One Coaching Rumor Down

Hopefully this will take care of anymore “Dixon will leave for Cal” rumors.

Multiple sources told ESPN.com that Cal made an attempt to hire Dixon within 24 hours of firing Ben Braun. Dixon told the Bears he wanted to stay at Pitt.

Arizona State also tried to hire Dixon before Herb Sendek took the job in the spring of 2006.

There is a perception that Dixon wants to move back to the West Coast because he is from Santa Barbara and his wife is from Hawaii. In truth, he is not looking to get back there as his family thoroughly enjoys living in Pittsburgh.

That’s not to say he won’t still get a new extension and raise from Pitt.

UPDATE (11:29): Oh, and not that it was really an issue but TCU (Dixon’s alma mater) has apparently hired Jim Christian from Kent State.

Anyone else think Pitt would of faired better against Memphis than MSU has tonight thus far?

This game is a disaster right now. Figures Neitzel chooses to shoot lights out against us, but goes cold against Temple and Memphis…

Ryan, who cares and it doesn’t matter, MSU was the better team last week, period.

PSU beat MSU on feb 2nd; does that mean PSU would have crushed Pitt and given Memphis a game?

That’s why they play the game!!

I had a chance to see Bostick throw in person, his delivery still looks very long and slow with no noticeable change, if anyone else has a chance to see him drop a comment.

It still sucks that he couldn’t miss versus Pitt. Bad luck I guess.

Comment by Omar 03.29.08 @ 10:43 am

I don’t think it’s bad luck, Omar. Last night Mephis had a 6’6″ guy guarding him most of the time. It’s a hell of a lot more difficult to shoot over than than Ramon.

Yeah, I hate to agree, but I don’t think Neitzel’s night against us was “bad luck.” Remember, we’ve built this program on giving great players “bad luck” in the form of stifling defense, making them work when they’re on defense, etc. We weren’t physical enough with Neitzel, for one thing. I wish I could’ve seen us against Memphis too, but the fact is, we didn’t deserve to play them because Michigan State was the better team last Saturday, which is what mattered.

Look it might be easier to shoot over Ramon, but sometimes guys miss shots even when they are open. It happens in the NBA sometimes. Unfortunately that wasn’t in the cards last week. It’s too bad you guys won’t have Ramon to rag on nezt year. I wonder who the scapegoat is going to be. My guess is Wannamaker.

Comment by omar 03.29.08 @ 3:31 pm

Ironically I spent much of the MSU game imploring Dixon to spell Ramon with Wannamaker to put a fresher, bigger guy on Neitzel. Not because I thought Ramon was doing badly (especially in the first half) but the exertion on D chasing the guy ’round and ’round and ’round the court all night obviously made his offense suffer. Wannamaker could have at least spelled him for 5 minutes.

After Dixon got outcoached and Played by Izzo to slow the game up and not run. Pitt (Dixon) blew the game. Not the guys. We should have run Mich.St out of the gym with speed. They were lumbering big men on Mich.St. and Dixon got sucked in by Izzo in the papers days before the game saying we play the same style, deliberate slow offense. IF Dixon cant recuit FIRE him and Hire Shawn MILLER. Hey I like Dixon to but, show me the money.

Comment by Buzz 03.30.08 @ 8:24 pm

Hey Buzz,
You could at least spell Miller’s first name right if you’re going to try to be a know-it-all. Nice job. The rest of your point is ignorant as well.
