New Hampshire-Pitt: Open Thread

Up really early to be in Pittsburgh for the game. Feel free to comment below on the day and game. I’ll be tweeting all day, including from whatever passes for tailgating with the present parking situation.

The game is on ESPN3.com where your internet provider offers it. Other wise look for 93.7 The Fan.

Aside from the missed FG, Hutchens has been money. Pitt has had some very good kickers in recent years.

Only 23 yards for Lewis so far.

Comment by steve 09.11.10 @ 3:34 pm

Glass half full, see Dion on the Quad next year?

Comment by steve 09.11.10 @ 3:35 pm

@steve – Glass half empty – Will our line solidify by that time? 😉

Comment by Dave in Orlando 09.11.10 @ 3:39 pm

And now Boise gets hosed because Va Tech forgot that there’s a game today.

Comment by maz. 09.11.10 @ 3:41 pm

Graham to the house. Sixty-plus yards. He has to start against Miami.

Comment by Dave in Orlando 09.11.10 @ 3:42 pm

We have some serious weapons. Shame about the state of our OL.

Comment by Panthoor 09.11.10 @ 3:43 pm

Wow 115 yards on 9 carries!

Good problem to have!

Comment by Dallas Panther 09.11.10 @ 3:43 pm

Central Joisey kid does good.

Comment by steve 09.11.10 @ 3:44 pm

Hey I saw Dickerson and James play at SMU in the early 80’s, they shared the backfield and were successful.

Comment by Dallas Panther 09.11.10 @ 3:44 pm

Now, Lewis was banged up apparently on the last play of regulation against Utah.

Hey, this is the largest crowd to ever watch NH play in their history!

Comment by Jimbo Covert's my Dad 09.11.10 @ 3:45 pm

I have never seen a punter kick it into the stands. See something new every day.

Comment by Dave in Orlando 09.11.10 @ 3:47 pm

Dave, life is like a box of chocolates.

Comment by Panthoor 09.11.10 @ 3:48 pm

I’m not saying bench Lewis, but there’s no doubt that Graham has been the more explosive and productive back in these first two games. You have to reward that.

Comment by Dave in Orlando 09.11.10 @ 3:49 pm

Sensory… again! The color guy says his name right, can’t he simply correct the play-by-play guy?

Comment by Jimbo Covert's my Dad 09.11.10 @ 3:50 pm

@Panthoor -Haha.
BTW – Jason Douglass now in the game at RB.

Comment by Dave in Orlando 09.11.10 @ 3:51 pm

The play-by-play guy must be dyslexic, he’s heard the PA guy pronounce SUNSERI a gazillion times

Comment by steve 09.11.10 @ 3:53 pm

Who the f— goes for it on 4th and 5+ and runs the ball?!

Comment by Jimbo Covert's my Dad 09.11.10 @ 3:53 pm

His own color guy has said it right steve.

Although I am enjoying calling him Tito Sensory.

Comment by Jimbo Covert's my Dad 09.11.10 @ 3:54 pm

How about we put someone on 86?

Comment by Dave in Orlando 09.11.10 @ 3:55 pm

@jimbo – In field goal range, no less. Think that was a sportsmanship move by Wanny.

Comment by Dave in Orlando 09.11.10 @ 3:56 pm

Miami and OSU is on now.

Biggest question of the game: Has Jacory Harris had anything to eat since last season? Seriously, he needs it.

Comment by Jimbo Covert's my Dad 09.11.10 @ 3:57 pm

Pitt second team defense looks disinterested.

Comment by Dave in Orlando 09.11.10 @ 3:57 pm

South Carolina just beat 22 Georgia by 11.

Perhaps we sneak back into the top 25 this week.

Comment by Jimbo Covert's my Dad 09.11.10 @ 3:58 pm

Who names his son “Tito Sensory”?

Comment by Panthoor 09.11.10 @ 3:59 pm

James Madison up on VT on the road with 2:30 to go, as well.

Comment by Dave in Orlando 09.11.10 @ 4:02 pm

The d-line dominated, the o-line is still a WIP, Lewis looks a step slow, Graham looks a step faster and Sunseri is coming along.

Comment by Dallas Panther 09.11.10 @ 4:02 pm

Garbage time TD for UNH throws me into a fit of rage.

Comment by Dave in Orlando 09.11.10 @ 4:02 pm

Chris Burns with the final carry. Panthers win 38-16. Hail to Pitt!

Comment by Dave in Orlando 09.11.10 @ 4:06 pm

P-I-T-T! LET’S GO PITT!!!

Tito Sensory with his first win as a starter!

Here’s hoping for a good week practice and health-wise for Dion and Romeus.

Now go pay attention to your families and friends for a couple hours, then watch ‘bama kick the crap out of PSUcks.

Comment by Jimbo Covert's my Dad 09.11.10 @ 4:09 pm

Sensory needs more time. You can see that he has the potential to do well. He has already lost a game due to a mistake so that is out of the way for him.

We have a battle at the RB spot. That’s very good news for everyone on that team, specially the OL.

Comment by Panthoor 09.11.10 @ 4:10 pm

It will be interesting to see the ratings this week. All 4 ACC teams get beat (VA Tech by JMU who is not as good as UNH)…side note – wouldn’t it be nice to have helmets that match the color of the pants and numbers?

Comment by mark 09.12.10 @ 10:31 am

Mark – good point about the ACC. It probably will not get as much media attention because it was not the first week of the year, but in my opinion, the ACC had a much worse weekend than the Big East had last week.

On to Miami – anyone hearing anything as to the extent of Jacobson’s injury?

Also, the post-game call in show in Pittsburgh (hosted by Filliponi) kept harping on how disrespectful it was of the coaches to only give Lewis 10 carries, with only 1 carry in the 2nd half. From being at the game, it sure looked like Lewis was pretty banged up. I’m guessing that they made the decision not to put him back in for the 4th quarter because it was clear that they didn’t need to do so and because he was hurt. Has anybody heard anything more about his condition?

Comment by Pantherman13 09.12.10 @ 2:34 pm

Aaron Berry intercepted a pass from Jay Cutler.

Nice!

Comment by Salgado 09.12.10 @ 3:00 pm

The notion of not giving Lewis carries in the second half being disrespectful is ridiculous. Lewis was in the game and had several catches. Ray Graham had a great half, but he didn’t get significantly more carries than Lewis. Not to mention everybody knows that Lewis is and will be the #1 back. The fact of the matter is we have another pretty good back on this team and if we can give Lewis a break and lighten his load its only going help us later in the year.

This is a prime example of the idiots in the media trying to make a story out of nothing.

Comment by TJ 09.12.10 @ 9:07 pm

Fillaponi wasn’t around Pgh last year. He would have known that Graham plays every 3rd series, which he did yesterday until the 4th quarter when the gamewas put out of reach … and Lewis got banged up late in the 3rd. The other thing that Fillaponi didn’t acknowledge was the short over the middle screens to Lewis … two of them (23 and 21 yds) were drive savers.

Comment by wbb 09.12.10 @ 9:14 pm

Dion Lewis took a hit and was hurting pretty bad according to reports. So let’s not get carried away with the attacks on Lewis or the coaching staff.

Comment by IronmanEE68 09.12.10 @ 9:19 pm

Just to be clear, Filliponi was not criticizing Lewis, but rather, the coaching staff. My impression was that he was either trying to stir up some type of controversy where none existed, or he had no idea what he was talking about (or both). Funny thing is that when a couple of callers brought up the injury angle, he dismissed them pretty quickly. Frankly, from watching the game, it seemed pretty clear that Lewis took at least 2 big hits (one on the first series) and on the sidelines appeared to be hurting. I have no problem with how the coaches handled him, and I can’t imagine he won’t get the bulk of the carries against Miami, provided he is healthy.

Anyone hear anything on Jacobson?

Comment by Pantherman13 09.12.10 @ 10:42 pm

This is the same Filloponi, I believe, who I heard saying recently that the press and fans are trying to “castrate” Ben Rothelisberger. Looks like he’s shooting to be the next Mark Madden. High aspirations, indeed… (full snark intended)
