Open Thread: Pitt-UCF, …Whatever

3:30-ish, ESPNU.

Do I feel a little checked-out on this game? Yeah. Kind of. This game may determine just how checked-out I am for the rest of the way.

UCF flat out has a great offense, and Pat Narduzzi’s mindless speculation as to its reality as compared to UNC, only made it more ridiculous.

Pitt’s defense came in hard for questioning after UNC. Not just the defense, but the schemes. That Narduzzi’s defense just doesn’t do the job against teams with good passing games. And UCF has that.

There’s a grimly cynical side of me that is wondering if Narduzzi lets the defensive scheme be changed to play more against defending the pass. But since it will be against a top-notch offense with a dual-threat QB, it won’t make much of a difference. Allowing Narduzzi to justify sticking with the scheme he wants. Regardless of the outcome.

I may be a bit hungover and descending into a bad place.

Not to worry Chas. Our head coach is pleased that our punter can catch a snap. This how out of touch this guy is…..
A second year coach will teach PN how to coach a football team today. Look for a blood bath.

The fundamental premise of Narduzzi’s defense is that most college QBs do not throw accurately, so defend the run. Against a great passer this is disastrous.

I am guessing we will see Pitt try hard the first half and get smoked the second.

Beautiful return by lopes, what smart cuts. Still say UCF 56 Pitt 17. Goat this defense is for run oriented B10 of 20 years ago, it will never work when offenses are as wide open as they are today.

Comment by RKB 09.29.18 @ 3:17 pm

6 penalties in the 1st quarter.
Poor Pickett he cant find anyone that is open or could it be UCF has very fast defensive backs, unlike ours.

Our linebackers have no speed at all.

Comment by Pitt Dreamer 09.29.18 @ 3:45 pm

Why do I still watch this. I have no interest in watching this crap but I still do.

Comment by JP 09.29.18 @ 3:46 pm

only 7 more games before we have a new coach.

Comment by Pitt Dreamer 09.29.18 @ 3:46 pm

So i thought we would put up a fight in the 1st half and boy have we! Only down 21 boys!

Comment by Shawn 09.29.18 @ 3:56 pm

SAD! 🙁

This is what you get when the Running Game gets UGLY!

It was just a matter of time.

Comment by PittofDreams 09.29.18 @ 4:15 pm

So what does Narduzzi say after today? Oh i thought we fought hard? Oh we just didnt catch breaks? Oh we just didnt execute? Aside from the bad scheme i am very worried about recruiting and player development. Forget about future recruiting. This staff has shown they cant develop their talent and how will we ever win like that? How many of these player transfer after this season? This progrom will be very lucky to win 4 games this year. I miss HCPC. I supported Narduzzi but i was WRONG!

Comment by Shawn 09.29.18 @ 4:21 pm

If Pitt continues their futility, the ACC may do what the Big East did to Temple years ago. Sad!

Comment by MarietteMike 09.29.18 @ 5:05 pm

Narduzzi should be fired Sunday morning.

Comment by Pitt Dreamer 09.29.18 @ 5:24 pm

A good @ss wipping. Sad.

Comment by MariettaMike 09.29.18 @ 5:38 pm

Think we’ve seen enough of how Narduzzi handles PRESSURE.

Comment by PittofDreams 09.29.18 @ 5:52 pm

narduzzi has to go. replace with a young hc. brown from troy.
is there anyone that still thinks pickett is the qb of the future. most of his plays are designed roll out to disguise his weak arm, and is very difficult to be accurate when your bakc feet are not placed. he is too small physically to play at this level pitt is the only team that gave him belief they would look at him at QB.
Tow1n may be a head case, we don’t know, but we know he is physically better suited to play QB at Pitt

After all these years I just don’t care anymore. I don’t want to go to the game next week. Tired of getting beat over the head year after year. And I sit hear and see PSU, WVU keep winning and we put this crap on the field. I hope everyone bought their tickets for the ACC Championship game this year. What a joke. 2 and 10 anyone.

Comment by jp 09.29.18 @ 8:13 pm

Syracuse will beat the hell out of Pitt next week.
We will all ( if we go to the game ) be booing the entire game.

Comment by Pitt Dreamer 09.29.18 @ 11:14 pm

This guy is history, present recruits will be dropping off, present ones will be transferring. This team has already lost faith in their coaches. What more will it take for him to approach the administration to negotiate a buyout. “Look I cant coach this team and bring it back, give me a buyout number and I will walk away”.

Comment by Pitt Dreamer 09.29.18 @ 11:18 pm

Fire Narduzzi and his great defense. Bring in a young rising coach and staff ala Majors 1. I cannot go through another Hart/Depasqua era.

I don’t believe I have ever called for a coach to be released mid-season but puhleeze…

Bring back Matt Canada.
