Open Thread: Quest for 200

Seemed even sillier to type that for the post title, but there it is.

The American-Pitt game is on ESPN3.com if your ISP offers it.

Otherwise it will be somewhere on the radio or some technically not quite legal feed. Which I don’t want to know but some other wise soul will post in the comments.

Nope, not on in DC. Their channel is covering the GW game instead.

Can’t wait till the students come back. The Pete is dead again. There’s no energy to feed off of.

Getting outhustlef tonight.

Comment by Scott 12.22.10 @ 7:27 pm

Down 8-6 in rebounds.

Comment by alcofan 12.22.10 @ 7:30 pm

ESPN 3 is sputtering for me today. I hope they fix that soon.

Comment by Panthoor 12.22.10 @ 7:33 pm

Game over.

Comment by Scott 12.22.10 @ 7:40 pm

And look, Gil’s having two good games in a row!!

Comment by merlin 12.22.10 @ 7:45 pm

Let’s hope it’s a trend.

Comment by Scott 12.22.10 @ 7:55 pm

Terrible d last two trips.

Comment by Scott 12.22.10 @ 8:04 pm

We need to put a body on that European guy. He’s killing us.

Comment by Scott 12.22.10 @ 8:14 pm

If Taylor can do that all the time then we’re set.

Comment by Panthoor 12.22.10 @ 8:18 pm

He looks great tonight.

Comment by Scott 12.22.10 @ 8:23 pm

Pitt up 15 with 5 to go. One thing we have got to get fixed is our foul shooting. Year after year it is awful….tonight, another clinic in how NOT to shoot fouls…just terrible form by Taylor et al. Seems like an accident when it happens to go in.

Comment by Dan 72 12.22.10 @ 8:35 pm

Our ft shooting is going to kill us one of these days. I just hope it’s not in the tournament.

Comment by Scott 12.22.10 @ 8:38 pm

Our defense is gone. At times you can see traces of what we were and then we give up an uncontested three pointer. This needs to be fixed as soon as possible, somehow. Oh, and dear God the ft’s…

Comment by Panthoor 12.22.10 @ 8:39 pm

We used to lock down the perimeter. Now it seems like we give up so many open looks.

Comment by Scott 12.22.10 @ 8:43 pm

Finally somebody who can hit a foul shot.

Comment by Scott 12.22.10 @ 8:44 pm

2 for 10 from the line from our bigs last night, led to 52% overall FT% from the team last night. McGhee was really making progress at the line until December rolled around. Taylor has a horrible hitch in the motion that was never addressed. These guys should be able to hit 55-65% of their FT’s. Here’s hoping we don’t get in a “hack a shaq” game anytime soon.

Monday will be very interesting…

Comment by Pauly P 12.23.10 @ 8:46 am

UCONN is giving up high %’s from 3 point land (near 40%) and have not been very tested at this point (they have the worst SOS in the top 50 teams in the NCAA)… They do, however, have Kemba Walker, G2G that can easily hang 30 on us.

Expect a grind it out game, Ashton coming alive from the perimeter, lots of tip ins for the bigs, several lead changes, Kemba shooting lights out, and a nail biter at the end….

I like our chances.

Comment by Pauly P 12.23.10 @ 8:57 am

UConn is way overrated. Walker could and probably will drop 30 and Pitt should still win.

Comment by hugh green 12.23.10 @ 9:01 am

I don’t see much evidence that UConn is ovveraated, as they have had some good pre-season wins, and after that Tenessee fiasco, I would think that the UConn fans would be saying the same about Pitt.

Pitt needs to rebound to win, and they are usually more physical than UConn (unlike Tennessee.) I eelieve that willbe the key if Pitt wins.

Even though this game is smack right into center of vacation, I would hope the Zoo shows up in droves.

Comment by wbb 12.23.10 @ 9:22 am

I think the zoo will be there. It’s a huge game between top 10 (potentially top 5) teams. There will be plenty of students willing to cut their breaks short for that.

Comment by TJ 12.23.10 @ 10:22 am

wbb- UCONN beat two of the most overrated teams in the country (MSU & Kentucky). They might beat Pitt, but they definitely are overrated.

Comment by Omar 12.23.10 @ 10:45 am

it’s just Walker and the big dude Oriakhi inside. Besides those two, this is not a good UConn team. Maybe not as bad as folks thought during the past off-season, but nowhere near a Top 5 team. Maybe Top 25………

Comment by hugh green 12.23.10 @ 11:35 am

Gold out Monday!!! Two top 6 teams! Let’s go Pitt!

Comment by Joe 12.23.10 @ 11:36 am

They looked lethargic against AU and let them hang around way too late in that game. They’re not going to outrebound a single BE team as easily as they did AU. Most of that was Taylor and a big edge in athleticism. I would have like to have seen a better effort entering conference play.

And yes — ESPN3 is horrendous. The video quality is consistently poor. Contrast with Netflix, which absolutely never has problems with its streaming signal.
