Levance Fields and Mike Cook had their first meeting with the media since their injuries. The local media isn’t saying much about the questions and such yet — after all they have to have something to put in the paper tomorrow.

Mike Cook is indeed looking to get a medical redshirt. He doesn’t expect to find out from the NCAA until after the season.

Levance Fields is very optimistic about how quickly he is healing. He expects to be back around Valentines Day.

If Fields’ projection is true, his first game back would be Feb. 15 at Marquette.

The initial projected date of return was March 1. By moving up his timetable, Fields could play in the final seven regular-season games before the Big East tournament.

“If everything goes as planned I’ll be back before you know it,” Fields said.

That would give him time to be worked back in. To slowly get himself back into playing shape over the final 7 games.  Then carry things into the Big East Tournament.
If you missed the Ray Fittipaldo chat, there was a suggestion of a nickname for DeJuan Blair.

Blaznasty: Blair needs a nickname … “Grizzly Blair”?

Ray Fittipaldo: I saw that Dick “Hoops” Weiss from the New York Daily News wrote that in his Pitt-Georgetown game story Tuesday morning. We’ll have to see if it sticks.

I don’t know if Weiss intended it as a nickname, but I have to admit I like it. It was the final line of Weiss’ story.

“We weren’t going to lose in our house,” the grizzly Blair said.

I also like that Fittipaldo knew where it came from. It works.

There were two kids at the OK State game with a “Grizzly Blair” poster of DeJuan’s head on a bear’s body. That was the first time I saw or heard anything involving that nickname, but it’s certainly a good one.

Merlin,
I saw the same sign at the OK State game.

Hail to Pitt

I don’t think the name works that well…what are we going to call him, “Grizzly”? Doesn’t sound like “big baby” or “the answer” or any other name like that…

And your site is broke again for the 75% of people that use IE…somewhere in the middle of the “Holley” post…

“Grizzly Blair”??? Dont like it. IN fact, I think it sucks. I got a crazy idea…lets call him by his name.

I heard someone call him “Grizzly Blair” about a month ago when I was up in Pittsburgh.

I like it. It’s kind of both badass (I mean, a grizzly bear is a pretty badass animal) AND humorous.

OT, but why is anybody using IE still? Firefox is far more user friendly and safer. Catch up with the times people.

They’ve used Grizzly Blair often on the radio broadcast. They’ve nearly killed it, using it so much. I’m sure they picked it up at the Ok State game.

I like Grizzly Bear.

Where is Dr Jim to give us his opinion on Fields return?

IE? I fear change…i know how the preferences are stored for IE for each different user on a computer, i haven’t had time to research how its done on firefox. its installed on one computer (so i can check to see how a site shows up on it_ but i still stick with that which i understand, and i see what 75% of people see…

When Levance returns i believe dixon will at first not upset the chemistry if things are well…there is that old addage that starters dont lose their position in the lineup to injury, and i do think that is the case here, but dixon will use him off the bench to get him back in game shape and used to the tempo of the game. but when crunch time comes he will be in the linup and brown will go to the bench, they will play with a smaller lineup, and as said in a previous post, dixon loves his seniors. and i have to admit i was not a huge benjamin fan for a long time, i thought he was a selfish player (along with cook) and as a result turned the ball over. His over penetration and shot selection had left alot to be desired. BUT NOW, he is playing fantastic. Most of the time he lets the game come to him, i believe he now knows his minutes are not limited and has plenty of time to score. I expected young, blair, brown, ramon to do their thing, but it is benjamin who has most impressed…..Beating Duke has made the season for me, but it would be great to get past the sweet sixteen.
