Open Thread: Pitt-UConn

Okay. Couldn’t get out of obligations that will keep me out until about 7:30. I’ll be on DVR delay. Hoping for a win. Posting later one way or another.

“Gibbs, Dixon and Wannamaker won this for us tonight.”

Bobby, don’t underestimate the value of McGhee. Without him, we lose tonight.

Big, Brown’s paying his dues for his indiscretions. Soon they will be paid up.

Comment by steve 01.13.10 @ 9:45 pm

Nasir is the buddy you always invite to your party because he always shows up, doesn’t drink your good booze, doesn’t hit on your old lady, and never breaks anything. Just don’t expect him to bring any hotties or be the life of the party.

Those Uconn minutes are telling. I once thought our guys were running out of gas, but they came alive in the final minutes. Uconn truly did run out of gas.

Conditioning and tough practice pays. AS does a credible bench.

That’s a hilarious comment, Pauly…I think you’re spot on!

Comment by Lou 01.13.10 @ 9:47 pm

steve, Brown is a great player to come off the bench. He doesn’t need time to warm up and get in the flow. BTW, I trust that you will be attending the Pitt brunch before the Seton Hall game.

Comment by BigGuy 01.13.10 @ 9:49 pm

I’d take 1 Nasir for 4 Gavin Edwardses in a heartbeat.

Comment by steve 01.13.10 @ 9:49 pm

I’ll say this again, Uconn players’ minutes tonight were 40 40 37 35 33

Nasir and Travon have their issues, and Dante is sporadic … but we need their minutes. UConn definetly wore down in the final minutes, and we continuing to run our offense and making them play defense for 30 seconds on most possesions attributed to that

Comment by wbb 01.13.10 @ 9:51 pm

Big, I’ll be there. You’ll spot me by my prized Nate Bailey Pitt script warmup I’ll be wearing.

Pitt should offer Dixon a lifetime contract as early as tomorrow morning. There is no need to ever have another coach as long as Jaime is around and wants to be at Pitt.

We are so lucky to have two coaches that are loyal, respected by their players, and run clean programs. Looking around at all these a-hole college football coaches out there gives new appreciation for a guy like DW. Guys like Brian Kelly and Lane Kiffin – no thanks. Its funny how their “dream job” is always their next job and the one that pays more. Cant wait to see what their next dream jobs are?

Comment by Coach Ditka 01.13.10 @ 9:56 pm

steve, look around for the ugliest guy with the best looking wife. That will be me.

Comment by BigGuy 01.13.10 @ 10:01 pm

Amen, Coach Ditka.

Could you ever imagine relaxing when a Pitt hoopster got on the line?

“The Panthers hit 17-of-20 foul shots, including six straight to close out the game.”

This was, and will be, a difference-maker.

Pitt really took advanatage of their long lay-off. Ive been critical of Dixon for being to stuck in his ways, but what I saw today has changed my mind. They ran a whole new offensive system, letting their guards come off screens and actually be a threat to score, not just run clock. So much more movement off the ball, and it gave the guys the ability to square up and be a threat to drive to the basket without much help there. I think this system fits this team perfectly. Good decision making will be important, but I really like this offense. With all the pub the defense gets, i really think Uconn had a hard time defending Pitt.
On another topic, was I just being a homer or was John Saunders ready to stand on the table and lead cheers for Uconn?

I’m getting old, Big, eyesight’s going, astigmitism as well. Better you stay home so I’m able to focus on her.

great night for Pitt … DeJuan has 27 pts and 21 reb … game going to OT

Comment by wbb 01.13.10 @ 10:33 pm

I’ll just say it…this is a Top 10 basketball team right now…What ten teams have a better resume with three straight wins over quality teams on the road?

Comment by HbgFrank 01.13.10 @ 10:57 pm

This team has certainly proved some stuff over these last 3 games. Unreal the level that Coach Dixon is having this crew playing at.
