Open Thread: Shooting for 30-30-3

I’m at the game, but this is where the rest of you can comment. This 63d meeting of Syracuse and Pitt could potentially put the series at a dead tie.

Well, I guess the QB change worked for Syracuse…

…but seriously, this is a must win game. Not for bowl reasons, just because if you can’t beat Syracuse, YOU SUCK!!

Very well said son of Jimbo Covert!

Comment by John Wayne 11.03.07 @ 2:10 pm

We should, and will (yes, fingers are crossed) be beating the cuse badly…but, the D has to know they’re going to pass, pass, pass…so how ’bout d pressure!

Comment by Oregon al 11.03.07 @ 2:12 pm

Huge conversion!

Comment by Jim 11.03.07 @ 2:13 pm

Oregon,

Yes we should be kicking their asses, but it is a tie, I am very worried!

Comment by Alfred E. Neuman 11.03.07 @ 2:14 pm

Fucking shit….

Comment by Jimbo Covert's my Dad 11.03.07 @ 2:16 pm

Connor Lee! He is money in the bank! Has anyone heard of his famous brother!

Oh I spoke too soon!

Comment by Jay Paterno 11.03.07 @ 2:16 pm

I am starting to worry big time!

Comment by Alfred E. Neuman 11.03.07 @ 2:17 pm

Anyone else’s “gamecast” crashing over and over and over again?

Comment by Stuart 11.03.07 @ 2:22 pm

A.E……worried out here in Oregon, too….ESPN 360 is a quarter behind…just had the TD grab by Turner…so, listening to Bill and Bill, and still worried…

Comment by Oregon al 11.03.07 @ 2:22 pm

Bostick held the ball too long and took a very bad sack, there was no one covering our slot reciever.

3rd and 13 great call a 7 yard pass!

Comment by Alfred E. Neuman 11.03.07 @ 2:23 pm

Oregon, I am lucky I live in Cincinnati and by contract they have to carry the Big East game of the week in a Big East city.

Pitt should have put this game away in the first half, this game is going to go down to the wire, hopefully we make no mistakes and come out with a win.

Comment by Alfred E. Neuman 11.03.07 @ 2:26 pm

At least our special teams have shown up so far today…

Comment by Stuart 11.03.07 @ 2:28 pm

Great return, now let’s make them pay!

Score a touchdown!

Comment by Alfred E. Neuman 11.03.07 @ 2:28 pm

please…don’t….fumble….

Comment by Stuart 11.03.07 @ 2:32 pm

here we go again…run right into the wall…

Comment by Stuart 11.03.07 @ 2:33 pm

FINALLY THEY RUN THE pitch i’ve been asking for for 2 fucking weeks now.

Comment by Stuart 11.03.07 @ 2:33 pm

Shady IN!

Comment by Oregon al 11.03.07 @ 2:33 pm

Jesus Christ how many times during this game have we tried to run it between the tackles to score?

Finally they go outside!

Comment by Alfred E. Neuman 11.03.07 @ 2:33 pm

See what happens when you don’t run up the middle every play down there?. Shady, thank you.

Comment by Panthoor 11.03.07 @ 2:34 pm

The D held, we fielded the punt, let’s grind out a long offensive drive and put the orange away!

Comment by Alfred E. Neuman 11.03.07 @ 2:42 pm

once..again…please…don’t….fumble….that’s all i’m asking for.

Comment by Stuart 11.03.07 @ 2:43 pm

Berry’s returns have given us good (and last time, great) field position.

Comment by Oregon al 11.03.07 @ 2:44 pm

Time for some attempted trickeration?

Comment by Stuart 11.03.07 @ 2:46 pm

a nate byham sighting and a 3rd down conversion!!!

Comment by matt in orlando 11.03.07 @ 2:47 pm

or we can run some crap plays and give them the ball…

Comment by Stuart 11.03.07 @ 2:48 pm

A screen on third down what a surprise call!

Comment by Alfred E. Neuman 11.03.07 @ 2:48 pm

We did, instead of being a bit aggressive on the play calling we get very conserative.

Hopefully the d holds

Comment by Alfred E. Neuman 11.03.07 @ 2:50 pm

Wow….i wouldn’t exactly call this week a “step forward.” Struggling with Syracuse all day…ugh. If we didn’t screw ourselves all the time we may show some real improvement. I’m glad we have two weeks to rest and prepare for Rutgers – we’re going to need it.

Comment by Stuart 11.03.07 @ 3:00 pm

up 10…should be more but im happy. lets hope paul rhoades does not run a prevent

Comment by matt in orlando 11.03.07 @ 3:00 pm

You have to be kidding me…

Comment by Stuart 11.03.07 @ 3:04 pm

Wow. We suck. As usual. Good job guys. Let’s muff this onside kick up. Unbelievable.

Comment by Stuart 11.03.07 @ 3:06 pm

Umm…the clock never fucking started on 1st down…stayed at 1.46 the entire time…what the fuck? These big east refs are the most useless retards in the entire world. They should all be fired. Or executed.

Comment by Stuart 11.03.07 @ 3:13 pm

Nate Byham 1 catch haha good gameplan. Keep throwing to Strong though.

Comment by Chris 11.03.07 @ 3:13 pm

Go for it on 4th and 1 no doubt about it. Give it to Conredge up the middle!!!!

Comment by Chris 11.03.07 @ 3:16 pm

Unbelievably bad play calling.

Comment by Panthoor 11.03.07 @ 3:17 pm

go for it….pitch to the wide side of the field. or fake the inside handoff and turn and pitch

Comment by matt in orlando 11.03.07 @ 3:17 pm

WOW,how do you not get 1 yard when you need it. This has happened a lot this year.

Comment by Chris 11.03.07 @ 3:17 pm

How can we never get a single fucking yard. Never. For two fuckign weeks all we should work on is getting one fucking yard. This is the single most embarassing part of our school. We are trying to lose. If you can’t get one fucking yard you deserve to lose.

Comment by Stuart 11.03.07 @ 3:18 pm

bad teams find a way to lose. we’ll find out who is worse

Comment by matt in orlando 11.03.07 @ 3:19 pm

Come on defense!!!!

Comment by Chris 11.03.07 @ 3:21 pm

Romeus saved us.

Comment by Panthoor 11.03.07 @ 3:23 pm

Wow…for once we didn’t grasp defeat from the jaws of victory…

Sorry guys, no moral victories tonight.

Comment by Stuart 11.03.07 @ 3:23 pm

Phew..game ball to Berry (and a bit of help to Romeus on 2nd down).

Comment by Oregon al 11.03.07 @ 3:23 pm

that one was much closer than it should be, but we won! hail to pitt!

Comment by matt in orlando 11.03.07 @ 3:26 pm

More like an “immoral” victory … immoral that the coaches accept their salaries …

Enjoy now because we probably won’t score, let alone win, again this season.

Comment by geeman2001 11.03.07 @ 3:49 pm

Romeus almost sacked the QB the last 5 plays. But honestly, I don’t understand if you are going to blitz only 3 guys, how you can let anyone get out of bounds or even let them get a first.

Ultimately, when you’ve got 3 horrible players on the right side of your offensive line, those 4 and 1 situations aren’t going to be easy. You almost have to run wide left every time.

Bachman was crap today, BTW. McGlynn and Vangas I expect to be crap, but Bachman was given a chance and didn’t do well today. Dom Williams was even in there a bit and didn’t really do any better.

I gotta believe Jacobsen is starting at RG as early as opening day next year.

Comment by ryan 11.03.07 @ 3:57 pm

We won, I am with the geeman on the enjoyment factor.

My question is why is Chris (i get blown off the ball) McKillop starting in front of Romeous?

Stuart, is was close and you must admit we tried to secure moral victory.

The offensive play calling was a bit too conservative at the end of the game, it seems we play not to lose (AKA UConn 2006)

Well I am going to savor this one!

BTY Vangas, McGlynn, Bachman and Williams SUCK!

Comment by Alfred E. Neuman 11.03.07 @ 4:17 pm

at least we went for it on two fourth and 1s. im worried that the lack of success will scare him off in the future, if and when we are able to get 1yd when we need it.

Comment by matt in orlando 11.03.07 @ 4:23 pm

Cinn beating SF 31-14 in first quarter. Go figure!

Comment by TMG Panther 11.03.07 @ 4:28 pm

Why wouldn’t you play it conservatively at the end of the game? Would you rather run it or pass it when you are trying to run out the clock? Of course the answer would be more obvious if we had an offensive line that could generate any bit of push in order to get 1 yard (at midfield or the goal line).

Comment by Joey D 11.03.07 @ 9:34 pm

Is it illegal for Pitt to throw a screen pass. Heck, we threw Collin’s a swing pass for good yardage, so heaven forbid if we ever use that play twice in one game. And why throw the ball to Nate Byham too often, he might hurt someone on the other team after the catch and run. I thought Walt Harris was poor, but he looks like a rocket scientist along side these coaches.
