016.

The Pitt recruiting news was refreshing to receive when I got home last evening. After a good night’s sleep, I’m ready to celebrate Christmas, defeat ISIS(L), balance the Federal budget and build a fence around our boarders.

Instead, I’ll celebrate Christmas, prepare my business for 2016 (and beyond) and plan my trip to Annapolis to watch Pitt defeat #21 Navy.

It’s beginning to look a lot like 1973, everywhere you go.

Comment by Erie Express 12.19.15 @ 6:19 am

Pitt needs all the DBs they can get. Keep it going.

Comment by notrocketscience 12.19.15 @ 7:51 am

Woke up about a hour and a half ago and happy to discover it wasn’t a dream. It did happen.

Yes, we’re not in the Top 25 but a lot of high end talent fusing with many returnees from an 8 or 9 win team, including ACC offensive and defensive newcomers of the year, provides us much to look forward to.

Comment by wbb 12.19.15 @ 7:55 am

How cool would it be if JD could up his recruiting game to match PN.
H2P! Beat Davidson and Navy!

Comment by TVax 12.19.15 @ 7:58 am

JD may have lucked out with a big man. 6’8 Mannegault, who already signed his LOI, has reportedly become a double-double machine and versus good competition.

He and Damon Wilson are a start … but of course need a few more

Comment by TVax 12.19.15 @ 8:24 am

Lucked out? Whatever. Dixon and staff found that talent and recognized it before everyone else. Just like PN discovered McVittie and Ffrench before they blew up. Pitt basketball has never been based on rankings so applying it now is dumb. In fact, the better Pitt has recruited the worst they got.

The Blair years were built the same way fellas. Blair, Sam Young, Fields, Biggs … all 50-100 talent.

Jaime’s going back to his roots and the program will be fine. Unlike college football there are a lot less good teams in college basketball. Once you get outside the top 8 there is a ton of parity.

Comment by Tossing Thabeets 12.19.15 @ 8:36 am

After turning down BYU has Navy’s coach been talked about anywhere else? There is still a ton of openings.

Comment by John 12.19.15 @ 9:11 am

Tossing, I agree somewhat … but after the large build-ups of big men Dante Taylor, Khem Birch, and the two transfers on last year’s squad (can’t even remember their names) in the last few years, the big man recruits have been nothing but disappointments. Heck, we even had a very raw Steven Adams who left without warning after we were pretty much assured that he was staying at least another year.

Further, we have been advised that Diallo, Swanigan and a few others were a big possibility; thus, I cannot help believe that a 3-star PF who was never mentioned in company of all of the aforementioned actually enrolls here and proves to be better than first thought … then we can count our blessings.

Comment by wbb 12.19.15 @ 9:12 am

I’m not ‘on the fence’. I’m just not as super excited about these developments as obviously others are. I like these latest verbals and I especially think Pugh, Pine, Hill and Flowers can be real players for us. The rest of the class I feel the same way as I do about every class’ 2* and 3* kids – we’ll find out later on.

My less than screaming joy isn’t based on anything Narduzzi and staff is or isn’t doing – it is really my natural ambivalence to all recruiting classes until they prove their worth on the field.

Of all aspects of college football recruiting is head and shoulders filled with more variables and risks than any other aspect of the game.

Comment by Reed 12.19.15 @ 9:34 am

@Reed, you have developed the inclination to walk over and piss on the campfire buddy….

…time and place, yeah know….

…right now we are still gather around it eating our marshmallows and drinking Koolaid…

Comment by Pittscript 12.19.15 @ 9:48 am

Reed, I approach recruiting with tempered enthusiasm. It’s easy to get carried away, but you’re right that it doesn’t mean much until they suit up.

That said, it is the lifeblood of college football; you have to acknowledge the importance of the process, if not the individual players.

George Hill may never wear a Pitt uniform. But anticipating that he might – and in glorious fashion – is fun. Hope…is fun.

Comment by Iron Duke 12.19.15 @ 9:58 am

I concur with the tempered approach … heck, Pat Bostick, Shane Hale, Desean Rippy and Travon Chapman were 4 stars. Nonetheless, with the on-the-field success, increased attendance and administrative commitment, it’s hard not to believe that good times are ahead in the near future.

Comment by wbb 12.19.15 @ 10:22 am

I’m with Reed on the recruiting news…It is nice to see in the news, but Hard to get too worked up about it until we see these players in a Pitt uniform…On the BB recruiting front, HCJD is personally recruiting the center position very hard.

Comment by HbgFrank 12.19.15 @ 10:45 am

Recruiting is the lifeblood of any college football program.

Head coaches top three jobs……..

1. Recruit
2. Recruit
3. Recruit

Comment by Dan 12.19.15 @ 10:54 am

Reed: good way to think. Wait till they get on UOR field with OUR guys. Then evaluate their skill level. Wish I could do that – but I can’t!

What?t gets me is the guys who take that road – until they see that the only schools that were offering one of our guys were MAC and/or less. Then those “wait n see” guys come out of the wood work and blast the selection. I like your consistency!

I’m excited about this staff’s enthusiasm and never-say-die approach to their recruiting. I really believe we are starting to see the future of HCPN’s recruiting abilities. I’m not at all surprised, as I have always believed there is no way he could have been as successful as he was at MSU if he wasn’t able to get the studs he thought could benefit his system.

I’m not so concerned with stars or national recruiting ranking. I’m most concerned that the staff is getting the players they really want\need to put their best product on the field week in and week out. Having seen now for a year the make up of this staff, I completely trust their judgement. It is hard for me to contain my joy as I see things unfold. I plan on remaining optimistic until such time as play on the field gives me reason to slump back into my 60’s and 90’s shell!!

Pat Narduzzi is driving the bus. I willingly got aboard, happily paid my emotional fare, and am riding where ever he takes me! Personally, I think it’s going to be a helluva ride! And I’m going to enjoy every minute of it I can!!!

Comment by Savannah Panther 12.19.15 @ 10:56 am

Looks like the Duzz is bringing in another QB(juco). Rossi from Cali. my guess Chad is packing his bags.

Comment by pd 12.19.15 @ 11:48 am

I think tempered enthusiasm is like almost pregnant. Every recruiting class for every team is viewed the same way. The stars mean they run fast, our built ready for action and have performed well against inferior competition in high school. They are the best of their peers….in high school.

The unanswered question for each of them is whether that transfers to the college level. For some it does and for others it doesn’t. The critical point is the college coaches as talent evaluators. This is where I think Narduzzi is strong. It is early in the sample size, but I think he gets football players first and good kids, second.

The main difference in my opinion between this class and prior Chryst classes is that our current verbals don’t show offers from Harvard and Yale for the most parts. They have Power 5 offers and some are significant. Is that a precursor to off the field issues, we just don’t have the sample size yet, but these kids seem grounded, at least to me. Time will tell.

Welcome to George Hill and Henry Miller! We are happy to have you!

I am going cold on Winfree for one reason only. Decisioning. He has Colorado in his final three. If football is most important in your life, Colorado is not the place for you.

Let’s go hunt!

Comment by dhuffdaddy 12.19.15 @ 11:56 am

He has had Colorado in his top for a while. If there was a OC in place he probably would have committed. Morris is supposed to visit next month so there is that option.

Comment by pd 12.19.15 @ 12:14 pm

i really feel sorry for those who can’t or won’t allow themselves to get excited at good news for Pitt. this program has suffered for so long, one would think any bit of good news should be exciting. live in the moment, enjoy the moment!

Comment by goalie44 12.19.15 @ 12:25 pm

We’re Pitt fans not analyst. You are ALLOWED to get excited before you see the results and fruits of their efforts. In fact, you should get excited. Pitt football needs positivity. The wait and see approach is such a cop out and momentum suck. What fun is it to continually say “that’s nice, but …”.

Come on. Go all in. Have fun. It’s the first time in a long time that Pitt fans have been able to get excited over something the football team does.

The team is taking on the personality of the coach. The fans should too … and more of us are. You hold outs are missing out. The tempered excitement is for SOP.

In order to get results on the field, you need recruiting buzz. Pitt has it. Right now. And the 2017 class is looking better than this class.

It’s about momentum and buzz and energy. All three of those were never mentioned with Chryst. Not once. Ever.

That’s the difference.

And Reed, you really should check out Ffrench. Unranked to 3 star with the results of a 4 star.

Comment by Tossing Thabeets 12.19.15 @ 12:51 pm

Nice, Tossing. The bus is loaded! It’s going to be a helluva ride!!!

Comment by Savannah Panther 12.19.15 @ 1:44 pm

It’s just nice to see us taking recruits from Ohio State Michigan State and Wisconsin rather than Ball State and Toledo.

Comment by Chick 12.19.15 @ 3:26 pm

Why I think recruiting numbers matter is because getting high ranking players lures other highly ranked players to sign in a lot of cases. Especially to a program like ours in the beginning of a re-building process.

Pitt needs all the positive energy it can get…

Comment by Jackagain 12.19.15 @ 3:35 pm

Wake me up when they have 4 stars.

Comment by Upittbaseball 12.19.15 @ 6:41 pm

Other than Hill who makes me estatic but the fact is as a Floridian and previously an Ohio State Committ he probably will change again before making a decision to stay in South.

Comment by Upittbaseball 12.19.15 @ 6:43 pm

Stay asleep UPitt – Get your facts straight – Hill is from Ohio. BTW – Boyd (who u don’t like) was 3rd team all- American – NTB for fir a kid who can’t run iota catch.!

Where are u sitting in Annapolis?

Comment by markp 12.19.15 @ 6:52 pm

Tossing, the best Pitt team in recent years had four 4-stars in the starting lineup and at least 2 on the bench. The fifth starter was a top-10 JUCO transfer.

Comment by marcus of schaumburg 12.19.15 @ 8:05 pm

Hey guys. This just in. Hill and Miller are on the fence about the Pitt fan base. They hear only 30,000 show up compared to the 65,000+ at the other schools they were considering. And half leave before the 4th quarter at that. Plus they hear that a lot of Pitt fans takes a wait and see attitude instead of just getting excited about commitments like the ones they just made. So while George and Henry are excited about playng football at Pitt, they will withold judgment about Pitt fans until they’re here. But they hope the fans support the team because they sure would like to play for folks that appreciate them. Oh one more thing, enjoy the moment and the trajectory because that’s what we have!! Beat Navy!! Beat Davidson!!

Comment by Sam_in_215 12.19.15 @ 8:47 pm

Markp – Boyd is overrated. Wish him the best but I say 4-5 round. Going to visit family for Holiday not going to game.
Meant Ohio on Hill and Miller may stick but only a 3 star. Hill will probably change his mind again for the 2nd time.

Comment by Upittbaseball 12.20.15 @ 1:20 am

I thought somebody on here, okay a bunch of people on here said that a florida 3 star is like a wpa 4 star. Call me crazy!

Welcome aboard fellas. The ride will be awesome and your personal journey is what you make of it. Wanna play at the next level, duzzi will lead you there. Keep your nose clean and your mind sharp. I like how this class is coming together.
