Pack Kelly’s

If you live in the Philly area and/or are planning to go to the Pitt-Nova game on Saturday, you need to go to the Official Pitt Alumni Game Watch at Kelly’s. Or at least stop by and have a beer.

Normally I don’t go out of my way to promote these, but I have to make an exception when the Nova Blog is treating this as a treasonous act. Apparently the fact that the owner is a Nova alum makes it worse. The bar, also happens to be the closest bar to the campus, so by extension to the Pavilion.

Show up, take over the place, and make the economic impact that can only make it worse for the Nova kids.

I’ll be there with a couple others pre-game. Thanks for the heads up.

My God, what horses**t. This simply illustrates the difference between “the city with a chip on its shoulder” and an honest sports town like Pittsburgh.

Can you imagine a Pitt fan wearing down his finger tips blogging upon hearing that Nova fans grabbed a bar in Oakland? No way. Ho f’n hum.

Let me clarify there’s a huge difference between “Philadelphia” and “Villanova.” Being from the Main Line (Wikipedia it), I can tell you that while many Philadelphians are good sports fans, people that are Villanova fans are white bread douche bags who weren’t smart enough to go to Duke so they take it out on everybody else.

LOL

According to the same blog, the event is now cancelled. Of course, that could just be a stupid prank by someone who take sports way too seriously.

I’ve sent an e-mail to the Philly chapter to see what is happening. I will update accordingly.

Per Kelly’s website, Pitt fans aren’t welcome this weekend so one can safely assume that the game watch is a no go there:

[…] This post was mentioned on Twitter by Dennis Blanch, Chas Rich. Chas Rich said: Pitt fans need to pack a certain Villanova bar on Saturday to further piss-off Nova fans. link to bit.ly […]

David, thanks. It’s worth a read. This is really, really classless behavior.

Main line, shmainline, it’s all the city with a chip on its shoulder to me.

Before I didn’t care about the game’s outcome. Now I want to crush them just to see the look on their fans’ sweaty faces.

Comment by steve 02.09.11 @ 5:32 pm

Here’s an idea. Don’t spite a bar by giving them your money. Go where you are welcome and let capitalism do its thing. Douches will be douches, and Philly is the saddest douche in the whole douche hierarchy.

Comment by Karl Marx 02.09.11 @ 5:46 pm

Really disappointing behavior. Who gives a shit if there if are Pitt fans in the third floor of a bar near Villanova? I’ve traveled to many Pitt away games and it seems that unfortunately Bryn Mawr is closer to Morgantown than to South Bend in the way they treat visitors.

I’m disappointed for the people of the Pitt Alumni Chapter in Philly who spent time organizing something positive and had their plans thrown into disarray by some internet tough guy.

These Villymanilly d-bags are too much. And some of you want them playing football in the BigEast.
Shame on you.

May these Philly a-holes choke on a Pat’s or Gino’s cheesesteak.

Dear Chas,

Thanks for not being a flaming douchenozzle. Unlike other sports bloggers.

Comment by Brian in Brooklyn 02.09.11 @ 7:22 pm

They can’t legally keep Pitt fans out of any bar.
Someone should send an email to the Attorney Generals office and draw attention to this place so that they’ll get busted for serving minors, which they more than likely do.
In fact I have a cousin who is a Major in the State Police stationed over by Philly. He owes me a few favors, perhaps a State Patrol car stationed outside of this place would provide some crowd control.

Best game I’ve watched this season, ND v. L’ville. Great action, great analysis and Digger is even objective.

Fabulous, but I hope ND loses in OT.

Comment by steve 02.09.11 @ 8:58 pm

Hate to say it, Bray is good.

But ND is a team that doesn’t deserve to be in the Big East.

They’d be zero without the BE. Kick ’em out.

Figured I’d chime here since I’m in an interesting situation. I graduated from Pitt in May and now go to Villanova for grad school–don’t worry, I will be cheering for Pitt come Saturday and for the rest of my life. I even wore my Oakland Zoo shirt on campus today. I’m a Philly fan for pro sports so I’m not loving all the comments I’m seeing here, but hey, I understand.

As someone mentioned above, Philadelphia and Villanova aren’t necessarily the same thing, except when they want to be. Depending on who you’re talking to and what mood they’re in, Villanova is a Philly team or it’s some lame suburban school.

I’ve been to Kelly’s. It’s a nice place. I’d like to go there if they’ll have Pitt fans, but if not, it’s their loss. I’ll drink elsewhere.

Also, the Spurs are in town playing the Sixers on Friday night. So Philly area Pitt alumni, we’ve got a great chance to see Dejuan Blair in action.

What a finish in regulation, at Rutgers. RU shoots a three to tie Villanova, 76-all.

Let’s hope they go 3 OTs, and really tire all those Wildcats!

Comment by Lou 02.09.11 @ 10:06 pm

Lovin’ it, Lou. RU prevails.

Villanova goes down. Makes my night.

Comment by steve 02.09.11 @ 10:11 pm

Rutgers with a 3 and the foul…sinks the shot with 09.sec. Rutgers with a huge upset helps Pitt.
Rutgers was down 15 with 3 minutes left and 10 with 2 and change. Un f in believable…now that Pitt close game at the RAC doesn’t seem so bad.
Pitt can exorcize a lot of demon’s Saturday at 9.
I will be there@

Comment by Dan 72 02.09.11 @ 10:11 pm

Uh, excuse my last…apparently, Rutgers was fouled on their last three to tie it, then went and made the FT for the win.

Oh well…let’s hope the Wildcats are so severly depressed by the loss that they implode against Pitt!

Comment by Lou 02.09.11 @ 10:11 pm

Maybe I’m numb, but I never worried about our RU game.

Once RU’s fouls piled up at the beginning of the 2nd half it was over.

Comment by steve 02.09.11 @ 10:23 pm

So apparently the Pitt Game watch in the Philly area is now officially moved after Kelly’s freaked out.

Now at Fox & Hound in King of Prussia.

Comment by Jim 02.09.11 @ 11:04 pm

Typical Nova. Unintelligible and classless as always.

Comment by Brian R. 02.10.11 @ 10:36 am

Karl – FTR – The top of the douche hierachy is Keith Olberman. He is a perfect 10 on the douche-o-meter. Believe me, my friends and I have given this way too much thought and debate.

AS a lifetime resident of Conshohocken and a Pitt alumnis I hope we beat those Wildmutts by 150 points I will admit that I was rejected from VU as a senior in HS but I can assure you I didnt want to go to VillaNOFUN lol anyway going to Pitt was the best 3 years of my life (16 credits short of the full sheepskin) never say never!!
