Paris Ford Commits to Pitt

Safety Paris Ford has committed to Pitt according to Chris Peak of Panther Lair. The consensus four star prospect from Seton La Salle chose Pitt over offers from Michigan, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Michigan State, some school in Central PA surrounded by cows, and numerous other P5 schools.

According to Peak, Ford chose Pitt because he “wanted to show people that this ‘#412Crew’ movement can be serious if a big piece committed…[s]o I decided to be that piece.” While his relationship with Narduzzi and the coaches undoubtedly was the primary reason, it’s safe to say the high level play from the defense so far makes this decision a lot easier.

Ford is a great addition for Narduzzi and could be the start of a domino effect bringing numerous other WPIAL stars into the fold. Ford joins Exree Loe as the second commitment for the 2017 class.

That’s great to hear from him. Hopefully that adds some fuel to the fire to flip Sanders and bring on the rest of the guys.

Not just Paris Ford, Jeter set to announce after the Georgia Tech game tomorrow. This has the makings of a top ten class.

Comment by Chick 10.16.15 @ 11:51 am

Not binding till Feb 2017. Only 16 months to wait.

Comment by alcofan 10.16.15 @ 11:57 am

Early in the summer.. it was said that Paris and four-star ’17 Central Catholic LB David Adams would attend the same school. We shall see.

Comment by Mailman 10.16.15 @ 12:02 pm

Haven’t heard that about Jeter. My impression he was Pitt or PSU but would hold off any commitment. In any event Ford is a big recruit for various reasons. Narduzzi wanted the Pitt job for two reasons, he could recruit from a nice base and can sell the ACC to recruits that see a better chance to win.

Comment by Chethejet 10.16.15 @ 12:11 pm

Alcofan, I think we all understand it’s 16 months but these are the types of commitments we need so we aren’t all complaining in the summer about where we stand in the rankings for recruits. As someone posted before, more than stars or averages, it’s all about how many kids have you gotten a verbal from.

Comment by tedsptman 10.16.15 @ 12:13 pm

Does any of those “we’ll attend the same school” scenario actually come to fruition. I gusess the Claiton kinds two years ago but they all deserved scholarships in their own right.

I find it had to believe a player would turn down a great offer just because his buddy didn’t get one from the same school.

We keep hearing about these things but I can’t remember how the have turned out.

Comment by Reed 10.16.15 @ 12:21 pm

Jeter tweeted that he had a surprise in order; doesn’t necessarily mean he is committing.

5?God @JeteNificent34

Gotta surprise tomorrow night after the game…. #H2P ???

Chethejet. Go to Jeters Twitter account.

Comment by Chick 10.16.15 @ 12:21 pm

I think a whole bunch of recruits we’re always talking about have been either Pitt locks or real heavy Pitt leans for some time and have been keeping it under wraps… and the wraps are going to come off real soon.

They’re in this together this #412Crew business is real… makes me much less worried about them getting flipped.

Comment by deepelemblues 10.16.15 @ 12:22 pm

I think we land Jeter tomorrow as well. Some of the top D recruits are seeing what is happening with many of the same players on the field stepping up their game in 1 yr. Granted we still have a lot of work to do, but I think they are all getting on board the Narduzzi & Conklin train!

Now think Damar Hamlin is on the clock for the 2016 Class as I believe there was a lot of talk that they were gonna go to the same school. We shall see, but out D is looking bright!

If only we could have brought that TE Clark in. Lost him to ‘Cuse, but he’s going there to join friends. I guess I can’t blame him as we’re hoping the same thing happens with our recruits and the 412Crew movement.

Comment by rYm0 10.16.15 @ 12:25 pm

There is allegedly a wealth of WPIAL 2017 talent.

Ford, Wade, Adams, Jeter and a RB (can’t remember) who already 4-star on some sites .. and I’m sure there is more. If Pitt can keep most of these at home, it will be a big plus.

Dinucci’s replacement at Pine-Richland who is a soph QB (Phil Jurkovec) already has offers from Pitt and PSU … is allegedly scheduled to attend the ND-USC game tomorrow, so you know he is big time.

Awesome. The Pitt coaches know the “real” recruiting now begins with Ford.

Hope we sweep the board with all the big locals.

Comment by bj 10.16.15 @ 12:46 pm

as you will hear on ESPN at noon tomorrow “Not so fast” .. at least pertaining to Jeter

Tomorrow, Jeter as well as Lamont Wade (2017 DB from Clairton) and Khaliele Hudson (2016 DB/LB from McKeesport) will be visiting OSU-PSU game as guests of the Buckeyes.

Wbb, it wouldn’t surprise me if Wade and Hudson end up at PSU. Hudson still waiting on their offer. If Harbaugh swipes some of the PSU verbals, that might open a spot for Hudson.

Jeter will be at Pitt I believe.

Comment by Bj 10.16.15 @ 1:12 pm

The, there’s this from Dokish:

Four months ago elite Central Catholic MLB David Adams said he would 100% play where Ford plays. Should be interesting.
—————————–

Adams would be a major get if nothing else because he is an MLB. That and TE are 2 positions of need right now … although, of course, talent at any position are always welcome.

Comment by wbb 10.16.15 @ 1:36 pm

Hard to believe Jeter would announce Pitt after being at the PSU-Ohio St. game, no??

Comment by Dan 10.16.15 @ 1:36 pm

I look at this commit on it’s own.

Hell of a get.

If some others come along, fantastic, if not, the coaches need to just keep on workin’.

Great day for Pitt football.

Comment by Dan 10.16.15 @ 1:38 pm

I expect at least three flips from the nits and Hudson is a PSU lean for sure. But Pitt is still in the hunt. Jeter will be offered by all the biggies. Pitt however is strong with him. OSU will in all probability land Wade. Can’t get them all and Pitt is recruiting very well at his position. But you never know. I still think Sanders flips to Pitt. Franklin is a pimp, but until today I didn’t know it was Narduzzi all along.

Comment by Chethejet 10.16.15 @ 1:45 pm

They way I look at the sticking together thing is that, it probably starts out sincerely that way for kids. Not just this 412 crew.

Anywhere. Play on same team, meet at football camps, all-star games.

Suddenly you have 7-8 guys. “wouldn’t it be great to all go play together”.

Of course, who wouldn’t, that’s fun stuff.

Then, as time goes on, say a few months, one of the guys is hearing from his family and coaches, for your best interest, you need to go play for “xyz” assistant coordinator at “xyz” school.

Then one hears that, says, ya, I really liked coach “abc” at “abc” school.

Mom and Dad saying stay home, friends saying stay home, Uncle saying come down South, Grandpap says go here.

Next thing you know, all good intentions, but many end up going there separate way.

If we could get that crew to stay and play at Pitt or many of them, fantastic.

I myself would be happy if we could get one or two of them, would be huge for Pitt.

Comment by Dan 10.16.15 @ 1:52 pm

@@@@@@

We won’t get all of the local guys we never
have however there is no doubt PN
is the new sheriff in town. Momentum
in recruiting is driven by winning games.
Beast GT!!!!!!!

Comment by JR 10.16.15 @ 1:53 pm

I wonder if Franklin is flipping his you no what. I’m waiting for one of their assistants to post something dumb on Twitter again and be a NiTwit

“Hard to believe Jeter would announce Pitt after being at the PSU-Ohio St. game, no??
Comment by Dan 10.16.15 @ 1:36 pm”

Maybe Narduzzi isn’t above a little bit of recruiting one upsmanship himself. Jeter announcing Pitt after being at the OSU-PSU game would be a huge poke in the eye of Franklin.

Comment by deepelemblues 10.16.15 @ 2:26 pm

First and foremost, CONGRATULATIONS to Paris Ford and his family for making the right decision. They will still get the “chart your own path and make your own decision” speech from the other recruiters. What those recruiter’s don’t know is that these kids had a dream to play together for years and that they all are charting their own course and making solid decisions as young men.

One of my best decisions was to stay close to home and allow my family to watch me grow as an athlete and as a person. There is so much value in that. And to play with your friends makes it so much better.

I can see an ESPN 30/30 in 10 years with the Elite 11 and how this group of young men, led by Narduzzi, Conklin and Harley and JP, rose up in the 412 and put PITT back on the map!!! Congrats again, Mr. Ford.

Comment by dhuffdaddy 10.16.15 @ 5:06 pm

Ronnie Jones is killin’ it tonight against SV. I’m surprised he’s only a 2* guy and going to Toledo.

Comment by Jackagain 10.16.15 @ 7:04 pm

dhuff, APSOLUTELY! We realize when we’re older how important those things are. Even the pro-prospects who stay in school their senior year. Because the years you play in school are special. It’s a great time of life. Who wouldn’t love to experience college life again. Congrats to Paris and hail to Pitt. You’re going to place with a good staff, where you can make a difference and where things are on the rise.

Comment by Justinian 10.16.15 @ 7:06 pm

Narduzzi does more with less and he makes his players better. Just look at the difference with this year’s defense. People are seeing that Franklin may recruit well, but he hasn’t done so well once he gets them. Who would you rather play for?

Comment by Justinian 10.16.15 @ 7:13 pm

If a recruit has NFL aspirations (and who doesn’t), why not be coached by arguably the best defensive coaching staff in the country? Paris is a smart kid to take advantage of the opportunity.

Comment by 66Goat 10.16.15 @ 7:44 pm

Good point Goat, During the Walt Harris years Pitt was called Wide Receiver U.

Comment by Justinian 10.16.15 @ 7:56 pm

Great to get Paris in the fold. If he brings others even better. But he is a great get on his own and we’re excited to have him as a Panther. H2P!

Comment by longsufferingpittfan 10.16.15 @ 8:21 pm

Hell of a get! This young man has great skills. You have to love what is happening on the defensive side of the ball!!!!

Comment by Shawn 10.16.15 @ 9:20 pm

Was just poking around the historical “commitment list” info on the Rivals site and going back to 2003, we’ve only had one junior commit to (and sign with) Pitt prior to the completion of his junior season (Antwaun Reed committed in early November 2006 for class of 2008).

This is the first time possibly ever that we’ve had two juniors commit before their junior year season ended. Exree Loe is the first player in the last 13 years (possibly ever?!) to commit to Pitt before his junior year started.

As a point of comparison, Alabama has 8 commits for 2017 and averages 4-5 early commits every year.

Meaningless, maybe. Different? Absolutely.

CN-AZ

There is a different feel all around Pitt for the better. The other sports teams are winning (men & women). Our University is being promoted academically by our Chancellor on national TV during FB games. The new AD has a basketball background and the needed changes on the men’s BB team are being discussed.

And most importantly, expectations and goals are being raised – and are becoming believable. The front porch looks inviting again.

Today is a pivotal FB game towards winning a championship this year. When was the last time (prior to this year) we could say that? 2009? I remember thinking that thought over the past six years, but deep down not really believing it.

It’s a new era at our University – are you in?

All aboard the redemption tour train. There will be many stops along the way and you may board when you are ready. Today’s stop is at Bobby Dodd Stadium in Atlanta where our Pitt team will attempt to erase the “wreck” that we witnessed last year.

I believe the entertainment value of this game is high and worth your time. Sit back and relax while HCPN drives this train today.

HTP!

A landslide begins with one Boulder breaking loose to initiate the momentum.

AND SO IT BEGINS!
