Should Have Appealed To Their Greed

At the very least it would have given them more incentive in the second half.

The annual schwag list is out for the bowl games.

The Sugar Bowl looks like a winner: Sony, Apple, Trek, Garmin and Weber gift suit. Plus a watch, hat, laptop bag and a recliner(?).

The Meineke bowl has an ipod touch, speakers and $20 gift card or a Bose gift package along with a watch, duffel bag and a Commemorative Richard Petty Driving Experience photo.

Still better than Birmingham — cheap RCA camcorder and backpack — and the Gator — watch and sunglasses.

I’d take that Richard Petty driving experience! Imagine the adrenaline rush from going 150 mph on a banked track!

Richard Petty!!! Call me crazy, but I’m pretty sure we lost the game on purpose.

Comment by Jon C 12.07.09 @ 9:47 pm

I’d take iPod touch anyday.

And what college student in his right mind wouldn’t want a photograph of a funny looking white guy with a comically huge cowboy hat and a Wanny-esque mustach to go with it?

Oh, the irony of giving out NASCAR schwag in North Carolina. Why not give away some bass fishing equipment while we’re at it?

Of course, were there to be a bowl in Pittsburgh (Heinz Ketchup Bowl?), it would probably include WWF t-shirts from 1988, a Troy Palamalu wig and a Primanti sandwich – so no disrespect to the great state of NC.

My misspelling of “Polamalu” above is indefensible. I fear I must now leave PGH in a self-imposed exile.

Gents –

While I appreciate the thought of them next to Richard Petty as much as the next guy, I think JW has the right idea – they get to ride along in a car, and a photo to go along with that.

Not exactly the thrill of a picture of your team on the field at the Superdome, but something different, and better than a Fossil watch.

In the spirit of Christmas, WVU fans will be arranging rides to Charlotte for Pitt fans going to the Car Care Bowl. Many of the Pitt fans erroneously believed that losing to WVU “meant nothing” and made travel arrangements for Jacksonville. The WVU fans will drop off the Pitt fan contingent in Charlotte on their way down to Jacksonville. Considering the Pitt fan base, we’ll be using two Yugos and a Prius.

Congratulations WVU, for your wonderful season you get to play…….a team that doesn’t even have a winning record. The loss “meant nothing” because had Pitt not choked they would be in the BCS and regardless if they won or didn’t win the WVU game, WVU was going to the Gator Bowl. The Gator Bowl didn’t want Pitt because their fans aren’t dumb enough to pay money and travel to FL to watch their team play in a “bowl game” vs. a team with a .500 record. Have fun!

I gotta say, I love the trash talk with the WVU folks. I fear we’ll be getting a big dose of it once BE play starts. Then again, given the state of the front yards in WV, there’s plenty of trash for them to spew…

Comment by Carmen 12.08.09 @ 9:26 am

WVU82, do those yugos from your front yard have tires on them, or are you just riding down on the cement blocks? Seriously, congratulations on a great season and good luck in your bowl game!

Comment by Kurt 12.08.09 @ 9:54 am

No tires on the Yugo, but we might put one of the spare couches from the front porch on the back of a flatbed to save on hotel costs.

Comment by WVU82 12.08.09 @ 10:44 am

I guess there is some appeal to the WVU-FSU matchup, but it would have been much more interesting to me to have them play a top team from the ACC. In any case, I hope WVU crushes them, then leaves Florida in a trail of burning couches…

Comment by Pantherman13 12.08.09 @ 11:09 am

WVU82,
Considering you sleep in your yugo, you already saved on hotel costs!

Comment by Fletch 12.08.09 @ 11:32 am

Trust me, as a WVU fan, I’d much rather be playing Virginia Tech or Miami myself. It’s a lose lose situation, much like playing Marshall. If you win, it’s pretty ho-hum. If you lose, you just lost to a 6-6 ACC team that shouldn’t be in the bowl they are in. Throw that in with the fact that FSU will play their heart out for BB’s last game, and it’s a recipe that could make the Big East look bad.
Please beat the Tar Heels, btw. At least you don’t have to deal with that Nicks dude…that guy was GOOD.

Comment by JD 12.08.09 @ 12:51 pm

WVU82,
wait, you mean you still have a couple of couches left?? you fellas are really slipping! It would save on travel costs, for as little as these minor bowls pay out and for as many tickets Pederson will have to buy for a “sellout” we might even break even.

Comment by Kurt 12.08.09 @ 2:57 pm

WVU does make a good point abut winning the bowls. You may remember the bad image the BE got whe its top 2 teams lost last year, resulting in nobody being ranked in preseason Top 25.

On the other hand, who in the hell wants to spend Christmas in Charlotte ..or, for that matter, wants to take an all day drive on the day after just to get to the game on time? Once again, Pitt will be under-represented in abowl game but this time it is very justified to my way of thinking.
