Bad Ideas: WVU Band Edition

Really, this just seems silly. No profanities were used, yet somehow the messages some members of the  WVU Band had on their instruments offended.

It wasn’t immediately clear what the messages said or how they were displayed, but Ms. Neil said they were derogatory. She did say, though, that no foul language was used.

Under the positive participation section of the band’s code of conduct, the students’ grades will drop two letters, she said.

Also, one of the band members will not be allowed to travel to the Jan. 2 Fiesta Bowl. Ms. Neil declined to reveal what that student did to receive the additional punishment, citing privacy issues.

Fans at the game, which WVU lost 13-9, had complained about the messages.

Who knew WVU fans were so easily offended? You would think this message from the band that night might be more bothersome in hindsight.

My curiosity is certainly piqued…

WVU learned a lesson we’ve all learned when we call our friend at halftime, gloating about a football score, only to watch our team blow it in the second half- don’t count your chickens before they hatch.

Pretty witty, Chas…..

Technically, the band is correct – they ARE going to the conference BCS game, just not the national championship.

Kudos to the WVU fans who complained, if they did. I saw the story but frankly totally assumed it was Pitt fans who were offended and reported it. Then again, if it had been Pitt fans complaining, WVU wouldn’t have punished those guys…in fact they probably would have given them first class flights to the Fiesta Bowl.

I think this is STUPID!!! So a WVU band member doesn’t like PITT and put a sign on her flute.. boo hoo. Get over it! I don’t care what the sign said. I was at the game in which the PITT PA annoucer made silly comments about WVU fans during the game. We all laughed knowing her was poking fun at a steeotype. Nobody got hurt, but the guy got FIRED.

Oh no! My most hated rival (that we play) said something bad about me, I’m telling my mommy!!

GET OVER IT PEOPLE!

HALLELUIAH, HOLY SH*T!!
