Open Thread: Georgetown-Pitt

As I wrote earlier. I’m on DVR delay. Kid has karate tonight and I’m stuck taking her.

Trying to keep the home winning streak alive. Georgetown has really looked like it is getting better further into the season. They were beaten by a ‘Nova team that is playing well and Scottie ‘effing Reynolds has been insane for the last couple games.

Should be a very good one. I’ll post thoughts later tonight after watching it.

anyone have a link to an online stream?

gtown 5 for 5 from 3

Game’s on ESPNU…Pitt is having difficulty with the Hoya’s D. Panthers can’t penetrate, can’t get good looks from outside. Though as I type, Gibbs just made 2 threes.

Can’t figure out Wanamaker: 0 points, BUT 7 rebounds, 5 assists and only 1 TO.

Comment by BigGuy 01.20.10 @ 7:59 pm

Gibbs decision making and shooting is awful tonight.

Comment by mike t 01.20.10 @ 8:31 pm

getting killed on these foul calls it seems… hope that turns around in the last segment of the game.

Comment by Greg in New Orleans 01.20.10 @ 8:38 pm

Gibbs can’t throw it in the ocean tonight.

Comment by mike t 01.20.10 @ 8:51 pm

one second on the playclock and give up a layup!

we deserve to lose to the better team tonight

Gibbs killed us, really forced shots especially in 1st half, and missed a few wide open 3s … but he was due for abda game as was the team

Sometimes you just get beat by a team that had more intensity than you. Thus the case tonight.
Horrible shooting night and rebounding. GT’s 2-3 zone seemed unsolvable.

We’ll get em again soon.

Hail to Pitt!

Gibbs 2-15 ouch. We lose.

Comment by alcofan 01.20.10 @ 9:02 pm

Maybe the minutes caught up to him a little tonight. His defense was on par with the O as he looked flat-footed, slow reacting, and missing his usual effort the entire night on D. Hopefully not playing until Sunday will help him get that back.

Tough loss in that they had every chance to win the game. To be honest, I keep thinking that they are going to get blown out one of these games against the upper echelon teams but they hung with a VERY good G-Town team just fine, proving that this team is very much for real. Just had a poor shooting night along with some atypical defensive breakdowns. Gibbs had a bad night – he’ll bounce back just fine. Let’s get the next three (all should be wins – SH, SJU, and SF). 8-1 going into WVU would look pretty darn good.

Good effort. Hung tough against a good team an off night. You’d like to take care of business at home, but I’m not that upset. We were not going to go undefeated in conference.
Thompson III made a good defensive adjustment on our simple pick play that created so many easy hoops early in the second half. Dixon didn’t have an answer.
Gibbs did look tired. Looked like he had even less lift on his shot than usual and they were coming out very flat.
We don’t match up well at all against Monroe and Vaughn. If there was a game that required McGhee and Taylor on the floor at the same time, this was it. We know that’s not going to happen, though.
Obviously, Wright killed us. Blew right by the perimeter defense and took advantage of some poor switches on picks. Not a great defensive game at all from the backcourt.
Oh well. Some warts exposed. Back to practice and hopefully some better performances in the near future.

yep, panthers didn’t have their A game tonight. que sera. gibbs’ shot did look flat tonight. need to get better/more minutes from woodall. nice to gil being more aggressive on offense.

damn, i effin hate losing to g’town !

Comment by scott 01.20.10 @ 9:58 pm

Losing sucks, but but if you take the last five games, all against good teams, to come out of it 4 and 1 is very acceptable. It just looked like Gtown was the more attacking team all night. We were just a half step behind. All in all, we have a very good team that will be fun to watch for the rest of the season.

Comment by HbgFrank 01.20.10 @ 10:13 pm

Never want to lose, but loved seeing Gilbert Brown decide that he was going to be aggressive. That one throw-down coming in from the left wing was freaking awesome and he was hitting his jump shots.

Gibbs was rushing his shots, even the open ones, in the second half. G’town totally got in his head. A few times, though, some fake pumps would have easily gotten him open shots, but again, they were blanketing him and he was rushing.

Wannamaker is a beast getting to the hoop. What this team really needs is for Dixon — and to some extent Wannamaker — to be more consistent from outside. Dixon’s jump shot just looks terrible. It’s never looked good, but the whole thing now just looks off. It’s making it too easy for defenses to focus on Gibbs.

Taylor’s foot work still has a long way to go.

Nevertheless, there was a chance to win this game if some shots fall, some bounces go their way

Oh, yeah, and the refs sucked. That one block on Brown should have been a charge, Wannamaker got his shoulder yanked down on one drive to the hoop, and there were several other really bad calls. McGee got away with one late in the game, but otherwise the calls were definitely not going our way.
