Of course, FDR never had to watch the “High-Octane” offense, did he?  Everybody and their uncles have strong opinions about yesterday’s game against Buffalo. Disappointed, angry, felt lied to, frustrated…  Those are all valid thoughts after watching the new era of PITT football, Graham style, roll into Heinz Field, or should we say limped in.

While some fans, most fans, well let’s be honest,  every fan was let down, not every fan should think that’s the caliber of football we are going to see for the rest of the season.  At least I don’t think so.   I believe that the offense we saw in the second half will be the norm.  Not to say we’ll score 28 points in every half, we can but dream, but we’ll see strong running and better passing from Sunseri like we did in the second half compared to the first.

There is a lot to work on to make that happen though.  Here’s what jumps out to me:

Plenty of tailgating ahead. Probably a bit of drinking afterwards as the plan is to spend the night. Getting to the ‘Burgh early so I can take a brief stroll through Oakland. Always something I like to do before the season starts.

The game is on ESPN3.com. Hope your internet provider has it. I’ll be trying to live tweet through the game. My feed is below.

I have things to do tonight to clear the deck for the weekend in Pittsburgh. So no time to break down this latest rundown on expansion/conference realignment mess.

Several sources said that while the media attention is locked on the Big 12’s purported courtship of BYU, what’s really happening behind the scenes is this:

The Big 12 is considering a raid of the Big East for at least two teams and perhaps more.

The names I heard from multiple sources were Pittsburgh and Rutgers, but I have to believe others, including Louisville and West Virginia, are in play.

The key items from this story to remember. The timeline for this stuff has allegedly been accelerated, but we are still talking in terms of years not months.

UPDATE: As if this wasn’t enough, well there is more.

Lines and Leadership

Getting harder to focus on getting the post out. I’m excited for tomorrow. Ready for the start of Pitt’s season.

Not sure if there will be a liveblog for tomorrow. With the game on ESPN3.com (i.e., the computer) I’m not sure how many people will be eager to switch screens or be using multiple computers. I’ll figure that out tonight. At the minimum there will be a open thread for comments and probably my Twitter feed, which will be active. Of course, I’m worried about my in-game Tweeting, just because of the speed of the game. Not sure how fast I can really tap stuff out on the phone while at the game. On to the links and commentary.

Team captains were named a couple days ago. I find this a welcome change from the previous approach of naming team captains halfway through the season. If you don’t know who the leaders on the team are by the end of camp and practices, then there was something wrong with the way the camp was run.

I don’t really feel as if I have a choice. I can’t avoid the discussion. Less than 8 hours to the start of college football season. Less than 60 hours to Pitt’s opening, high octane, accelerant enhanced team takes the field. And I have to write about more conference realignment. There’s a reason why many people just want 1-A football to get to four 16-team conferences, just to get it done since it is heading in that direction. But instead, there have to be long complicated dramas. Egos, and just a general mess in the middle.

I could try and ignore it. I could try not to write about it, but…

Okay… I’ll go. I’ll go, I’ll go, I’ll go.
