Okay, for those who like to predict the next comment from national naysayers about Pitt after the game of dominance over Florida State, it will most likely be something like, “yeah, but they haven’t really gone on the road yet. That Western Michigan neutral court game doesn’t really count.” The other option is to reverse field and say that FSU wasn’t really that good. Who knows, maybe there’s something to the latter.

Wow, an 88-66 win and the score wasn’t even that close. Pitt got the FSU All-American forward candidate Al Thornton in early foul trouble and blew the rest of the Seminoles out of the water. This despite little from Gray and Kendall. Giving pause, at least, to those who presume that a team that doesn’t have that one big player is not going to go far.

Graves and Ramon led the way from the outside, but Mike Cook again threw in 15. He’s already a reliable steady force. The depth on the team is exciting. Gilbert Brown played, so I’m reasonably sure that means his redshirt is done. He must have made a good recovery and showed the coaches something in practice. Cool. More depth and potential headaches, but not a bad kind to have.

BC went down to the Providence Friars. Nice to see another slow start for the Eagles, but I really am not wild about seeing BE teams play BC. Especially in B-ball where the Eagles are desperate to find games that they don’t have to travel far or pay a fortune to host.

Butler wants to show they aren’t one year wonders and took another step to that by knocking off Gonzaga. Still bitter about last year, but it isn’t just Pitt.

Wisconsin lost as well. Lots of early stumbles for top-ten teams.

Interesting stat of the night for Pitt — more assists (28) than rebounds (25). Really did a good job distributing the ball.

This team is the deepest and most talented Pitt team ever. That was a great performance. It was over with 12 mins left in 2nd half when Jamie called off the dogs! In the words of Dick Groat…..Wow!

There was a 5 minute stretch in the late 1st half where it seemed liked we made every shot. We were simply on fire.

FSU has a hell of a schedule this week (us, Wisconsin, and Florida)…I hope to god that they beat Florida so our RPI goes up.

Butler and Bradley are different teams….in different states….even with different players!!!

But if it does make you feel better, Butler did beat Bradley last year, which I’m afraid Pitt can’t say.

Cook was a great addition – so steady. But it was really nice to see Biggs have a solid game. He’ll need to step up in the upcoming years and tonight he looked like he may be able to.

Brown’s redshirt is safe – he can only play in 6 games without blowing it. Nice win tonight!

After 6 games, I am extremely impressed with how much of a better player Antonio Graves looks compared to last year. He has not gotten a lot of credit on any blogs but I think he is now a legit starter as a senior instead of playing the role of John DeGroat this year. I hope he keeps up the good play because it makes us so much more dangerous.

antonio graves was never going to be a DeGroat he is a solid player and he obviously tweaked the things he needed to improve in the off season.. and ramon needs to get a little more time cause hes knocking down those threes like there nothing

[…] I’m not exactly outraged or scandalized that Pitt is now ranked #2 in the AP and #3 in the Coaches. UCLA didn’t just have bigger wins this week, they had bigger televised wins. There’s no pretending that getting on TV doesn’t matter for the profile and the voters. No one got to see Pitt destroy FSU (who, before the game was supposed to be good, but on Sunday night I had the misfortune of hearing Doug Gottlieb stump for UCLA and dismiss Pitt with a “they haven’t beaten anyone,” comment. So predictable.) or any of the other teams Pitt has beaten. Not even on FullCourt for the first 6 games. That Ohio State got the top spot in the Coaches, though, is a bit of a stumper. If the argument is that Pitt hasn’t beaten anyone, OSU is even worse. Pitt can at least claim to play a team from the ACC and A-10 to this point. The best from Ohio State is Kent St. in the MAC. Yes, OSU takes on UNC on Wednesday, but that doesn’t explain the present. […]
