T.J. Clemmings may or may not have committed to Pitt last week. The confusion continues.

“I just told them I liked them but no commitment,” the 6-6, 263-pound Clemmings said by phone.

“I’m going to take my other visits first and if Pitt is supposed to be where it is, then I’ll be there.”

Clemmings said he plans to take his five officials in the fall, including possibly visiting Florida and Ohio State.

Okay, that seems to be rather clear. It’s right from Clemmings as opposed to from his HS coach like last time.

Or is it?

The story of Paterson (NJ) Paterson Catholic defensive end T.J. Clemmings‘s commitment to Pitt continued Monday when Clemmings was quoted online as saying that he did not commit to Pitt. But PantherLair.com spoke to Clemmings’ head coach, and he told a different story.

Unfortunately after that teaser and a headline that says he Clemmings is a Pitt commit, the story goes behind a paywall.

O000-kay. So now we have the coach who said he wasn’t committed maybe saying he’s committed (depending on what the story actually says), but the player is quoted as saying he’s uncommitted.

Right now, I don’t really care. It’s only the end of June. It’s not like teams interested in him aren’t still recruiting him. It’s nice to have him in the checked box of commits, but none of it is binding.

Still, it is a bit ridiculous.

I have a feeling that if Pitt has a really good year, wins the BE and into the BCS (as many have favored them to do), they will get their share of top recruits come Feb; if not, it could be another average recruiting class.

Meanwhile, here is an update from Trib-Review on D Taylor and Herrion who is meeting today for HC job.

Note that I was at the summer leaue games last night. While Taylor does need conditioning, he is not fat. He, Zanni, Miller, Patterson and Richardson all showed pretty god skills (Woodall wasn’t there) but it’s hard to excel since there were no set plays, and the game could be guard oriented much of the time. Sad to report that Brad still turns the ball over (driving too much in the lane 1 on 3) and Jerome and Gilbert are still missing jump shots … although, in fairness, all 3 had their share of good plays.

I think this story is pretty cut and dry — the kid probably fell in love with Pitt during his visit, verbally committed, then went home and had everyone in his ear telling him that he made a mistake and should consider a more “successful” program. It happens every year.

Any word on when the official announcement (with photos)that Pitt is moving to a Nike Sponsorship?

I am very interested to see what the jersey’s look like.

I said right after the story broke that he would never end up at Pitt and Im sticking with that.

W bill, I would love to believe Pitt could win the BE but unless Bill Stull is a different qb there is no chance. He is just aweful and that sun bowl performance was maybe one of the worst qb performances I’ve ever witnessed – nfl or college. My hope is that the new oc can help him improve and call a game that actually plays to his strengths – whatever they are.

Rich, CBS Sports and (I believe) CollegeFootball.com has Pitt picked as finishing No. 1 in BE this year. Those are the only two poll I’v seen thus far, but I do believe they are the top ranked BE team in a couple of pre-season polls.

There is every reason to believe that Cignetti offenses will be more productive than Cav’s, whose heart I believe was always in the NFL. And quit blaming Stull for everything …. by mid 2nd quarter in Sun Bowl, 3 normal starting OLs were out, and you may remember that Shady didn’t exactly have a good game either. There was a reason that a DL was the MVP of that game.

I believe that the Sporting News has also picked Pitt to win the BE this year.

Rich,

Clemmings’ coach has now said on record twice in the last day or so that TJ, his family, his coach, and Jeff Hafley are all on the same page and that TJ is committed to Pitt.

Hope he comes here – though I am not counting on it.
