The Citadel: Um, Er, Cool Name

It’s official. The local media really doesn’t have much for this game. The Citadel scored 3 points and 35 points in their first two games. Both games, though, saw them give up 35 or more points. So while there is potential on the offense, the defense has shown nothing to this point.

Here’s the thing, they are a military style institution with many of their alum serving admirably and with distinction in the armed services. It’s hard to mock them, especially in this present climate, without looking like a complete dick. A big switch from the 90s — when there were lawsuits over admitting women and a paralyzed former player, with a famous dad, who only now reconciled with the school — where the school was an easy target. Add in the fact that it is located in South Carolina and it only multiplied the ease with which to rip them.

Now, things are different. The Citadel may not be a national service academy, but the students who are willing to go through the process are accorded more respect. Plus, the loyal alum were even willing to shell out the cash to bring the Summerall Guard up for the game.

Please, the local media, I can barely give this game enough attention to make this post. What an entire waste of a game. Oh we are going to rebound against the Citadel, well I should hope frickin’ so… Sorry, to lose to MSU in the way they did, now playing the Citadel, yuck…Im brought to the low level of rooting for PSU to beat the Suckeyes.

What a horible weekend. I go to the Pitt game Saturday and watch them get their heads pounded in. I go the monday night Steelers game and watch them get roughed up and not to mention shut out. Hopefully this will be a better weekend. Pitt victory, Penn St loss and Steeler win. Go Buckeyes!

Geez, guys, give Jason a break. Take into account where he’s stuck. He’s in the Heart of Darkness of Buckeyes. He has to hear, read, absorb them every day. The stuff I have to deal with in NE Ohio is residual by comparison — and it grates on me after a while.

And so, to paraphrase Chris Rock, “I’m not saying he’s right, but I understand!”

I live in Columbus and will be rooting for PSU as well. Very nice class displayed there Chris and Marco, way to represent. Who would have thought the Pirates would be the least disappointing Pittsburgh team over the past week!

Um… as the logical opposite of Jason in Columbus, I’ll be rooting for the Buckeyes.

OK, so I’ll be rooting for OSU as much as I’ll be rooting against PSU for reasons many of you are already familiar with. As an old school Pitt fan/alumnus, I could never bring myself to root for Penn State. But Chas is right. As somebody who obviously lived in Columbus, I more than understand what poor Jason has to put up with.

So, I’m also not saying that Jason is right, but I understand.

Hail to Pitt! Go Bucks.

You see the thing about Buckeye fans is they are relegated to Ohio….if you go anywhere on the East coast, Baltimore, DC, NY, Boston, you run into Penn State alum….and they let you know it……they have this concept, why I don’t know, that there school is equivalent to Harvard or Yale, that there football program is the greatest in the world, even though it hasn’t done anything in 10 years…. the funny part is most of these “fans” attended PSUcks brank campus, basically equivalent to a community college…they think when they defecate people will bow down for it…..so when people talk about class, you’re right I have none for Penn State, nor ever will, that damn campus steals money from the State System of Higher Education every year…IUP, Slippery Rock, Ediboro, West Chester….you get the idea.

So deal with the Buckeyes, just realize you don’t have to deal with them anywhere else in the world except in Ohio.

Thanks for the empathy Lee, I have the same for you living in State College. It really is about the Buckeye fans here in Ohio not necessarily the school or team. As far as rooting for PSU, it just the lesser of two evils for me.
