(This one’s for you, Marco.)

Coach Wannstedt and Assistant Coach Greg Gattuso were in Altoona yesterday. It’s part of Dave Wannstedt’s regular May barnstorming the state.

Pitt reportedly is among the colleges that have offered Mountain Lion standout A.J. Alexander a scholarship, although NCAA rules forbid Wannstedt to confirm or discuss the recruitment of specific players.

“I’m out on the road most of the month of May,’’ Wannstedt said. “Nobody knows more about the football team than me as the head coach. It’s important for me to get out and meet people. I want to let them know that Pitt’s alive. We’re still here.’’

“I didn’t realize how improved Louisville, West Virginia and Rutgers are,’’ Wannstedt said. “Everybody can talk about the Big 10, the Southeastern Conference, but look at our wins out of the conference. The Big East will have three of the top Heisman Trophy condidates next year in Brian Brohm, Patrick White and Ray Rice. The biggest challenge is just the competition in the Big East.’’

Arguably, it’s four if you also include WVU’s Steve Slaton as well.

Now here’s the bad news for the Big East. You know how the SEC regularly gets ripped for playing nothing but patsies in the non-con. The top teams in the Big East looks just as bad — except for two programs with varying degrees of struggles.

While the rest of the conference opens against the likes of Buffalo, Elon, Eastern Michigan, Murray State and Southeast Missouri State, Syracuse opens against a Pac-10 school (Washington) and follows with two Big Ten teams (at Iowa, vs. Illinois). The Orange then begin conference play at Louisville, and, after a visit to Miami (Ohio), play host to West Virginia and Rutgers. That’s no way to revive a program. Pitt is the only team in the conference to play road games against the big three — West Virginia, Louisville and Rutgers — and also must visit Michigan State and Virginia.

Sigh.

What the hell…this is baseball season…what about Pitt baseball!!! Can we please talk about baseball? 😉

I’ve been banned from commenting on BSD for revealing reality to them… but for those of you that can, they’re over there bashing the Big East and talking up the ACC… and of course the Big Ten. They still refuse to decide who’s better based on records and what happens on the field; instead, they base if on a “perception” they have with PSU at the top. Its good reading when you need something to laugh at.

is the link.

I wonder if they know what irony is? How about insulting teams that play weak non-con schedules while you yourselves play FIU, U of Buffalo, and Temple…oh, and that one overrated Notre Dame game.

And they also insult big east teams for having Heisman canidates – HERE’S A REAILTY CHECK FOR YOU – plug in “psu heisman candidates” into news.google.com and see how many articles come up. ZERO. What a joke – insult teams that have players people can name – ask across the nation (not in the big ten) to name YOUR top player. uhh….umm….that stupid kid that can’t read defenses? Or is it one of the 6 that got arrested last week?

Comment by Stuart 05.04.07 @ 4:12 am

BTW, moderators should ban any intelligent thought on this site too, so we can be more like them. At least then we’ll be delusional and think we’re one of the “top programs” too, and won’t have to face reality.

Comment by Stuart 05.04.07 @ 4:15 am

Thanks Chas….yea now what about the baseball team…lol….have a great weekend!

Comment by Marco 05.04.07 @ 7:33 am

I know you guys are joking about Pitt baseball.

Comment by Chris 05.04.07 @ 8:14 am

A.J. Alexander is a pretty decent talent, from what I’ve seen from the stands of Mansion Park when I’m not working band’s fundraising booth. Either way, I’m trying to think of creative ways to influence his decision… a big Pitt flag hanging of the front of my house at least.

Comment by Lee in State College 05.04.07 @ 9:02 am

Stuart, stop trying to cause trouble. Be honest. You were warned twice about being disrespectful before you were banned. I’m really not interested in a flame war. Take it somewhere else.

Comment by Mike @ BSD 05.04.07 @ 9:55 am

Interesting article on BSD about the PSU players that were arrested. Their preliminary hearing is scheduled for today. They are in some deep shit that could really affect the team’s performance this year. Of course, Joepa will still let them play. Maybe the ones that actually go to jail will have play-release.

Comment by Crackbaldo 05.04.07 @ 10:03 am

I cheer for Pitt in every sport! Go CHESS TEAM!

Comment by Tony In Harrisburg 05.04.07 @ 10:15 am

Big shocker: charges dropped against PSU starting cornerback Justin King. Prosecutors “didn’t indicate why.”

At least they had the decency not to bother stating the obvious.

Comment by Dan35 05.04.07 @ 1:02 pm

Stuart, stop being such a crybaby. You’re nothing more than a belligerent instigator who really doesn’t know too much about football.

Dan35, in America there exists the presumption of innocence until guilt is proven. If it’s true that King tried to get the other five guys to stop fighting, how can you fault him? This is EXACTLY what your Pitt troll buddies were saying Rashard Casey SHOULD have done!! Seriously, you guys can find fault with anything PSU-related.

Crackbaldo: how on earth can you criticize JoePa’s punishment methods when…

a.) He kicks players off the team and suspends them ALL THE TIME.
b.) He suspended Connor for three games for PRANK PHONE CALLS!!
c.) He’s not Bobby “I won’t suspend kids for big games because there are better methods” Bowden (he said that, look it up).
d.) HE HASN’T EVEN DECIDED ON A PUNISHMENT YET!!!

Good lord, some kids make some stupid mistakes (which NONE of us are defending, btw) and the Pitt moral majority sits there on their high horses as if your program is morally untouchable. Clue in to the real world…liquored up college students do stupid shit all the time. This is no worse that any of that…it’s just more newsworthy.

Get over yourselves and (once again) focus on beating UConn. Achieving a season worthy of praise, not scorn, should be your number one priority.

Comment by Eric 05.04.07 @ 1:28 pm

Stuart, try plugging “Pitt Heisman candidates” in Google News.

Kudos on pulling out the Websters Unabridged, though. It is nice to see that you figued out how to spell “Heisman” and “candidate”.

By the way, how’s Keith Benjamin? Not to condone what Scirotto was allegedly involved in, but defending the honor of a girl seems a bit more honorable than giving her a right cross.

Comment by JoePa 05.04.07 @ 1:53 pm

OOOOOO, tough guys come in a pack. Just like your football team. Can’t handle him one-on-one?? Gotta get all your boys to try to take out one guy. Typical PSU pussy farmers.

Comment by Chris 05.04.07 @ 2:00 pm

As for Benjamin, all charges were dropped on him, and do yourselves a favor and don’t bring basketball into this hahahahaha.

Comment by Chris 05.04.07 @ 2:02 pm

Yeah I have no idea who the other guy is, just like I have no idea how you can be tough on the internet. But thanks for proving my point. All charges were dropped on Benjamin, so it’s okay. All charges were dropped on King, but it’s not okay? Please explain to me how this works, because I’m sure it makes sense in your brilliant mind…

Oh, and did Benjamin go to Pitt? Then I could care less what sport he played…it’s still a mark on your stellar program.

Comment by Eric 05.04.07 @ 2:21 pm

Eric, let me make this as simple as possible …we all hate penn state…thats not news…its not dislike, its hate and we will bash you a$$holes every chance we get. We hate JoePa, the jerk off fans, and yes Eric we hate you. Am I being childish right now? Yes, so what. Get a life. If you want to have penn state circle jerk go find a penn state page. HhmmmmI wonder why all these Pitt fans are bashing the good boys at Penn State????? Get the F*ck out of here you freaking Dick. There is that clear enough for you to understand?

Comment by RJ 05.04.07 @ 2:36 pm

RJ – I must hand it to you. You just exude class. Quite impressive. Plus, you spelled everything correctly. I can’t say the same for your buddy Stuart.

Hey Stewie, maybe this will help you out.
http://www.wizardsspell.com

Comment by JoePa 05.04.07 @ 3:09 pm

RJ, I don’t care who or what you hate. As long as assholes like Stuart pollute our sites, I have no problem retaliating in kind. Of course, I’m not nearly as much of a jackass as you guys, and I guess that’s the difference right there. Even though our players may have gotten in trouble recently, we at least have a program to be proud of, and we act in kind. You have a shit program, so of course there’s going to be underlying Napoleonic bullshit in everything you say. Get over it, and it’ll make the truth I speak much easier to swallow.

Comment by Eric 05.04.07 @ 3:09 pm

Eric swallows.

Comment by ChrisA 05.04.07 @ 4:14 pm

Eric,
The only reason Joe Fa Fa suspended that dick Connor was because he had the brains to prank call a freakin’ assistant coach. If he had been prank calling, say, a professor, or his ex-girlfriend, you can bet your ass Connor wouldn’t have been suspended. Fa Fa Joe Pa is old Syrian nutbag.

Comment by Crackbaldo 05.04.07 @ 4:46 pm

Okay…and given that three game suspension, you can imagine it’ll be much worse for some of these guys involved in the apartment fight. Although, it looks like, so far, the prosecutor has pretty much failed as making a case. It doesn’t excuse what these guys did, but it does call into question what ACTUALLY happened there.

ChrisA…good one.

Comment by Eric 05.04.07 @ 5:51 pm

Eric go poop your pants with Joe Pa.

Comment by ChrisK 05.04.07 @ 9:33 pm

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

Man, anyone named Chris on this site should quit their stop and do stand-up!!

Oh, and charges have been dropped against Hayes, Sargeant, King and Sales. Enjoy that, Pittsburgh moral majority…

WE ARE…

Comment by Eric 05.04.07 @ 9:58 pm

sooo….Anyone know who Wanny is scouting?. Our away schedule is going to be brutal this season but next season could be our year.

Comment by Panthoor 05.04.07 @ 10:02 pm

Anyone notice a common theme in central PA?

Comment by Cris 05.04.07 @ 10:24 pm

Hey guys, how long was Rod Rutherford’s suspension? I forget, please jog my memory!!

Ha, so much for morals at the expense of winning. You can climb down off your high horses now.

Once again:

Dan Connor – 3 game suspension for PRANK PHONE CALLS!!
Rutherford – 1 quarter against Kent State (because, they were losing)

But hey, he wasn’t charged for ALLEGED assualt or anything. Thank god the GIRL didn’t pursue charges. What a joke!!

Comment by Eric 05.04.07 @ 10:34 pm

Oh, but he did pay for the damages to her car, as well as her medical bills. Stand up guy. WAAAAAAAAY more classy than Justin King.

Comment by Eric 05.04.07 @ 10:37 pm

Yeah, you want to talk about common themes – It’s funny how Pitt athletes’ assault victims (women) resemble their out-of-confernece opponents.

Comment by JoePa 05.04.07 @ 10:38 pm

Anytime JoePa wants to quit pooping himself and schedule Pitt we will be more than ready. 12 – 0 all over again baby.

Comment by ChrisK 05.04.07 @ 10:46 pm

I have found that many times the best way to handle a puss filled zit on my ass is to ignore it. That is how I plan to handle Eric and JoePa posts. I will from this day forward ignore all posts from PSU douche bags. Don’t squeeze the bastards they may get infected.

Comment by Tony In Harrisburg 05.05.07 @ 2:24 am

@ Mike @ BSD

Here is what you called my disrespectful comments:
“Nice…take a cheap shot at Pitt for a recruit re-opening his search… Meanwhile, the same week half a dozen of your players are getting charged with crimes.

I’m sure they’ll hold off on punishing them as long as possible so they can play the whole next season. What a sham. On the brightside for you, I’m sure the judge in the kangaroo court out there is a PSU football ticket holder, condsidering there is nothing else to do.”

And reality has played itself out. What we call that is THE FUCKING TRUTH. You mistake “disrespectful” for the truth. Your site is a joke, you must jump on the PSU bandwagon to even comment about reality.

All of you should continue to delude yourselves. Continue to think you’re a top program in either site, and when anyone else presents reality, erase it. It’ll be easier on yourselves. In the meantime, remember:

12-0,

Never in this decade,

Hail to Pitt.

Comment by Stuart 05.05.07 @ 3:11 am

Remember, 6-6.

Rod Rutherford, anyone? Where was the moral majority then?

Comment by Eric 05.05.07 @ 10:39 am

that says something about the character of the two teams if the worst they can bring up about a pitt player is our quarterback punching a car window 3 years ago, meanwhile 6 of their players were arrested with 2 or 3 possible felonies no more than a week ago.

Comment by matt 05.05.07 @ 6:53 pm

So the past gets minimized then? So we’re just going to overlook the fact that your star QB assaulted a WOMAN and was only suspended ONE QUARTER (because you were losing)??

At least JoePa has the balls to punish his players properly. I guess that says something about each program’s standards, doesn’t it?

So yeah guys, make up your minds on when football became relevant. According to Stuart, it was in the year 2000. According to Matt, it was the very second that the PSU boys got arrested (even though 4 have no been cleared of all charges). Which is it?? Oh wait, I already know the answer: it’s whichever one helps you guys prove your “points.”

Comment by Eric 05.05.07 @ 7:23 pm

online arguments are society at its best. Bunch of people arguing about the most irrelevant details of a sport they have never played.

Comment by Jon C 05.05.07 @ 10:01 pm

All schools are too lenient on their football and basketball players who commit crimes. The booster money is too significant. From what I’ve heard, Clint Session and one of the McKillops did some pretty serious whoopin’ on some frat boys. No doubt with Pitt’s help, their defense attorneys kept them out of trouble. Rod Rutherford no doubt was treated with extreme lenience as well. A crime is a crime. And as a hearless bastard, I wasn’t thrilled that Keith Benjamin apparently will remain on the hoops team. Hitting a woman is garbage.

All schools do it. Ohio State and Clarett. Virginia Tech and Miami in recent years. Everyone knows what lowlives they recruit at West Virginia. It’s the unfortunate compromise made because the biggest money boosters for each school are so obsessed with winning.

That said, the major difference is that Penn State fans, like the hemmorhoids that have been so kind to trespass unwanted on this blog (good thing they don’t think Pitt is a rival or anything), buy into this bullshit (and worse, SPREAD the bullshit) that their school is above all this, that their athletes don’t do any of these things, and that their coach would never tolerate it. Meanwhile, the facts are screaming in the newspaper headlines, multiple times a year in this decade, including TODAY. “Penn State players arrested for assault.” “Penn State player arrested for rape.” “Penn State player beats the living shit out of a police officer.” “Penn State players vandalize a dorm.” “Penn State players steal credit cards.” “Penn State players attack a fraternity house.” On and on. And other than a walk-on wide receiver getting ejected, as well as Dan Connor’s 3 games (because it was a coach, not a meaningless civilian), none of these guys got significant (or any) punishment … most didn’t even miss practice.

Facts are facts. Sorry, Eric/Erin/JoePa/ or whatever alias you take on for a given message.

Comment by geeman2001 05.05.07 @ 10:03 pm

I just want to know from a PSU fan when exactly did football become relevant? You say you have a program to be proud of but how proud was your program from 2000-2004 or the late 80’s? Sure Pitt hasn’t been good recently but you can’t act like PSU is contending for a national title every year that is complete bullshit. You program is hardly a national power, you have been good for 3 years. In your mind Pitt football is nothing because they haven’t been good for those same three years? It seems as though that is acting like football started in 2004. If you want to go back from the beginning that would be 9 national titles to 4 but then suddenly thats going to far back and is irrelevant right? Hippocrates.

Comment by John 05.06.07 @ 5:00 pm

I’ll go all the way back to your last national championship. That’s over 30 years ago, and you’ve had (count ’em) TWO respectable seasons since then (’80 and ’81). Sorry, I don’t really count your Fiesta Bowl season when you got spanked by Utah. Also during that time, JoePa has whipped your program up and down the sidelines. Should we go back further than that? I guess, if I care about seasons only my grandfather was alive for.

By the way, why are you bringing ancient Greek physicians into the discussion? What does that have to do with anything?

Comment by Eric 05.06.07 @ 7:30 pm

12 – 0.

Loser.

Comment by Dan35 05.06.07 @ 9:51 pm

So no legitimate counterpoints then? Didn’t think so…good to see this site is open to intelligent banter…

Comment by Eric 05.06.07 @ 10:07 pm

Your last two national titles are over 20 years ago that is good enough for you? I was barely alive then does that mean they don’t count? And what makes a team respectable exactly in your mind. In 2002 Pitt went 9-4 and won a bowl game, PSU went 9-4 and lost a bowl game does that mean that year was terrible for PSU, or are you going to continue with your ridiculous double standard.

Comment by John 05.06.07 @ 10:22 pm

Okkkkkay…

PSU has had thirteen 10+ win seasons since your last NC (including the 1976 season), whereas you’ve had four. This includes two NC’s AND the undefeated ’94 season (there’s your 12-0, by the way). Hell, PSU has had nineteen 9+ win seasons since your last NC. Pitt has had 18 TOTAL WINNING SEASONS!! Any questions?

Comment by Eric 05.06.07 @ 10:47 pm

Is there a lawyer out there who can speak to the possible conflict of interest of the district judge in the PSU players’ case being a PSU alum and former (possibly current) employee of the University?

Comment by Cris 05.06.07 @ 10:47 pm

I got banned from BSD for pointing out the kangaroo court out there most likely had a judge with PSU season tickets deciding who would play next year. It’s a joke out there, and its almost unbelievable how delusional PSU fans are – they think they’re a top tier program and that they are above all reproach. But don’t worry, they’re not our rival and won’t come over here to spread more of their fiction.

Comment by Stuart 05.07.07 @ 2:45 am

Stuart, you’re an idiot. You created THREE different names to talk shit on our site. You spewed nothing but idiocy, and pawned it off as football logic.

But you’re right, there’s really no reason to be here. Your friend Reed (a Pitt fan) said it best…I’d rather be at a blog that allows for (and PROMOTES) intellectual conversation.

I’ll leave you with this: Ohio St, Wisconsin, Florida St, and Tennessee. These are some of the perennial powerhouses we’ve beaten in the last two years. But no, we’re not top tier or anything. Give it a rest, you embarrass yourself. Wake up and smell the coffee…Pitt is nothing more than our red-headed cousin we’re embarrassed to introcuce at family functions. This annoying cousin won a game of HORSE in the driveway seven years ago, and still talks about it to his buddies to this very day. Our cousin really needs something new to brag about, but it’s okay…we’ll keep going about our business and winning big-time bowl games. 12-0? Yeah, that’s our REALISTIC regular season goal next year. Have fun losing to Rutgers.

Comment by Eric 05.07.07 @ 9:47 am

Trolls bore the crap out of me. Thank you, though, for proving how little PSU fans care about Pitt. The effort was impressive.

Talking shit and being banned cuts both ways. Congrats on being the 3d person banned on this site.

Comment by Chas 05.07.07 @ 11:00 am

He was quite persistent for someone who could care less about Pitt???
