Open Thread: Binghamton-Pitt

I’m on DVR delay to watch later. That means I have to enter social media deprivation.

I’ll be back after I watch with my thoughts. In the meantime, if you get to watch or go to the game. Please share.

First look at the Baby Panthers! Can’t wait!!!

They’re playing good defense and generally taking care of the basketball, which is what they’ll need to do to win games this year. They have some things to figure out offensively, though.

This team will go as far as the freshmen take them. We started McGhee and Robinson but I noticed that when Taylor, Miller and Patterson hit the floor we instantly looked better offensively.

Just got home. Nice lead.

Alright Ashton, save some for later in the season.

I have a spot spot for Nasir because he reminds me of one of my favorite Pitt players of all time (Jaron Brown), but damn…you gotta finish!

This is the perfect game for them. Playing a team down on their luck that has a hard time guarding anyone. Work on your follow through and inside game and build confidence for a tougher foe.

Gibbs 5-8 so far from behind the arc…and he missed the first two, not to mention he had one halfway down that rimmed out. That’s some kind of hot streak.

Still like to see someone make a play off the dribble. Dixon will help out a unch when back…

What’s up with Dante’s shot rotation…?

it was what I expected so far … lot of potential but very unpolished. I kind of cringe to think about next week’s game vs Texas if indeed they get past Wichita St whcih will be their first game away from the Pete.

I do like the schedule in that they gradually play better teams until Texas whcih is not so gradual.

Good win tonight. Thought Gibbs had a nice three ball. In order for this team to be real solid where going to have to push teams around undernith! I think our gaurds will be fine, but then again this was Binghtom. All in all a nice evening.

Taylor looks lost out there but I expected that. He is still learning and that’s encouraging. This team could very well lose to Wichita State and badly but if they learn from it then so be it. Our inside game is broken but hopefully they fix it before the Big East season.

You can’t judge them by this game. Binghamton is almost starting from the ground up and looked like tall children out there. This game served it’s purpose and to me it was for them to work on passing and shot selection.

I’m going to enjoy this season though. We get to see blatant development and the maturity of a group of kids that have a long way to go.

I’m very concerned early about the overwhelming reliance on the 3-ball–we saw against Wofford in the 1st half what happens when the shots aren;t falling. Need an inside presence badly, especially come Conference time. Hopefully Taylor will find his footing by then–he’ll be the key.

vs. #3 Texas on the 24th. Development is out the window

Actually, I think Taylor is coming along. He already moves better than McGhee, but needs to become more aggressive. They moved the ball better tonight than last Friday, but this team was not nearly as good as Wofford, so it’s hard to know what it means. They do seem to play hard, which is good.

Defense was also much better today. From my vantage point, the biggest concern right now is rebounding. They seem somewhat passive in this area. The guy who has the best nose for the ball appears to be Robinson, but I’d like to see everyone on the team really get after the boards.

These guys are a work in progress. Very raw still.

Wofford just won at Georgia, guess they might have a decent team after all.

is this the year of gary mcghee? he played like a madman possessed out there tonight.
