Open Thread: UVa-Pitt, Don’t Miss This Opp

Filed under: Football — Chas @ 6:30 pm

7:30 pm ACC network (no, not digital).

I’m looking out on the field and oh, goodness do the colors look right.

There’s the deeply negative/cynical side of me worrying about this game because of the next one. Next weekend is Ohio. The university not the state. The bobcats not the buckeyes. And it’s at 11 am.

That’s going to be rough no matter what. I’m trying not to imagine it coming off a home opening loss.

And there is nothing that sucks more then watching a game and thinking about the impact on appearances for the next week. It should be all about this game. About how the defense looks. How the offense (hopefully) has improved with the departure of Watson and bringing in Whipple.

So here’s hoping Pitt does everything right

Looking pretty good in the 2nd quarter.

Defense much improved. Pickett the same. Whipple terrible to abandoned Pitt’s style of run it at them and attempt to reincarnate the Miami Dolphins with Marino at QB.
Fire Whipple minimize the passing game and give the ball to Sydell who is built like the pro-type Pitt back; now that _ _ _ _ head Nard let possibly his future best back transfer, Shyedlle(sp). Does he have a Dixon complex of not playing his best players?
season 4-7

The ACCN was no where tonight. Totally unavailable tonight in the greater Philadelphia region — I even went to a “sports bar” with 25 LCD TV that hadn’t the forethought of enlisting SLING, FFS. And with such close notice of potential providers via, i.e. Reddit , couldn’t get on board to anything live this game day.
Absolutely. Pathetic. And I am fairly good to find a source. So.thus was the most botched opening day EVER.
Call me crazy, but in these parts (East Coast PA), there were many of us EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED by this turn of fate.
**Thanks so much to Comcast/Xfinity, as well as the failed launch of the ACCN.
I’m just a “common fan” here, you’d think these Giants would suppose.
But that’s bot true at all. ‘Cause win or lose, it’s my HOME TEAM and I’m willing to pay to watch the games @ESPN on opening day with a conference rival.
What does if take to “get that,” I ask.

I will not repeat this statement again. Most of us who have seen him play (except Narduzzi) realize Pickett is not a D1 QB above the top 100.
Pitt’s only option is to be as aggressive as possible to attract one of the many transferring QB’s in 2020.
Our selling point is our history with transfer QB’s who played on weaker Pitt teams. Both transfers Savage and Peterman were drafted in the NFL and remain on NFL rosters.
Narduzzi has proven he can not attract a 4* QB to Pitt.
We can still run with the ball with our 4* backs and may have one of the best defenses in ACC excluding Clemson but as the last 3 years have shown 6 wins at most with our QB’s.

Dennis, 4=7 might be optimistic

Mental mistakes cost this game, and that’s coaching. Penalties on pass defense let Va, move down the field, a penalty brought back Pickett’s long run. Despite the weak OL play and Pickett’s mediocrity, this was a winnable game.

Davis Beville is a 4 star QB who Narduzzi recruited and is on this year’s roster. He is only a true FR though, so we’re going to have to wait a bit before we see what he can do.

If our offense in general does not improve starting this Saturday, then 4-7 sounds about right.

Losing another starter on the DL is yet another blow, but I’m sticking with my original 6-6 for now.
