Jared Shanker of ESPN reported that Chandler Kincade has decommitted. There are a lot of variables here, notably Paul Chyrst’s nephew, Keller. This could mean one of several things. Most likely, either Kincade has soured on Pitt for one reason or another (like our pursuit of Keller) or the coaches informed Kincade it would be wise for him to look elsewhere because of Keller. All I will say at this point is don’t jump to conclusions. A lot of things happen behind the scenes and recruiting is a goal, not a journey. Commits fall off all of the time, especially early ones. Let’s allow things to settle and then we’ll know more.

Chris Peak has confirmed it as well,  so it’s safe to say with two separate reports, this is true. This development shouldn’t surprise many since Kincade has looked elsewhere and he was originally a Graham verbal who stuck with his commitment after Paul Chryst took over.

steve1 he found out jordan is keeping macon that is the point.
and i read carter does not want to come to pitt
has no interest in pitt.
so another one bites the dust.

Comment by FRANKCAN 04.21.13 @ 10:40 am

Chryst has done three things that tell me he knows what he is doing…moving Clemmings to offensive tackle was a risky move for someone so late in their career but it was absolutely the right move. Clemmings is big, strong, and tough but he was too slow for defensive end. He was out of position. Same for Eric Williams…. too small for linebacker but fast enough and big enough for safety. Chryst also finds the right position for the talented but wasted Anthony Gonzalez. The man knows what he is doing.

@Reed
What exactly is wrong with catching 40 winks from time to time?
Walt probably needed a nap from time to time.
I know I need more sleep.

Comment by SFPitt 04.21.13 @ 12:25 pm

upittbaseball, you are from Jupiter, I’m from Mercury …. I think those WVU unis are awful.

Steve5bill, Walt moved Charles Spencer going into his junior year from DL to OL. Spencer played 4 or 5 years in NFL.

Wanny also moved Malecki and Pinkston from DL to OL. Both are still in NFL.
There are probably more examples.

Comment by wbb 04.21.13 @ 1:37 pm

Dr. Tom… good elaboration regarding the O-line. I’ll go one more. Despite the glowing scouting reports and the immense expectations, Dorian Johnson might find himself having more difficulty than he expected cracking the starting lineup his freshman year.

The main reason Johnson might have that problem is Clemmings and… Steve5bill… excellent reasoning as to why Clemmings could be standing in the way. Chryst and Hueber absolutely know what they’re doing when it comes to offensive linemen and I don’t think they moved Clemmings over to see him sit the bench.

Finally Upittbaseball… thanks for the GREAT post on Blewitt. Anyone harboring doubts about this kid’s potential as a kicker/punter extraordinaire should take a few moments to watch that highlight. HOLY CRAPOLA!!!

Comment by PittofDreams 04.21.13 @ 1:40 pm

Wbb. Not saying I’m on love with WVUs uniforms. Just saying at least they and everybody else are creating some excitement with new swag. Our unis are bad. Look like a poor mans ND or Navy. I hope Heinz field can stay in good shape so blewitt can be an asset. Kicking in that must after a few games isn’t easy especially in late fall.

I’m with you wbb, those new Hoopie Uniforms are absolutely hideous.
Which means I guess I’m from Mercury as well. lol

Perhaps we should stop bitching about the current Uniforms and just thank DW for changing them.
While they’re not as good as the Pitt Script and old colors obviously. They are light years better than the Groundhog Dinocat helmet, “Pittsburgh” uniforms with the no striped pants.

As I see Cornhole won’t just let go of the Groundhog head as it adorns (yea right) the waistband of the bball uni’s and it’s lurking somewhere on the football uni’s as well.

And you know it’s him that’s keeping that thing alive.

Comment by EMel 04.21.13 @ 6:58 pm

@ Frankie,

Oh crap you mean Sean Miller is going to steal Josh Davis from us too ! After he just stole that 5 star kid from Chester HS, right from under JD’s nose.

JD needs to hire me to close these kids. Uchebo should have never left campus without committing.
I mean you have his old HS teammate Josh Newkirk coming in, you have another Nigerian on the team (Zanna) and you have lots of playing time to offer him.

How do you not close him !!!

Comment by EMel 04.21.13 @ 7:03 pm

Same thing with Beejay Anya who was James Robinson’s teammate at DeMatha HS.

Comment by EMel 04.21.13 @ 7:05 pm

If Clemmons continues to progress as the RT, we might be able to Redshirt him as we did with Bisnowaty at LT.

That would be the optimum thing !

Since most of these kids when they’re freshmen are yet quite strong enough to play immediately and that’s what all the top programs do, Redshirt, Redshirt, Redshirt.

Comment by EMel 04.21.13 @ 7:10 pm

whoops meant to type….we might be able to Redshirt Dorian Johnson as we did with Bisnowaty !

Comment by EMel 04.21.13 @ 7:11 pm

Miller already has 2 5-star fowards coming in as freshman … I’d be surprised if he gets Davis since don’t see the blue chips as backups or redshirts

Comment by wbb 04.21.13 @ 7:12 pm

Back to basketball, lol

At this point in our program’s growth, since 2000.

After having been in the NCAA’s 12 of the last 13 years or 11 of 12 yrs. whatever. We have been to one Elite Eight in that time frame and I think 4 Sweet 16’s or is it 5.

After having the best regular season record in the toughest bb conf. (BigEast) in the country since 2001. And being in the championship tournament game 7 of 8 consecutive years and winning it twice.

And having one of the best venues for basketball.

We should be at a point, imo where if we offer a kid they are falling over themselves to accept is as quickly as possible.

I mean if we go to the NCAA’s 19 of 20 years are we still going to lose the best players from PA and lose kids to 2nd & 3 rate programs like for instance Rutgers or Tulane.

I just don’t understand it !

Hail to Pitt !
Veritas et Virtus !

Comment by EMel 04.21.13 @ 7:24 pm

Maybe Miller will play with 3 Forwards or perhaps one of them plays Center, same thing.

But ESPN is reporting AZ is making a run at him.

Some guys are good closers, some aren’t…. most aren’t.

It’s just like sales. You make your pitch, you make it exciting, you make it convincing, you make them like you. You close the deal.

They’re never again going to be as excited about your product as they are during that initial sales pitch. This is a very competitive thing.

It’s not some sales gig where you have 1 or no other competitors. You have lots of competitors and they will close if you can’t !

Comment by EMel 04.21.13 @ 7:52 pm

My feelings about all these transfers.

Whoever sold them on Pitt didn’t do a very good job, imo.

They are akin to somebody returning your product or service for a refund. And then buying your product or service off of someone else.

A free scholarship to Pitt to play football or basketball should not be hard to sell.

>Pitt is a Top 50 Academic School
>Pittsburgh is the Home of many Fortune 500 co’s.
>If you don’t make it Pro, Pitt will find a good job for you.
>Peterson Evts Cnt. is Top Rate
>Pitt bball is Top 25 every year
>Both Pitt bball & football appears on TV more so than 70% of other schools.
>Pitt football has put lots of players who went on to become NFL stars & HOF’ers. Some of the greatest EVER !
>Pitt football mingles with Steeler football.
>Pitt is in a truly unique city.
>Pittsburgh has some of the country’s best arts
, museums and entertainment and is consistently rated as one of the Top cities to live in.
> Oakland, South Side, The Strip & Downtown are all 10-15 minutes away from Pitt’s campus.

Just saw the pitt script guys site and it seems pitt does not want him to put anymore of his ideas on the players. Which is funny cause if Stevie knew anybody on the team and ask them about the script he would find out that they love it! Which goes against what he says every time he is asked the question about the uniforms and colors. He says that the current brand appeals to players and recruits! Yeah, if you are Notre dame or navy! The current players love the script and want something different! Like we say, in the end this topic doesn’t win or lose games but to be a brand that you can identify with and lead us to the acc, there is one answer…. Script!!! It’s just so classy! A retro but futuristic look like no other! Not many schools in the country can say that! Like I said, I pledge to only buy the script! So I have one page on the pitt site and the rest will be e bay for me! Join me! Lets pack Heinz field in script and take pictures. Then send them to every pitt staffer in the athletic dept! Script out Heinz! Not white out or black out but script out!! That would b cool!!

College Football, with redshirts, is arguably a five year turnover. Cutting a head coach loose before conclusion of five years, is complete nonsense in less you know for certain you have a guaranteed winner coming in. This is a process and we all must be patient. Look, he is still changing the culture. Let him work!

As far as the AD goes, Pederson is viewed by his peers as incompetent. He is expected to go when Nordy retires which should be in the next two years. Perhaps the next administration will actually support our sports teams, while maintaining academic excellence. One can be used to spur the other to greatness but our folks don’t get it. The next AD will take us to the next level. Our AD is polarizing the fan bae and his peers, except of course from vaccaro who put smiley on the payroll.

Comment by FRANKCAN 04.21.13 @ 9:12 pm

Emil. You mentioned awesome reasons for a 30 something to want to move to Pittsburgh and start a life. Except of course the weather is a disaster but to each their own. My point is to a average Pitt Football Recruit and or basketball recruit they can care less about half of your list. Go back to when you were 18 now give yourself 3 to 4 stars and have 50 programs recruiting you. Jamie Dixon I dare say isn’t a closer and if you watch the games vs other teams in the tourney our brand of basketball albeit successful over the last few years not so much recently is boring. Now look at Football and the train wreck that has been over the last 4 years or so. My point is the things the matter is winning, tv, swag, energy, excitement, passion is what our Athletic Department is terrible at maintaining. The problem and maybe I’m crazy or the only one to see it is that no one likes Cyanide Pederson. Yes, I only played baseball and not a big time sport at Pitt but no one on our team liked the guy. No one on the hoops team liked the guy and the football player friends of mine couldn’t stand him. He is a dork and under his leadership the sports dept is in a funk. All my opinion but I know it’s true. Foster knew it and couldn’t wait to get on the first train out of Pitt. The brand isn’t sexy when you compare it to the other programs. Again, this is easily fixed by shitcanning Pederson. That and close these kids. You think Saban even though he doesn’t have to close lets 5 star players walk in and out without telling those kids the deal. Obviously Sean does in AZ just look at his class. 5 star PA kid going to the desert. The desert I said. All things point to complacency that Steve Pederson created and maintains. Good night guys.

Comment by Upittbaseball 04.21.13 @ 9:31 pm

Ok Frankcan

Good nite !

As far as the Pitt Script guy. He’s doing that all on his own time and own dime. If he wants to contact the players via facebook or twitter, that’s his business. Again the AD’s office doesn’t pay him therefore they don’t control him.

Instead of battling with the alumni, they should be reaching out to us. You know because we actually are the Alumni, we attend the games, buy the merchandise and WE ARE PITT.

And we will be here after most of you have left Pitt, for a better job or you retire.

These ppl are just unbelievable in their attempted authoritarianism.

Comment by EMel 04.21.13 @ 9:34 pm

@ upittbaseball.

The weather is and shouldn’t be an issue at all.
As it’s the same weather as every Big 10 school and Big 12 schools sans the Texas schools.

Actually the winters are much more severe and much more colder in Big 10 country than Pittsburgh and is over half of Big 12 country as well.

Also you don’t play bball outdoors, as it never has affected recruiting at places like Syracuse and Uconn or again Big 10 schools.

And Pitt’s urban campus should be a big plus considering that most of those kids have no commonality to rural areas and some of these sleepy college towns in the middle of nowhere.

As far as my list, the only one that is subject to debate, imo. Is they might not be interested in Pittsburgh art, museum, entertainment aspects, but then some might. Anyway it’s there and it’s available.

Again Pitt & Pittsburgh offers far more variety of interests and diverse things to do than most other campuses for kids who want a more diverse, more interesting time in college, than some hayseed campus in the middle of nowhere. If they’re just into sports, well Pittsburgh offers 3 Professional Sports teams. Maybe you’re heard of the World Famous Pittsburgh Steelers, or Multiple Stanley Cup Champions Pittsburgh Penguins or the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Much as I dislike Cornhole I don’t think kids are basing their decision on whether or not to come to Pitt, on him.

Pitt just needs to start winning 10 games a year in football as we did in 2009 and we had a Top 15 recruiting class that WAS coming in, in 2011. It was sexy enough just a few short years ago !

The AD is the overseer and cheerleader of the entire sports programs. Pitt sports under his leadership has diminished in stature. I must agree with upitt on this because Pederson has no credibility with players, coaches and peers in the industry. No credibility lends itself to mediocrity at best and that is what Pitt has become.

With expansion expected to continue, sports programs that are relevant and are built to grow market share and competitiveness drive their destination and for that reason I am more concerned then ever with competing programs and their respective AD’s. Let’s not talk about academics because the expansions aren’t concerned about academics. Let’s be realistic. Our AD continues to bring the program down and for that reason, he has been deemed….the weakest link. Goodbye!

Weather is better in Pgh than in Syracuse, Ann Arbor, East Lansing, Madison, Illinois/Northwestern, State College and Fort Worth, and about the same as Columbus and Connecticut. This is not a factor except for some people who was born and raised in the north and thinks that the warmer weather is better.

Regarding Keller Chryst — why has no one here mentioned that his dad is the QBs coach for the San Francisco 49ers. We speak ad nauseam about the fact that his uncle coaches Pitt, but for god Sakes his dad is in Cali.

Comment by MikePitt 04.22.13 @ 8:20 am

MikePitt: position coaches in the NFL rarely stay put for more more than 3-4 years; just look at Geep’s resume. Coordinators will stay put, but not position coaches. A QB coach who was involved in Alex Smith’s turnaround and Colin Kaepernick lighting the world on fire is a desirable coach. There’s a very good chance Geep could be an offensive coordinator in 2014. It may be San Francisco if current OC Greg Roman gets a head coach gig. He may tag along with Roman to get away from Harbaugh’s shadow (for good reasons, Harbaugh gets 99% of the credit for 49ers turnaround).

I think it would be a mistake for Keller to choose Stanford because his Dad is close by when it’s so easily possible Geep could be elsewhere in 2013. Hell, a rough season by the Steelers offense and Geep could be OC in Pittsburgh.

To Pittscript… would like to see one more version of a new style Pitt uniform with Script before Pitt Admin puts you out of business.

How about combining the “Nike Pro Combat” look with the New York Jets throwback shoulder stripes and colors?

The Dark Navy and Old Gold/Mustard are more true to school colors and would remind many of the Old School Pitt unis from way back in the day.

The following link might help.

Comment by Pittscript 04.22.13 @ 11:24 am

what a joke that supposedly the kids like this ‘brand’… did SP actually say that? …. Yeah, maybe the recruits’ great, grandparents….

Our ‘brand’ is a subliminal message to go the ND, Navy, GT or a variety of other schools with the same color combo… only in better hues…. nothing is going to be ND ‘gold dome’ look.

Absolutely right about our colors and script being a mix of retro and contemporary… yeah back in the day when they made the change those colors looked a little ’70ish’… but just look at the colors of other schools and what people wearing today.

example…. did people see the sunday post gazette sports page… first page… lots of pictures of college teams…

… my point is you can quickly go through those pictures and immediately see who that team is as soon as you see the picture.

As for the Keller, remember after the superbowl they didn’t let anyone leave the staff… I have to think that did not sit well and soon mass departures will occur… so you guys are right about the kids father.

Hey, watched “hey rookie” last night and was profiling Wilson… impressive person and player… PC made this kid into the player he is… Impressive.
