Open Thread: YSU-Pitt

By the time you read this I’ll have been in Pittsburgh for a while. At this point, I’ve probably been drinking a bit and just enjoying a beutiful day in Lot 23.

Comment are open, but keep it relatively clean.

I’ll be tweeting most of the day, and I’ve put a widget to accompany the open thread.

1st and 10 from the 11…should have faded to the end zone.

Only person more full of factual errors than me today: Bill Hillgrove.

He just called Sunseri Stull a bunch of times.

And speaking of every Pitt fan’s favorite QB, he just threw his first TD!!

I might just crack a can of Miller Lite to start the festivities. Nothing fancy, but it’s what someone left in my fridge last weekend.

NICE!!!!!

This Tino kid will never make the team by successfully trying to outplay the starter.

“Only person more full of factual errors than me today: Bill Hillgrove.”

He just made another one, is he drunk? Hahaha

After throwing an INT in OT that will probably cost ‘cuse the game, the Greg Paulus sensation that was about to sweep the nation is officially on hold.

Comment by Jimbo Covert's my Dad 09.05.09 @ 3:40 pm

That was a really bad INT too. After scrambling, he had all day. Then threw in to a crowd. Terrible.

Comment by Jon C 09.05.09 @ 3:42 pm

Syracuse should have inquired about Levance Fields instead. He would have plowed the NT into the end zone and thrown Upstate New York into fiesta mode.

Comment by Panthoor 09.05.09 @ 3:43 pm

HILLGROVE DRUNK…NAH!

Comment by pitt it is 09.05.09 @ 3:43 pm

Now we’re just getting silly.

here goes YSU about to lay 7 on us

Don’t give them their first TD! Woooooo, Nix!

Comment by dugdog 09.05.09 @ 3:46 pm

And pornstar Ricky Gary comes through.

any rbs that pitt isn’t getting into the game? Good to see them getting people in

Comment by Heel Hater 09.05.09 @ 3:51 pm

Heel Hater, Harris haha. Poor kid.

Comment by dugdog 09.05.09 @ 3:53 pm

put it in the books.

Comment by pitt it is 09.05.09 @ 3:55 pm

That’s the way it should be, i.e. give a lot of guys some playing time: Lewis, Graham, Burns, Stull, Sunseri, etc. BTW, who all played fullback?

Comment by BigGuy 09.05.09 @ 4:06 pm

Great start….out here, now I can put the Sun Bowl to sleep (and avoid the OSU barbs).

Hail to PITT!

The best part of the game: the crowd booing Stull when he came back in after Sunseri.

Comment by JoeyD 09.05.09 @ 5:37 pm

Look out, ND is winning big in their home opener. Get ready for the Chubby Charlie going Pro talk. Maybe ND will extend his contract another 10 years.

Great win today Pitt! Why? 1-0 sounds better than 0-1.

Off to Buffalo….

?????? ????????? ????????… ??????? ? ?????????, ??????? ????.

Comment by Clemento 09.05.09 @ 6:06 pm

Wow, they just called that defenseless player penalty in the OSU – Georgia game…. what’s a defender to do? Bad call that could swing the game.

Comment by dugdog 09.05.09 @ 6:33 pm

note that Stull threw the bubble screen much better than last year. 3 long gains, mainly because of the WRs evading the 1st tackler, but at least Stull got them the ball pretty quickly

O-line looked pretty good albeit against 1-AA, but as I said before, if they gel, we have a chance of having a good year. The one thing I noticed about Cignetti is that he stretched the field from sideline to sidelne … some of the passes were short but wide. I’m also glad to see Dickerson being used more, both as TE and H-back .. he has to present match-up problems due to his size and speed.

Finally, YSU’s best play was the deflected pass … although I thought both hit the ground (I’m biased)

Comment by w Bill 09.05.09 @ 7:39 pm

Stull had a good game. Went thru his progrrssions nicely on that one touchdown. Sunseri is going to. Be good, but he forced a throw in end zone and was lucky it wasn’t intercepted and threw behind the recover on the next play. Rookie misakes . That’s why. Stull is starting.

Comment by tiger paul 09.05.09 @ 8:49 pm

It would’ve been nice for the big eleven to have taken a big hit today. I guess it was wishful thinking for OSU, Iowa and Minn to all lose today. So close.

As for Pitt, I agree that 1-0 sounds better than 0-1. Any thoughts on how Stull will play up in Buffalo. I am fearing the worse out of our qb play there.

Joey–not the best–it was and is low class to boo anyone on your team at any time.

Comment by pitt1972 09.05.09 @ 9:25 pm

B11 may have escaped but ACC hasn’t

NC St, WFU both lost at home, Duke losing to Richmond at home, and Virginia lost at home to Bill & Mary (lot worse than Cuse losing to Minn in OT) & Maryland likely to llose at Cal

After rough 1st halves, UL, USF & UConn appear to have things in order although its still 3rd quarter

Note that Paul Rhoads won his debut vs N Dakota St 34-17

Comment by w Bill 09.05.09 @ 9:45 pm

Somewhere in Oklahoma someone is crying.

Comment by Panthoor 09.05.09 @ 10:23 pm

Yes, complete asshole move to boo Stull. I am in agreement that he is not a good div. I QB and I desperately wish he was not our starting QB, but to boo him is just pathetic. When the players are making a few mil a year, then, please, feel free to boo your drunk ass off, but when it’s a college kid who, despite his shortcomings, is trying his best, keep your groans to yourself. Hard to believe that even has to be said.

Comment by Carmen 09.06.09 @ 12:54 pm

Amen to your comment Carmen. I concur completely. The best retort to all of this “boo blather” was (in my opinion) made by Danny Murtaugh eons ago and quoted in the 9/7 blog. Incidentally, I wonder if the same fans are responsible for booing Ramirez away from the Bucs. We could have used him at 3rd base. Ah well, who said humans were created to be humane? george from Columbus
