Conner Completes Crushing Cancer

Treatments finished. Cancer, beaten.

Statement from Pitt football coach Pat Narduzzi.

“Over the past six months, James Conner fought cancer the same way he plays football: relentlessly and without surrender. He has inspired and touched so many people in how he has handled this challenge. James is an incredibly special person, and I’m not even thinking about his football ability when I say that. Everyone at Pitt feels blessed to know him and we are tremendously thankful for the wonderful news he received today.”

Don’t care how crappy work was. It is a good day.

Sweet Jesus! That is great news Chas…

Thanks for sharing the cheerful and joyous report.

Football aside, this young man has lead a tremendous life already. Look out world, James Conner is back and ready to roll.

We can only imagine what the future may hold.

An outcome that was never in doubt given James’ courage and faith. And while the question of whether he would ever suit up for another Pitt football game was totally unimportant to me and the rest of the Blather faithful, I do believe that it served as motivation to him. Being able to practice with his teammates while still undergoing cancer treatments had to help him get through the tougher days. Kudos to his teammates and coaches for helping him through what had to be rough times. He always showed courage in public, but privately I’m sure that it was more difficult than any of us will ever know. I look forward to being at Heinz in September to take part in the loudest ovation for a Pitt player that any of us have ever seen or heard.

God Bless you James, fuck you cancer.

ESPN should show up for both the Villanova and Penn State games with the Conner story just getting started. Cancer was only closing the books on Chapter One. Chapters Two and Three are just waiting to be written.

My mother broke the tackle of the same form of cancer… twice! So I know how hard it is… Wonderful news for James and should be celebrated!

Can’t wait to see him breaking tackles again on the field… Should be easy, comparatively…

It will be an emotional day when James Conner returns to Heinz Field wearing a Pitt uniform, regardless of the style/color combination.

Pitt fans have been lacking with attendance support for the FB program and it has been well documented on here as well. Here’s hoping the city of Pittsburgh will show up to see a truely great person and tough fighter. Who knows, they may even get a glimpse of him in “beast mode”.

I know the pedo fans don’t want to see any of that (FB-wise) – Pitt just strengthened the depth chart at the RB position…

I actually cheered out loud when I read the news. Best feeling I’ve had in years over someone that I’ve never even met!

I can’t help but expect that such a feel good story has much more to come. The challenges laid before Conner over the past nine months would have brought many to their knees. James actually became stronger by struggling through that crucible of adversity.

As all cancer survivors can attest to, that victory over such a dire disease changes your perspective of your life going forward. Not that James Conner needed it. However, I’m pretty sure that Conner’s future will be positively impacted by these negative life events, initially having that season ending knee injury and his subsequent cancer diagnosis. Being able to draw from such success over these misfortunes, as he proceeds through his life, can only give him more resolve for finding his true life mission and then succeeding in it, whether that be through a football career or otherwise.

In that regard. Life has just dealt Pitt Football a wild card for this upcoming season. What an inspirational figure to have in a Pitt uniform come September 3rd. Conner has always had the making of a leader since he joined the Panthers. Now he has been knighted as that inspirational leader that leads by example and has been identified as the chosen one through his test by fire. I’m glad that he is on our side!

What a wonderful ending to this chapter of his life! James, all our prayers have been answered. You are such an inspiration to those who know you, but also to those who only know of you! Can’t wait to see what unfolds for you in the next chapter of your life.

Godspeed, young man.

This does put all of the fretting about uniforms and who Barnes chose as hoops coach in perspective.

Let’s ask Barnes to give away any unsold tickets to the Villanova game to cancer patients and survivors and all of the members of their families—and all of the docs and nurses and others who care for them. Fill Heinz Field.

Great idea pmdH2P!

My thought is there should be very few unsold tickets for that game. Pitt should have a grand celebration that day for Conner, the fans, the city and the team. Then, in response to all the hoopla, the team should then proceed to open a can of whoop-A$$ on nova to set the tone for an eventful and winning season.

HTP and life in general…

Fantastic news for James.I am thrilled to see a win over cancer because I have personally seen too many loses compared to wins.In addition to early detection, top treatment, strong faith with a positive attitude and of course youth James had all the right ingredients for this outcome.

Comment by Pitt60 05.24.16 @ 11:04 am

I was surprised that nary a reporter asked about his knee rehabilitation? Did the cancer cut back on his rehab effort? He has multiple issues going on here.

Comment by dhuffdaddy 05.24.16 @ 11:32 am

Erie can you imagine the emotions on Sep 3 when he charges out of the tunnel onto the field?! The roar will be unreal and there wont be a dry eye anywhere.

Very happy news and a true answer to prayer. Thank you Lord….and go get them James!

Comment by Jackagain 05.24.16 @ 3:35 pm

Thank you Lord, answered prayer, yes!!!!!

Comment by spiritofsection22 05.24.16 @ 4:03 pm

Nothing short of a miracle that James beat this, in such short order.

The young man had many praying for him, so perhaps the power of prayer and good thoughts for the young man worked some.

Good news indeed !

Comment by Emel 05.24.16 @ 6:45 pm

Pitt IT is – remember when The Bus came running out of the tunnel in Detroit for his last game, which happened to be the Suoer Bowl? Bettis thought he was leading his team onto the field and had no idea they let him run solo to a standing O.

That would be a cool scene on 9/3 at Heinz.
