Aaron Donald On All-ACC

The ACC announced their all-ACC teams today. No shock that Aaron Donald was on the first team squad. What I found mildly surprising was that he wasn’t a unanimous pick. The only unanimous pick was BC RB Andre Williams. Even FSU QB Jameis Winston or UNC TE Eric Ebron couldn’t get all unanimous picks. Rough crowd.

Tyler Boyd was second team All-ACC. Devin Street was on the third team. Offensive guard Matt Rotheram and safeties Jason Hendricks and Ray Vinopal were all honorable mention.

Talk about Southern bias to Northern teams. Just wait until basketball conference play.

Comment by TX Panther 12.02.13 @ 9:02 pm

Good to see Pitt mentioned on every level from 1st team to honorable mention. Good to see Vinopal get some attention given the amount of flack he has taken from the Pitt boosters (myself included)

Comment by Pitt Fan in Atlanta 12.02.13 @ 10:51 pm

off subject the ACC will take in abought 28 million
dollars from the bowl games this year from the 11 teams that made bowls that is over and above what espn pays us for tv rights, that is just from the bowl games.
the AAC you know the old big east will get abought 11 mllion from there 6 bowl teams just some info for you.

Good legwork Frankcan — yet another reason to feel good about the move. I like that we got some recognition from the new league with six guys getting props…thought Todd Thomas might get a nod but maybe that’ll pump him up, and others, for next year.

Curious to see what the freshman QBs look like next year but a real shame we can’t get Savage back for a second season…he really made strides during the year and showed a lot of grit and leadership. Don’t write off Anderson — he may be a factor in the QB derby.

Comment by Matt N. 12.03.13 @ 1:54 am

I’m still waiting for the Outland Trophy to be awarded to Aaron. That my friends is the recognition that he so rightly deserves! Not that ACC 1st team honors is chopped liver but, DUH, no brainer. And I was totally surprised that Winston didn’t get a unanimous vote in to 1st team! What other QB in the ACC got 1st team votes besides him?

Comment by Dr. Tom 12.03.13 @ 7:33 am

Big Pedo State game tonight. Those Nitters need to be humiliated. State Penn must go down. The heir of Poopy Pants must not rise.

Comment by TX Panther 12.03.13 @ 7:34 am

see that Rotheram got honorable mention with 22 votes. For anyone on that OL to get consideration must speak well of what other schools think of him. He returns next year.

Comment by wbb 12.03.13 @ 7:45 am

Penn State leads the hoop series 75-70. I guess they are a hoop school ??

Comment by alcofan 12.03.13 @ 7:54 am

Congrats to Aaron Donald!! I had the good fortune of seeing him play in high school as well as Pitt. I now look forward to seeing him play on Sundays.

Comment by Panther Pride 12.03.13 @ 8:08 am

Aaron Donald = AWESOME.

One of the hardest workers, nicest guys. Deserving of these honors. CONGRATS!

Can’t wait to see him in the NFL.

Comment by The TRUTH 12.03.13 @ 8:16 am

From what I saw of ACC quarterbacking this year, Savage deserved an honorable mention. Other than that, I think they got it about right.

Comment by Iron Duke 12.03.13 @ 8:37 am

Quick addition on the totals:

FL ST 17
MIAMI 11
VA TECH 11
NC 10
DUKE 10
PITT 6
SYR 6
GT 5
VA 4

NC and Duke had 4 first teamers each vs 3 of our 6 were honorable mention.

This breakdown supports my premise, that while our coaching may have flaws, the relative strength of our individual players does not support much better results on the field.

Congrats to all our guys that made the cut.

Comment by gc 12.03.13 @ 9:22 am

While I am a big Todd Thomas fan, he didn’t seem as impactful as the season went on. Solo tackles went down.

A little surprised that Savage didn’t get enough votes for Honorable mention. Probably because Winston and Boyd were far superior. He did well enough to put two of our guys on the list. Too bad Street didn’t make it through the season.

Comment by gc 12.03.13 @ 9:32 am

Thomas was off the field way too much for my taste. In fact, he didn’t even play the one game even though he was real healthy.

If you recall, in the 3-4 two years ago, he was a great rush OLB as a freshman. Yet, he wasn’t used in lieu of Durham and Murphy on pass situaions …. even though House claimed they practiced a lot at 3-4 in the preseason.

Comment by wbb 12.03.13 @ 9:48 am

Agreed wbb, never used him to blitz, because he was off the field on most passing downs. He didn’t look right to me in the last two games.

He still finished high on the list of Solo tackles.

Comment by gc 12.03.13 @ 10:13 am

Obviously some players overlooked.

Had Pitt eked out a couple of more wins such as Navy and North Carolina, no question that one or two more Pitt players would have been on the list somewhere.

Congrats to the players for getting noticed. But no reason for Thomas or Clemmings to hang their heads.

Without his record setting pace for sacks early in the season, Savage would have likely been mentioned too.

Pitt fans know how deserving they are. Maybe that helps, maybe not.

Comment by PittofDreams 12.03.13 @ 10:46 am

Aaron Donald deserves every accolade that comes his way. Hope there are more in the near future. What a great collegiate career.

Comment by longsufferingpittfan 12.03.13 @ 10:48 am

My biggest criticism of the House defense was taking Thomas out on third downs. He took his best weapon to sack and contain the QB and put him on the bench.

How many third down conversions would Thomas have stopped? We will never know, but I think it would have been more than a few and maybe enough to change the outcome of a game or two. Maybe enough to have gotten Thomas on the ACC list.

How many QB runs on third down were successful. Who was our best open field tackler? DUH!

Especially after Price went down. How many times did the QB have all day to throw on third down?

Dravon Henry to announce on Monday. Speculators
say he is going to WVU. Hope not we need him!

Congrats to Aaron Donald! On to the National Awards….
hoping for the Outland and a big fat contract from the NFL.

Comment by JR 12.03.13 @ 12:12 pm

95 percent sure Henry goes to WVU i think WVU will have 2 or 3 down years but what the hell we will to still he should have picked pitt.

Comment by Frankcan 12.03.13 @ 12:30 pm

off subject once more some info for you next year the ACC has 10 bowls but if we have 11 teams who can go to bowls we will have the same trouble geting every one to a bowl as we do this year

this is why the playoff next year changes there is
no BCS we have 2 in this year next year we might have one.

plus next year ND can bump one of are teams for a bowl spot.
this means we will be down 2 spots next year so if you are 6 and 6 next year you might not get in
so 7 and 5 might be the only way in next year
we only get in this year becuse outher conference cant fill all there bowl spots that might not happen next year.

Comment by Frankcan 12.03.13 @ 12:44 pm

Henry, McKenzie, Bookser, Nicholsen, Kamara and Jenning all have Pitt on final list. All are 4 star on many lists.

Comment by wbb 12.03.13 @ 1:05 pm

Wbb true but Mckenzies mother lives in Atlanta Ga
and he goes for a vist to Ga Tec soon.
and Kamara really likes wisconsin.
Henry is going to WVU.
Nicholsen is are best bet he has allways liked pitt
Bookser is 85 percent for pitt but i think he could have his head turned bye a slick sales men
he seams to be a on and off kind of fellow .

Comment by Frankcan 12.03.13 @ 1:23 pm

Don’t count on McKenzie.

Comment by PittofDreams 12.03.13 @ 3:06 pm

Frankcan, all I said that Pitt is on their final list … I have no idea the probability of any of them going to Pitt. I did read where most predict Henry is headed to WVU.

I would love for them to get Henry, but if they just get Nicholsen, one of the 2 WRs, and Bookser, I’m happy … beggars can’t be choosers

Comment by wbb 12.03.13 @ 3:45 pm

Wbb true i was just passing on info i was not trying to step on your toes i knew what you meant
sorry you took it wrong.
i would not make you mad on purpose you are the man of reason. are we ok bud

Comment by Frankcan 12.03.13 @ 6:02 pm

Can’t imagine why any local kids picking WVU with the Big 12 and the fiasco they had down there this year, but hey if he does, there must be a good reason.

I’d love to know the percentage of snaps for which Todd Thomas was on the field. I saw him running off the field after almost every first down. Sorry, that’s just wrong. Figure out how to use one of the most athletic kids on the team.

Comment by Iron Duke 12.03.13 @ 7:27 pm

He = Dravon

Comment by Iron Duke 12.03.13 @ 7:39 pm

Looks like Henry and Fields to WVU. This is a major blow to recruiting any way you slice it. I doubt we end up with Bookser, Kamara, or McKenzie. I’m sorry but you can’t win in a major conf. Without major talent.

Comment by Shawn 12.03.13 @ 7:47 pm

if we lose to penn state in basketball i am done with pitt sports for several weeks.
i am goin on a drunk so they better pull it out in the second half.
how much shit can a pitt fan take lose to penn state noooooooo. i cant stand it.

Comment by Frankcan 12.03.13 @ 8:44 pm

Shawn i know i was checking out the outher acc recruits in the outher schools and ares looks weak

Comment by Frankcan 12.03.13 @ 8:49 pm

thank god we won i hate penn state

Comment by Frankcan 12.03.13 @ 9:45 pm

I’ll throw out a few things I saw on twitter last night regarding recruiting. Take these for whatever they’re worth:

From Chris Dokish:

“Of the so-called WPIAL big 4 I’d be surprised if Pitt didn’t get at least 2 and would not be shocked if they got all 4.”

“Dravon Henry’s mom wants him to go to Pitt so it seems strange that he would announce for WVU on her birthday.”

“The only prediction of a top prospect that I remember missing was Foster & I was right until day he announced. But still no clue on Henry.”

From Adam Friedman at Rivals (@RivalsFriedman):

“The 5 most important (for Pitt): Yes on Nicholson & McKenzie. 60/40 for #Pitt on Henry & Bookser. No on Kamara.”

“That OhioState OV for Bookser is big. I think McKenzie is done with recruiting & knows he wants to stay home.”
