Early Nike Uni Info

Filed under: Football — Chas @ 2:18 pm

Not sure why Pitt is not putting this info out there, but instead Miami has put out the Nike Press release in advance of tomorrow. Looks like they may have jumped the gun.

Ruben Brown will be presenting the Pitt uni. Here’s the basic description.

Pittsburgh: Notched Team Gold jersey numbers and stencil stripe on the helmet evoke steel I-beams in reference to Pittsburgh’s steel industry.

Reserving all judgment until I see it, but that sounds a lot like the iron beam Pitt logo.

They have info on all the other unis. Huggins is doing the intro on WVU. Wonder if he’ll entertain any questions on Joe Mazzula pissing in the street.

excuse my ignorance, but what is the “iron beam Pitt logo”?

I like the description of WVU hoopie uni’s – sh*t stain skid marks all over their bodies. couldnt bee more fitting.

If we’re going to sit around and discuss uniform designs all night tonight, maybe we should relocate to one of the more metrosexual bars in the city with a good deal on cosmos.

All I want to hear about is cracking skulls, kicking ass, and the dubious legal exploits of opposing BE coaches.

At least Mazzula did’t fall and hit his head!

Looks like Pitt and WVU will wear the jerseys for the Brawl this year.

Comment by tacocat 08.31.10 @ 3:49 pm

sure hope it looks better than I envision

Is Pitt wearing the throwback jerseys for the Miami game this year?

Comment by Pittman 08.31.10 @ 9:28 pm

Good Lord. I’ve just settled in to really liking the blue, the gold pants with the stripes, and I actually like the Collegiate Pitt block, still like the script better, but the block is very traditional and collegiate. Would rather have the mustard and blue, but, I have to say, Pitt really looks good………….now we’re changing again??? Is it a one time thing or special occasion?? Steve, there is something said about tradtion, and not just selling a few extra jerseys. I know, it’s Nike, blah, blah, blah. Alabama, Texas, Penn St, Nebraska, they seem to sell a few jerseys, no??? It’s little, it’s petty, but c’mon. And…..please tell me they aren’t going to look like Miama or Va. Tech with those idiotic stripes. Guess I’m just a tradition guy. Good grief!

its only for a game or two. its a special jersey Nike is doing for 10 teams…i wish they would look at the past from pitt for these jerseys and not the city of pgh, when i think steel, i think steelers, not Pitt…hope they get these right.

Comment by mike 09.01.10 @ 9:34 am

yeah, the unis are terrible… even trying to invoke “steel” themes… who is behind this nonsense

Comment by DeVanzo 09.01.10 @ 10:56 am

where are the pics at of these unis?

Comment by mike 09.01.10 @ 11:13 am

In case anyone needs the link:

Look slick in my book. Last time I looked, Pitt is located in the city of Pittsburgh, so the invoking of Pittsburgh past would be Pitt past. Plus, we are only 10 schools that Nike picked for these. Gotta be happy with that.

Comment by InRodWeTrust 09.01.10 @ 11:57 am

With due respect to the past, and many of my uncles and cousins, we don’t need any more steel imaging. Bad enough every Monday or Sunday night Steeler game starts off with showing a blast furnace, or that some people want to nickname the Consol Center the “Coal Pit”. Please, we are huge in technolgoy, medicine and education, ENOUGH. Ok, I feel better. Allright, I’ll give you one time you can wear that thing. I did go to the sight, actually not as bad as I though or could have been. Once I can deal with. Please tell me they are coming out tomorrow night with gold helmets, white jerseys, gold pants with the excellent stripes!! It’s called tradition, and we hopefully reclaim our place in the national spotlight in the next couple years, lets not be VA.Tech, Miami or Oregon who are absolutely horrendus. As I said above, Alabama, Penn St., Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas do just fine selling jerseys. Hey, not big deal, just an opionion killing some lunch time!!!

Comment by Dan 09.01.10 @ 12:22 pm

Regarding the past ,Dan. Pitt has NO uniform tradition or heritage !!! They have been every color of blue and gold known to mankind in the last 25 years alone. If you think the current pseudo Notre Dame /Navy style is traditional you haven’t been around long enough or are not very aware of the past !! Thank God Pitt is now a Nike team …at last we’ll have some marketing effort. Schools like Miami and Oregon generate 100’s of times what Pitt does in sales of their gear. USC and Texas probably a 1000 times more. Check Ebay some time and see how pathetic the listings are for Pitt gear. This is a major source of revenue for any NCAA school and we have been at the bottom forever.

Comment by jerry 09.01.10 @ 7:01 pm

Actually jerry, been around quite awhile. Nothing ever has been right at Pitt. There has been no consistency of anything for 40 years!!! I will tell you, that, in fact, the mustard gold and blue, and the Pitt script, were in fact a nationally known quantity in the 70’s and 80’s. Everyone in the country knew who Pitt was. I know what is traditional, it’s not changing uniforms every 3 years!!! Pretty simple actually. What I said, is they have a nice clean look now, and with the program ascending, this would be good time to keep things the same, and have some tradition. You really think the new nike uniform is going to generate tons of money. Pitt does not have enough fans, nor alumni to even worry about it. Major source, do have a site I could go to to see the actual budget, to see what slice of the pie jersey sales are?? Seriously, I’d like to check it out.

Comment by Dan 09.03.10 @ 12:55 am

Hey, why not change the colors too, how bout a couple days of crimson and vanilla??? How about putting Pittsburg on the jerseys, you know, no “h”!!! How about a nice chartreuse and lavender, the kids will like that. We haven’t been right since the good Dr. Bozik took over and de-emphasised sports. Does that give you and idea if I’ve been around???
