Had a great time up at Michigan State last week. Came home to a broken computer as well as the real world hitting me pretty hard. Right now we’re at 3 hours away from the Pitt-UConn kickoff — AIS time in 10 minutes.
Lot’s of good college football today and an amazing upset of Syracuse over Louisville. For the record, here are my Big East picks this week (which I wrote down yesterday…winners only):
WVU, Louisville (aw damn), South Florida, Pitt, Cincinnati
How about today’s Pitt game though — you might remember the Huskies QB last year who gave us hell, DJ Hernandez. This year he’s at WR with juco transfer Tyler Lorenzen under center.
Wanny on the new QB:
“They have changed up things on offense,” Wannstedt said. “I think they are throwing the ball a little bit more, and they have a new starting quarterback from a year ago.”
Finally, some Terrelle Pryor news –his high school coach told ESPN that he has seven school in mind.
Florida, Ohio State, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas, and West Virginia. Additionally, Pittsburgh, which had been previously eliminated from contention, is back in the mix.
Maybe he sees himself running the Wildcat offense?
I don’t see how OSU and PSU are in the mix…the others make sense…someone explain how he fits in their systems or how they’re going to change their whole playbook…
1. It’s not the last we’ve seen of the Wildcat offense.
2. Some new options are also in the works that should take advantage of the playmakers on offense. Wannstedt is about winning games this year and to do that, Zeise said the coaches understand they may have to take some unconventional approaches.
3. This spread-option offense may be something that rears its head somewhat frequently here for the rest of this year and in future seasons. Wannstedt wants to install that power running game, but doesn’t really have the linemen suited to run it at a dominant level at this point. Perhaps in a year or two, it gets to that point, but for right now, the o-line may be more suited to run something like these spread options.
So stay tuned with this, I guess…either way, it has to be a reason why Pryor has decided to put Pitt back on his list. I like more conventional offenses as well, but in college football today, the emphasis seems to be on scoring points and these more gimmicky offenses are certainly geared to that.
Anyone see the Syracuse game? I missed and I wasn’t sure how the hell they went about stopping that offense. I thought I heard that Brohm threw like four INTs, but I wasn’t sure.
You know, for all the crap that PSU fans like to give Big East teams because of the high-powered, not-so-defensive styles of some of their marquee teams, that Syracuse-Louisville game was a hell of a lot more entertaining than this garbage going on at the Big House.
I like how they call it “good defense” in the big televen but anywhere else it would be called “poor offense.” Run, run, incomplete, punt?
You’re welcome BTW. May Morelli bless you with many more wonderful games.
Hail to Pitt.
We haven’t made a first down since Grambling.
We’re already down 10.
Whats the fucking point of us being on the field right now? This can’t be anythign more than a glorified scrimage. Put in some different QBs - the retard freshman, anyone else who played in HS, anyone. Some kid from the stands. There is no point in having that retard bumble around back there. Is he fucking related to Morelli?
He can’t even complete a screen pass.
it should be on here http://www.wwsw.com/main.html
Still no 3rd down conversions.
3 and out. Punt. Uconn has 11 in the box. Wildcat ain’t going to do shit when they know what is going to happen.
At least PSU lost.
Another fucking running QB taking it to us.
Smith sucks ass.
I’m pissed.
I’m going to shoot myself in the fucking head.
First downs should count as first down so that long run by Shady last week should have been a first down also.
Still sucks but just to be factual.
Who’s the color guy?
One good thing about living in Tampa, we get ESPNU.
Bad thing: USF “fans” jumping out of the woodwork left and right.
http://www.970theburgh.com/main.html
The color guy on the U is Mike Gottfried.
Luckily got the U tonight though.
The Shady McCoy Panthers 7
Shady 7 you mean…
whose mocking psu? from what I read, everyone is talking shit on pitt.
But for all psu fans, Morelli will not take you to the promised land.
Sorry bud, considering how much shit you talk at BSD, it’s just hilarious when Pitt can’t beat one of the worst teams in the country. Believe me, I’d love to play Pitt so we could shut cocky and delusional ones (like yourself) up.
do you think JoePa will retire this year? DEPENDS….
Stuart, stop getting mad just because you talk all the shit in the world on PSU, and then Pitt craps the bed. Call it just desserts.
Fuck it I’m pissed.
But why are they here after a loss to take out their frustration on us.
Jesus guys we OBVIOUSLY have our own shit to worry about!
But yeah, PSU and Morelli blow. Oh well.
Sit smith. Bring Bostick in NOW
BTW, I’d like to refer to the discussion last weekend where everyone was all over my ass cause I said we weren’t beating Uconn or anyone else for that matter with this QB. You could see this train wreck a mile away.
Care to admit your mistakes?
Shit.. we got a nice group of recruit present and we do this. This is sad. Sit smith and lets start the bostick future now
i can no longer tolerate the bullshit, if i ran my business like the way this team is ran i would be in the streets and homeless.
sorry guys but i am at the end of the road with our coaches
Omar: “We will beat UCONN by 20+ points. No question. The defense is legit.”
Jon C: “Holy F’n Sht, Stuart. Do you really think we are going to need a miracle to beat UConn?
We will stomp Uconn and Virginia. Both of them are bad….real bad. Sorry I don’t have an hour to write a 2 page explanation to back that up.”
His redshirt was already foolishly burnt, so we may as well get some use out of the guy.
And if this season is a disaster, Rhodes’ ass is grass.
If next season is another disaster, Wannstedt will probably be next.
I was initially happy that I had ESPNU so I could watch this game. Now I’d trade it for NFL Network.
This is one of the most disheartening games I’ve ever seen.
After last week it seemed like we were on the verge of turning a big corner. This week we look awfull. Sometimes the past few years when I watch this Pitt team I think that I’ve never seen a worse football team in my life.
Regardless, they need to play him. Smith is never going to be anything to us. Never. Play the kid who is going to play after Stull is gone. IT CAN’T GET ANY FUCKING WORSE - put the fucking kid in there. I don’t give a shit if he throws 20 interceptions - who fucking cares? This shit is over with anyways. I don’t care if we lose 100-7. Get the future some experience. AM I FUCKING CLEAR?
TEMPLE IS BETTER THAN PITT
TEMPLE IS BETTER THAN PITT
TEMPLE IS BETTER THAN PITT
TEMPLE IS BETTER THAN PITT
It’s true let it sink in. I can’t watch the rest. Doesn’t really matter if we win, because the season is over.
If any of you don’t think our horrific O is weighing on our D, you’re insane. I’m sure in the back of all of their heads they’re saying “why the fuck should i be out here killing myself….”
Listen, we’re not winning a game until Stull is back. Lets make the best of a horrible situation, instead of blaming the coaches or the players. Smith is terrible. It is what it is. Don’t just go out there and waste another half of football in their lives.
Same DW!!!
Utterly disgraceful we should be getting blown out bt UCONN.
No adjustments at all…
Doesn’t matter whether Pryor or the second coming of Dorset may come…DW cannot coach…
I’ll sacrifice my 3 children if it takes it to get him here. Hey is CYS listening?
Hey Bostick, welcome to Pitt’s Oline: sack.
Syracuse beat Louisville today. That officially makes us the worst.
In 2005 only WVU and the incoming Louisville were the only teams that were clear-cut ahead of us in the conference.
Then Rutgers passes us up. Then South Florida (a team that was 1AA less than half-a-decade earlier) passes us. Then, even though they haven’t really beaten us, Cincinatti passes us up in terms of success.
UConn, another recent 1AA call-up, has taken 3 of 4 from us in BE play.
Now ‘cuse beats a ranked team. So they’ve officially passed us. Were dead fucking last.
To recep, a former laughingstock of the NCAA for 3 decades, Rutgers. Not one, but TWO teams that were just recently in 1AA (USF and UConn). Two C-USA holdovers (Louisville and Cincy). AND a current NCAA laughingstock (’cuse).
ALL have officially blown by us in our conference.
In a few weeks we’re back on track for next year being good. Remember PSU was like 4-7 before they went 11-1. We can turn this around - we’ve just had terrible luck.
But right now, yes, our team might not win a DIAA game.
Unfortunately, Wannstedt needs to bring in coaches that can coach these talented players.
In order to do this there are two people he needs to fire, Rhodes, and himself.
OMFG A FUCKGIN TOUCHDOWN1!!?!!1!!!
And now he gets another drive.
I still don’t have much hope for next week. We should be 14 point dogs.
Wow dude, do you think you could post without swearing every other sentence?
Let the bashing begin.
You have to go with Bostick until Stull is back.
But I can coach…and know how to prepare a team to play and know when another coach cannot.
Dw cannot…I wish is was not so…not a nicer individual have I ever met…and a great recruiter…but so was Dave Hart…and Foge Fazio.
Some are just not cut out to be head coaches. Randy Edsell is…he has outcoached and outprepared DW 3/4 times.
So tired of losing to inferior teams…Stuart ..
keep it coming…!!
What do you want from him? Seriously? You complain, but I don’t know what you can ask for from a true freshman that misses part of camp and a plain dumbass retard QB. I still don’t see how this is Wannstedts fault.
ND has more talent than us…and their freshman QB can’t do shit either. I guess every coach is terrible except for Carroll and Meyer (until they lose a game).
Through the grapevine I heard that the reason Bostick left TC early was because of disputes with the coaching staff. If that’s the true reason (and not a suicide attempt, as someone here eloquently put it), then that’s just par for the course with this coaching staff playing favorites. I mean, with Wannstedt it’s often the less-talented players getting the reps in front of the better players unless they get injured or just really suck. Which is why Wanny had the Fiedler/Feeley drama in 2004 and Mirer/Kramer drama in 1997.
Dan 72, I’m beginning to like your thinking. You’re probably the first Pitt fan I know who doesn’t have his head up Wanny’s ass.
Smith clearly didn’t deserve to play after last week. Either go with Bostick or go all the way with the Arkansas Thingie.
OL sunk to the occasion once again, couldn’t open holes against a terrible DL.
Defense regressed. Absolutely no QB pressure and no change in scheme. Once again a terrible, slow, white, dullard QB ran for nearly 100 and hit the same slant pass in front of the DBs playing 30 yards off the LOS. Rhoads is the real reason this game was lost.
I’m trying to keep the faith, and understand we’ve been on the short end of some tough breaks this year, but tonight’s game was embarrassing.
It doesn’t take a fifth-year senior to make smart decisions or hold onto the ball. A Division I quarterback, freshman or not, should be able to throw a screen pass. A team with supposed top-25 recruiting classes should be able to compete with a fledgling UConn program instead of getting embarrassed three times in four years (twice under the current staff).
We’ll undoubtedly hear the usual excuses about injuries, inexperience and the need for patience this week. I was on board with that prior to tonight’s performance. But I’m over it now. I think the staff failed to prepare the team for this game. It’s time for them to face some real criticism. Not being competitive with UConn - from the opening whistle - is inexcusable.
I’d be surprised if we win more than four games this year. Syracuse and Navy look like the only potential victories left on the slate. Virginia. Louisville, Rutgers, South Florida and West Virginia appear to be near certain losses if we continue playing like we are now.
There was a lot of moaning about scheduling all these cream-puff opponents at home this year. Who were we calling cream-puffs?
Did any of you watch the game last week? What were you people expecting? You need to be realistic with the situation. This was an obvious loss with Smith. The problem is Bostick wasn’t ready yet either. He plays and its a loss too. There was no reason to completely throw the game starting Bostick. The only hope we had was starting Smith and pray he performed more like the Grambling game. It didn’t pan out…so we go to Bostick and have him throw 3 INTs.
Do you people see whats going on at ND? They have more skill at every position, and are worse than us. Their amazing frosh QB stinks the joint out too. You have to realize the situation you’re in and then set expectations.
Relax until Stull gets back. Its unfortunate that we suffered so many injuries and its destroying our season, but there is nothing we or the coaching staff can do. We’re going to lose 1 or 2 more games, depending when he returns. Oh well. Maybe we win 1 or 2 later we’re not supposed to.
And the “great” D everyone else was talking about last week didn’t materialize. It was better in the second half though. Who knows if it was from being demoralized by the offense, or if they really haven’t improved all that much. They did only give up 17 though - its not like LU here. Wait until the O is back on track, and then judge the D.
Until then, nothing anybody can do. Wannstedt didn’t break Stull’s thumb off or screw up the QB situation. It is what it is.
Its too bad we don’t have PSU’s non-con schedule.
Rhoads is a disgrace. How many running QBs are we going to get burned by?
Half the people say “Wannstedt’s an idiot cause he runs his best player into the ground” and the other half say “Wannstedt’s an idiot cause he doesn’t give the ball to the best player on every down.” You people are all amusing.
I think people need to set realistic expectations given the circumstances. You know these other schools get players that even we would give scholarships to, right? They’re not highschool teams. LU lost to Syracuse. Mich lost to App State. ND can’t win a game FCS with 4 and 5-start linemen and the most amazing QB evvarrrr. A loss to UConn with a terrible backup QB isn’t the end of the world. We’ll survive, and can still be good next year.
Can that happen? Like have a guy be “official recruiter” and another guy actually work with the players?
If it can’t, can we be the first team to make it happen?
Or how about we just let Wannstedt be the defensive coordinator (something he has always excelled at) and be our main recruiter, and bring in a good head coach to run the X’s and O’s!
(Sorry, I’m drunk and ranting… but this seriously would work if it were the least bit possible.)
Omar this week: “One step forward, ten million steps back… Paul Rhoads is the worst football coach in the world. Can you believe he makes several hundred thousand dollars a year? Some of it is taxpayer money? It shouldn’t be legal. Being a Pitt fan right now should qualify you for medicade or medicare. It sucks that bad… ”
Maybe you should calm down a little bit and realize the defense has improved, but is not the Steel Curtain. We did only give up 17 points this week. And maybe they’re a little demoralized that they know the second they get off the field that retard was going to hand the other team a TD. They played better in the second half. Relax. You know, things aren’t always black and white, but shades of grey…
You people need to get back in touch with reality.
Speaking of “getting back to reality.” I count 50 posts attributed to you in this thread alone…
And LSH should never, ever get the ball and run between the tackles. Unless we get the Steelers O line.
BUT all that said, again, Paul Rhoads and his awful, awful defense is the reason this game was lost. More precisely, the actual play when the game was completely lost: Pitt finally scores a TD to make it a game. Terrible squib kick gives UConn great field position (what moron called that?). Missed assignment on the UConn OL gives us rare sack. So now it’s 2nd and 26 against a terrible team. PUT YOUR F**KING FOOT ON THE NECK HERE, RHOADS. Instead, they play 50 yards off the ball, bring nobody, and this slow white puke of a QB stands back there all day, finds the inevitable open guy and COMPLETES A 2ND AND 26. All the air flowed right out of the balloon of all 17000 people (or whatever we were, certainly not 40000, Jeff Long). Game over right there.
11 carries for Shady. AWFUL. Cavanaugh is a moron. Shady should be on the field as the steady feature back. Bringing him onto the field every couple plays tells EVERYONE that he is getting the ball on that play- and when he’s not on the field for the others, the defense doesn’t have to worry about accounting for him. This isn’t rocket science.
TIME TO CLEAN HOUSE. THIS IS UNBEARABLE.
The defense was disgusting. Does anyone else not understand the whole bend but dont break? Why the hell cant we just have three and outs… Why do we have to bend in the first place, and why do we break everytime. I hope Paul Rhoads never coaches a college game again after this year. He is a defensive disaster… (How about Pitt was considering hiring him as our head coach) This team made me shake my head in disbelief….
THe most frustrating part is that Uconn is not a better team. We were flat and outcoached. Dumb playcalls.. Wrong players in there… and it just looked horrible.
Well it looks like one of those years where im going to cheer for psu to lose and try to forget Pitt exists… (although my friends will surely rub it in when we get spanked by wvu)
