UConn-Pitt. Thabeet-Blair. Price-Fields. Robinson-Young. Walker-Dixon. Adrien-Brown. And so it goes.

It’s time for the liveblog.

Let’s get it on!

Wanamaker is insane right now

give Brad his props — he played great

but SAM IS THE MAN

glad to see we can win a big game without great game from Blair (8&8)

Comment by w bill 03.07.09 @ 2:18 pm

Great win! Congrats and thank you Sam, Levance and Tyrell! Go WVU! That didn’t feel right…

Comment by Dave in Orlando 03.07.09 @ 2:20 pm

Many thanks, fellas.

i wonder if wann. will be considered for most the improved player of the year award. i think he’s made a case for it. but maybe effejuku gets it.

Comment by Gary 03.07.09 @ 2:32 pm

Antone at the game know who showed up besides Tom Droney, Epps, and Taylor? It would be nice if Payne, Gibbs, or Kryzyko(however you spell it) made it to the game as well. Great win……1 seed a lock now.

Comment by beanboy 03.07.09 @ 2:39 pm

Early on I thought CBS was showing some sort of Jim Burr reality show. Glad that didn’t last the entire game.

Comment by CalvinHobbes 03.07.09 @ 2:41 pm

Wow what a senior class. I’m going to miss Fields to Young. And counting Biggs’ tats.

Comment by Greg in New Orleans 03.07.09 @ 3:18 pm

31 from Sam Young. What a game! He was the difference maker. Thabeet starts out with 14 in the first half, 0 in the 2nd. I love these guys…

Comment by The Hagen 03.07.09 @ 3:32 pm

What a great conference! The season began with great anticipation. It did not disappoint. We have the BET and the NCAA tourney in which to look forward, but I am already feeling a little let down because the season is coming to an end. What an experience for the seniors!

Comment by BigGuy 03.07.09 @ 3:32 pm

This was the best pitt crowd i ever have witnessed…..the players really enjoyed it the last two games….so as ticket holders, lets build on this for the future….

Did anyone catch this before? A great article on Sam Young:

Sam Young played his last game in the Pete like… well… like it was his last game in the Pete!!

What a great way for our seniors to go out, beating #1 in convincing fashion.

Even when UConn cut the lead by 2, I knew there was no way Calhoun’s boys were getting out of there with the “w”, and I’m usually a very pessimistic fan.

Comment by Jimbo Covert's my dad 03.07.09 @ 4:18 pm

Sam young made himself a few million today. That was an unbelievable performance and the Pete was just awesome today. Great win. I love having a top 5 baketball program.

Comment by Omar 03.07.09 @ 4:30 pm

just like at Hartford when UConn had their largest lead with 7 minutes left, Pitt took over .. they just seem to have more heart than UConn

Last time, Bob Knight commented on Pitt’s mental toughness … I expect more of the same

Comment by w bill 03.07.09 @ 4:32 pm

What a great season this has been! Congrats to the seniors. I still remember seeing them as freshmen, and Sam and Tyrell have come a long way (although Levance seemed this good for four years).

I’m not the kind of Pitt fan that expects to cut down nets every year, but this team has got so many pieces in place. They’ve got the resilience and swagger to make it through a single elimination tournament. You could see that today when the number 1 team in the country came out of the locker room with a 12-0 comeback push and these Panthers just stopped them dead. I can’t wait to see them unleashed in the next weeks.

Comment by Bill 03.07.09 @ 5:15 pm

FYI – if you go to post-gazette.com and click Sports – Pitt and Big East link, there is a 2:30 video showing Tyrell, Fields and Young being introduced for senior honors — the crowd seemed really loud

Feilds is the general. Sams Nba draft stock went up today. And Biggs played his best game of the year. He played shutdown D all day today. When Blair went out of the game they didnt lose a step. Hats off to Biggs. Thabeet didnt have a basket in the second half. We kicked there asses today boys.Maybe the best game of the year. I cant think of any game all around better. GO PITT

Comment by buzz 03.07.09 @ 6:06 pm

Thank you, Tyrell, Sam and Levance for being PITT students and for the wonderful way you play the game.

It has been a pleasure from out here on the West Coast to be a PITT fan.

The game looked great on TV, good to see Jerome Lane at the game, and of course, his “Send it in, Jerome” highlight was shown!

Hail to PITT!

Just got back home (Harrisburg) and rode a wave euphoria the whole way down the Turnpike. What a game! The Pete was rockin’ and the team played great. Any recruits that were there had to be impressed by the atmosphere. First the first time in a long time I didn’t want to throttle Jum Burr after the game…of course Jim Calhoun would be a more than worthy substitute, he’s unbelieveable.

Comment by Jeff 03.07.09 @ 7:40 pm

Andy Katz has a nice peice on ESPN.com. Check it out. link to sports.espn.go.com

Comment by Tiger Paul 03.07.09 @ 8:23 pm

Just got back to Philly from the Pete. The place was electric and louder than any basketbal game I’ve ever attended. Louder than the BET finals I’ve attended. So glad I made th trip out for this one. See you at MSG next week and Dayton the week after.

Hail to Pitt

Comment by Tiger Paul 03.07.09 @ 8:52 pm

Well, WVU blew it even when we needed them to win…oh well, we’ll take the #2 seed in the BET, as long as it leads to a #! seed in the NCAAs. Let’s go Pitt!

Comment by merlin 03.07.09 @ 11:12 pm

The one time I root for WVU they sh*t the bed…NEVER AGAIN, WILL I COMMIT SUCH A SIN

Comment by Chris 03.07.09 @ 11:26 pm

Chris is right, it never pays to root for WV.

Comment by ChrisA 03.07.09 @ 11:42 pm

Ruaff blew the game with 3minutes left he had three turnovers that cost them seven points and they were down 5 in 10 seconds. Boy did Huggins rip him a new asshole when after the first stupid turnover he called timeout and screamed at Ruaff for the whole TO. The he goes out and turns it over twice more after getting his ass chewed. What a dunderhead. Ruaff cost us the Big East Championship

Comment by buzz 03.08.09 @ 10:40 am

I’m fairly certain that losing to Providence cost us the BE Championship.
