So yeah. I’m tired of the Pitt-Penn State thing for this calendar year. Unless they actually draw up a contract, I think we’ve gone deep enough into the issue (especially in this post). Until anything is made official (probably shortly after Paterno is buried), we’ll get this type of thing.

Yesterday, Paterno was asked during his weekly news conference if he would be in favor of playing Pitt on a six-and-four basis — six home games for the Nittany Lions and four away — over a 10-year period.

I’m exhausted of talking about the Pitt-PSU subject, and I don’t think that Paterno is actually serious with what he says. All this does is deflect some of the criticism directed at him, and he even tries to pass it off as AD Tim Curley’s choice. They have a home and home series with Syracuse starting next year — if we’re so “inferior” to them, why do they go and schedule a series with a team that is similar if not worse than us. Scared we’ll pull an upset?

[…] It would seem like a good idea to have these two Pennsylvania schools play each other every single season, just as Florida and Florida State do, just as Clemson and South Carolina do, but they don’t because Penn State currently refuses to schedule such a series because of the Nittany Lions supposed superiority. Pitt Blather thinks it has the answer to why this doesn’t happen: “They have a home and home series with Syracuse starting next year — if we’re so “inferior” to them, why do they go and schedule a series with a team that is similar if not worse than us. Scared we’ll pull an upset?” […]

I want to see a home and home as much as the next guy, but in the interest of full disclosure, the article says Cuse was 10-2 the year they scheduled that.

My point is they could schedule 2 real teams to home and homes, and have 7 home games a year. One home, one aways, and two powder puffs at home, plus 4 big ten games, is 7 home. Instead they are going for the “all powder puff schedule.” They’re not even going to play a top ten team this year, while playing the 3 worst.

And when did they schedule it, i can’t fine syracuse 10-2. They were 9-3 and 10-3 in 2000, is that what he is talking about?

Like everyone knows, they have nothing to gain, but everything to lose. After the lean years this decade they’re going to do everything they can to make sure it doesn’t happen again. Soft big ten? Check. 3 powder puffs? Check. Schedule the single most overrated team in the nation the last 10 years and tell everyone they’re a “powerhouse”? Check. App State would win the national championship with their schedule.

Didn’t Pitt schedule Notre Dame in the coming years?

Comment by Cpiritual 09.12.07 @ 11:33 pm

Yes. You hear anyone around here talking about how they are the anchor of our schedule? Plus for our schedules in the future we try to schedule at least 2 BCS teams per year. And I’m sure we’d schedule 3 BCS teams if PSU will play ball. We’re not hiding from anyone, even when we’re down, unlike the 1 BCS team per year you people want. We’re out there trying to get BCS games.

If a new AD comes in and agrees for a 4 for 6 he (or she) would be hated more than Paterno. And that person knows it. This was a Jerry Micco media plant. He ordered this Ron Applesauce flunky to ask an asinine question to a senile old crank just to make some stupid noise on a slow sports day.

Notre Dame and Iowa, a perennially overrated team and a “soft” Big 10 team. You also scheduled NC State, who’s been poor lately, as well as VT and Miami, two good teams. We’ve also scheduled Virginia (another poor ACC team), Syracuse long ago when they were good…and also Alabama and Nebraska for the future. Moreover, it’s rumored that one of our TBA games (within the next couple years) will be TCU, a highly respected mid-major team. Yeah, we schedule our share of cupcakes, but Pitt isn’t immune to it either.

Speaking of cupcakes, good luck against Buffalo this weekend.

Thanks Brian, I hope they don’t give us the scare that a much better Grambling team would!!
