Monday Morning Quarterbacking Vol 10

Filed under: Football — Reed @ 9:59 am

Monday Morning QB

(This is a weekly series of articles entitled “Monday Morning Quarterback”.   I will try to post them two days after the football games are played so as to have our wilder emotions under control by then.  It will be my take on the positives and the negatives we saw happen and a chance for commenters to agree or disagree and to add their own thoughts.)

When I started this I told myself that I’d never write something that I didn’t want to write so that is what in play here.  I didn’t watch the game.  I took a look at the box scores and watched the video highlights and that’s it – you guys can do the MMQB’ing this week if you feel like it.  I don’t have the energy or desire right now.

I’ll travel to PGH to see the SYR game and do one after that.…

POSITIVES

NEGATIVES

Ying & Yang

This is a special weekly section dedicated to the quarterback play of Chad Voytik so that we can look specifically at how he’s doing, whether he is progressing or not, and what his impact on the team and games are week to week at this point in the season.

@ Old Pitt Grad, thanks but no thanks on the Pitt driver head cover. Already have one.

The “nail on the head” appears to be the memo that I sent to HCPC at 3:38 today. Now if he would only listen to good advice.

What about Mike London as DC when he gets fired after this season? He is a solid DC and very good recruiter.

Comment by Shawn 11.17.14 @ 9:53 pm

positive:
season is almost over

negative:
we’re waisting the talents of boyd and conner

Comment by Keith 11.17.14 @ 11:07 pm

I like it Shawn! Good call! I live in VA and he is gone! London recruits the shit out of the region especially the Chesapeake region which is huge!

Comment by Sweet Caroline 11.17.14 @ 11:09 pm

Positives- just watching Conner and Boyd which is a pleasure! They are going to be Panthers that we write about in a couple of years that had “it!”

Negatives/positives- change has to happen! I hate I say it but a losing season will make change happen! In other places like Florida, it’s a 7 win season but for us it has to hit rock bottom before a change is made. Sad!

Wanny for AD!!!!!

Comment by Sweet Caroline 11.17.14 @ 11:13 pm

I would love Wannstadt for AD. No sure he would be able to handle all the other sports programs. Lets face it, most of Pitt athletics needs help. Plus we need varsity lacrosse in the ACC.

Also remember Nordenberg revamped a house close to campus. He was the one that really fired Wannstadt. Not sure new Admin could bring Wannstadt back considering the politics.
Hell, they named a dorm after Nordenberg!

Comment by Old Pitt Grad 11.17.14 @ 11:34 pm

Good points but I think Nordy trusted Corn Hole way too much and he pulled the trigger on Wanny! Ironic isn’t it that the reason for his firing was to take the program to the next level! Haven’t done so have we? And how he botched the whole thing. Saying Wanny was going to stay on as an assistant to the AD, but it never happened. The guy makes decisions with no plan in tack! He just assumes everyone was going to drive up to his office and hand him their resume. Didn’t happen! The fact that he was left out of the final decision says everything about him. Yeah Chryst wasn’t his guy but he was vetoed by the boosters! I mean, isn’t he the AD? In charge of the athletics program? Come on man! It’s a joke’ Nebraska fans are laughing! They called his firing the greatest day in Husker history in the last 20 years! That speaks volumes!

Comment by Sweet Caroline 11.18.14 @ 12:06 am

I know this will get laughed at but I would even ask Mark May if he is interested in AD job! His pinky finger is smarter than who we have in charge! He’s got to be sick of working with Holtz! Lol!

wbb — like the Gattuso idea, and not just for DC, how about HC? I think he won big at Duquesne or Rob Morris…forgot which one, or was that Joe Walton?

Or maybe, Gattuso as HC and DC, and bring back Walt as OC — at least they’ll look like they care and not keep saying the same dumb things after excruciating losses.

I like Chryst but am tired of him not getting angry and for losing all these tight games against not-all-that-great teams. Just seems the man lacks something critical for the top guy.

Comment by Matt N. 11.18.14 @ 12:34 am

…and for the nth time, like Voytik’s toughness and ability, but he just doesn’t come across as a guy who will improve dramatically from where he is — seems to lack ability to read defenses or check down — and looks like he’d be a better free safety next year, ala Rick Trocano.

Comment by Matt N. 11.18.14 @ 12:40 am

So if Chryst somehow manages to rally the troops and pull out two wins in our final games and get us to the crabshack bowl, do you keep him another year or two or fire him for all the horrific losses to so-so teams the past three years? My gut says fire him because he doesn’t show the gamer instinct or closing ability…he looks like he’d rather be an OC at Purdue or Illinois, or like his dad, HC at a D2 program in Wisconsin.

Comment by Matt N. 11.18.14 @ 12:46 am

…as Jerry Seinfeld might have said, ‘not that there’s anything wrong with that.’

Comment by Matt N. 11.18.14 @ 12:48 am

In an otherwise dismal and (another) disappointing season, congratulations and thank you to James Conner for a stellar year. I’ll stay tuned only to see you break Tony Dorsett’s records. And I hope – you deserve it, you have a big day against Miami on a national TV platform.
Congratulations also to TJ Clemmings on his continued rise. Not only a great year but watch who is first to a downed player to help him up – TJ. Congrats on the senior bowl!

Rally the troops?! We have NO DEFENSE. There’s nothing to rally.

WHy doesn’t House ever take questions from the media?

Comment by DocJLK 11.18.14 @ 10:55 am

Muschamp and Durkin would be great choices, but they won’t get them. They could have had Bradley as DC, but…..And I don’t want to hear about the PSU bit. The Bradley family has more class than most. The administration is clueless.

Comment by jack 11.18.14 @ 11:04 am

Reed who are these players that Chryst has in the pipeline ? Sounds like wishful thinking. The Syracuse game is scary. Luckily HC called timeout at the end of the game last year or the Orangemen and their fans would still be laughing as they enter Heinz field on Sat.
