Ultimate Repeats

Filed under: Uncategorized — Chas @ 7:17 am

Football may feel like it is treading water. Basketball may have ended yet again in bitter disappointment. The Baseball team may have fallen short of making the College World Series field. But Pitt’s Ultimate club just keeps hucking.

A second straight year of winning the D-1 College USA Ultimate Championship for Pitt’s club.

If you want to see Pitt actually winning something this year, you can see the highlights of the Championship games at 7pm on ESPNU or a rebroadcast of the Championship game at 8p on ESPNU.

There was no ultimate really being played while I was at Pitt, but I started getting involved in it a few years later in law school. For a while I was playing with a club team in Cleveland. Never went through so many wrist and ankle wraps before or since.

We’re climbing up the Capital Once cup standings!

So does this mean that Pitt is neither a football school nor a hoops school, but a wrestling & Ultimate school?

Comment by Imma Man! Im 40! 05.29.13 @ 7:42 am

Face it, Ultimate Frisbee is the true American sport … BTW, we are talking about frisee here, aren’t we?

Baseball was based on cricket, football was based on rugby, and basketball loosely based on a game that the Aztecs (or was it the Mayans) had playd centuries ago.

But the Frisbee (initially the Flying Disc) was invented in California back in the late 30s, and then the great venture capitalists, Wham-O, decided to change its name to Frisbee, and history (specifcally American History) was made.

Jazz, Apple Pie, Facebook and Frisbee!!

Alright we finally win a championship !!

Perhaps the coach (if there is one) can show JD & PC how to close out games and win a championship.

Although…. after looking over the roster there appears to be no coach.

So that’s it, our bball & fball teams are being “overcoached”.

And I’m sure our guys flying the frisbees are wearing Pitt script and the old colors………….
Naturally .

HTP !

EMel

They do have a coach, although I am not sure if he is paid, or if he is paid by someone other than the athletic department.

Here is a link to an article on Chapman.
Doesn’t look good. Woman prosecutor perhaps looking to score points.

Assistant Portage County Prosecutor Kimberly Quinn said that neither side was able to reach an agreement on Wednesday regarding his charges.

“Their lawyer had a chance to review the file today,” Quinn said. “For us, this was the first chance we’ve had to talk to (the witness). If we cannot reach an agreement on (Chapman’s) plea at the next date, then we will proceed to a trial.”

chapman wont be back at pitt.

Comment by FRANKCAN 05.29.13 @ 10:33 am

It sure would be nice if we had a couple new football commits to talk about….or something to get the excitement started.

Hey guys, I read the site almost daily, but i dont comment much.

I also play ultimate competitively and follow Pitt very closely. I watched their championship game and they were dominant.

The coach of the team is Nick Kaczmarek. If anyone is interested in reading about their team, i thought id throw a couple links about the championship in.

They are only one of five teams to ever repeat as champions.

An update on the Athlon college football magazine cover.

At least as far as I can tell, and I don’t think it’s too bad at all for Pitt.

They’ve been doing regional covers for these type of magazines for years, I allready knew this, so not much of a disappointment for me per some posters comments before.

It looks like Athlon has 4 national covers. They each have 3 teams on the covers. Several teams are on several of the 4 if that makes any sense.

For example, one has Alabama, Texas A&M and ND. Another has USC, Texas A&M and ND.

Oregon, Ohio St and Oklahoma sprinkled in the same way in the other two.

Guess what I’m trying to say, 4 national covers, each has 3 teams on each cover, out of a pool of about 8 or 9 teams.

Now, they have the 5 BCS conferences. So, yes, regional covers.

However, they do not do a cover for every team in these conferences. Each conference has about 5 or 6 teams.

So, the good news. ACC has 6 covers out of 14 teams, and Pitt is one of those covers.

Pitt, Syracuse, FSU, Clemson, Georgia Tech, and Virginia Tech are on the ACC issues.

The content seems to be about 95% the same in all of the magazines. Each conference magazine, has a conference specific article or two, other than that, all about the same.

Anyhow, thought I’d pass that along.

Obviously have some down time at work. LOL

All in all, probably about 25 different covers, so not national, but out of 120 or so Div 1 schools, we are one of about 25 teams that do have their own cover.

I do have to do some work, so have a good day all!!

SP should be fired because:

Their dynasty will not last with no on-campus facility.
Already rumors of transfers because the coach won’t play a run and gun style that the players like.
The coach can’t recruit. I don’t see any recruits committed as of yet for next year.
Fans only want to buy frisbees with the Pitt script on them and they are not available at Kmart.

Comment by notrocketscience 05.29.13 @ 10:45 am

ok i want you to make tell me why is JJ transfering he will be at rutgers this week.
this is dumb in what way is he better off there
he might as well stay here.
sit out a year is dumb .
that wont help him go pro he might play in spain
or england but not the NBA.
get your degree from pitt
unless he he is being forced out of pitt it is
dumb move and i dont get it.

Comment by FRANKCAN 05.29.13 @ 11:04 am

frank,
I believe JJ has a kid and babymomma out on Long Island. Rutgers would be 2 hrs away.

Comment by Pitt.Dan83 05.29.13 @ 11:29 am

I was at Pitt in the early 90s and played some pickup games with the Ultimate team on the Cathedral lawn and at the Schenley oval. Had a lot of fun and learned how to throw ‘The Hammer’.

Comment by HL2Pitt 05.29.13 @ 11:44 am

Pitt Dan83 ok i get that sort of but he should
get his degree at pitt and get a job and take
care of them.
that would only be one year that way this way
he must go 2 years before he can do things for them.

he is not a NBA player he will still end up overseas rutgers or pitt wont change that.

Comment by FRANKCAN 05.29.13 @ 12:06 pm

Me thinks the Ultimate team won because:

The Athletic Dept. didn’t have anything to do with them. (you see they couldn’t foul things up )

AND SP doesn’t have a private club box to watch the games from !!!

Comment by EMel 05.29.13 @ 2:28 pm

Perhaps JJ fell in love with the Scarlett Knights mascot on the last trip to Piscataway.

Or babymomma is the new Rutgers AD, lol

Comment by EMel 05.29.13 @ 2:30 pm

Break out the bong! Hacky Sack championship, we’re coming for you next. H2P

Comment by Chris 05.29.13 @ 4:55 pm

Back in the 60s my roommate and I were really good at table hockey. We’d have done Pitt proud.

Comment by steve1 05.29.13 @ 6:10 pm

The Ultimate team is not under the purview of the athletic department.
Neither is Pitt Crew.
My money went to Crew in the last 12 months.
It will continue to unless and until I see a business plan from Pederson.
“Give money” is not a plan. It’s a plea.

Comment by SFPitt 05.29.13 @ 6:31 pm

Gotta love the Paterno’s and Ped St alum doing all they can to keep their scandal in the headlines. That’s all they need is to lose in court – coaches will have a field day using that against them in recruiting.

Comment by marcus of schaumburg 05.29.13 @ 6:58 pm

Tyler DiGirolamo should be in the Pitt Hall of Fame, if there is one.

Comment by steve1 05.29.13 @ 7:23 pm

Penn State will be back in the national news shortly and will set a record. It will be another negative for that institution.

As in any Cult, the Creepy Valley pedo cult is not going to admit their leader did ANYTHING WRONG.

These creatures would have been handing out the kool aid shots in Jonestown.

Actually they deserved a whole lot more than what happened to them. But tell these cult members that.
They want full vindication.

This indicates the whole area of State College and the school that inhabits it, really needs shut down. As most of the inhabitants believe no wrong was committed and no one should pays for the abomination that happened there. Not for 1 week, 1 month, 1 year or 5 years. But for at least 12 years.

What a disgusting indictment of America, sports in general and college sports in particular.

Emel, duffdaddy, what gets me is that the NCAA is the scapegoat for all of this Happy Valley madness. No it wasn’t the pervert Sandusky .. AND the College President, Head of Security, Athletic Director and/or iconic Football Coach involved in the cover-up ….. it’s all the NCAA’s fault!

Comment by wbb 05.30.13 @ 7:01 am

all ANY of the 4 would have had to do was to act just like a normal human being, and the NCAA would have had no reason to sanction PSU and this sad stroy would be a distant memory
