Happy Saturday

I don’t know how I feel about this game at all. Watch out for Chris Long and Jeffrey Fitzgerald on the Virginia defense. Mel Kiper (Insider) says Long is the best defensive end in the nation and Fitzgerald is one of the best sophomore DE’s in the country.

Watch those two go up against Pittsburgh’s senior left tackle Jeff Otah. He’s still a bit raw but that’s because he played only one year of high school football. Otah (6-5, 339) played both football and basketball in junior college and has shown the skills to be a pro-style pass-blocker. Coach Dave Wannstedt has praised Otah for way he’s been performing, and this will be another big test for Otah, who should see either Long or Fitzgerald on almost every snap.

Otah could be the key to getting Pat Bostick some time to throw the ball. I assume Bostick is going to be a little shaky in his first start, but Otah (and the rest of the line) can relieve some of that — just don’t count on it.

Edit: Penn State and Notre Dame lost. Everything is good (for now).

WVU, PSU, and ND all lost in the same weekend. When is the last time that happened? And we still have a chance to win!

And watching this MSU/Wisconsin game, maybe our D isn’t too bad after all. Maybe (hopefully) that first half agaginst UConn was an aberration.

You know it’s interesting to see the guys who bailed on Pitt and Walt really show up and do nothing.

Which leads me to ask a couple of questions

1) Would Walt have kept his job without the mass exodus? (Morelli, Andrew Johnson, etc.)

2) Would these guys have been better off if they stayed with Pitt? (Yeah I know it’s all speculation at this point, but Johnson is a non-factor now and Morelli appears to have not grown as a QB)

I don’t think anything short of a brain transplant could save Morelli. We really dodged a bullet there. We’d still be losing this season…but we’d be more pissed off cause we have a senior QB that sucks, instead of a freshman.

Stuart,

I guess that is what I am asking…do you think in a different system with a different coach (Walt)…remember Walt did some pretty impressive things with QB’s that had lesser skills (Gonzalez, Lytle, etc., etc.)

PSU loses
WVU loses
Pitt wins?

Can the trinity be completed? I don’t think so either.

I don’t think there is a system in the world that would make that kid any good. Unless you had a system that involved removing him from the field in the redzone. He doesn’t look so terrible the first 80 yards…never amazing, but acceptable. Then he sucks in the redzone – 4 consecutive turnovers? Wow. Thats worse than our freshman.

Not to be the blind optimist here…but maybe Pitt is a team that just needs to learn how to win…looking at how they played MSU and that MSU is playing the gem of the big ten Wisconsin to a tie (thus far).

Maybe Pitt can turn this thing around…

OK I am now putting the pipe down 🙂

Well, its 0-0 right now. So you’re sayin we have a chance…

And Wanny makes it sound like we found Marino in practice this week…lets hope he’s right.

Hail to Pitt.

good start

If Wanny was talking like he found Marino, he sure didn’t let him play like Marino.
