So, less than a month after Pitt hired Eddie Faulkner as the running backs coach, he leaves for Wisconsin to be the Tight Ends Coach. Um, okay.

I think I need someone to explain to me what life is like up in Madison. You know, I get wanting to hire guys you know, trust and have been with you in some form before. These Wisconsin coaches, though, seem to be taking it to a new level. There cannot be more than a degree of separation from either Wisconsin or personal connections. This has led to a lot of hiring guys away from each other Doren, Chryst, Bielema — all hiring the same guys and raiding each other for one coach or another. It’s making me a little nervous.

I’m not exactly distraught by this loss to the staff. As noted when he was hired, Faulkner’s recruiting area was in MAC/Big 10 region. That seems well covered with or without him by the Pitt staff.

Chris Dokish makes the good point that this could/should be a blessing in disguise for Coach Chryst. The chance to hire someone with recruiting ties in New Jersey and/or Maryland.

NOOO!!! FAULKNER IS GONE??? THE SKY IS FALLING. Who the F is Eddie Faulkner? Dokish is spot on, will not be hard to replace.

And for those wishing to get Dave Walker back — and that would be nice — it isn’t happening. Indy is smart enough to keep Walker.

My vote for this vacancy goes to Curtis Martin 🙂
Speaking of leaving, since wvu is splitting, I’d love to add a road game with Florida State on the schedule. Heck, I’d welcome any top 25 program to the schedule. As a fan, I’ve always felt if you want to be good you need to play your games against good teams, and if you want to be the best you need to beat them. We’ve lost to crappy teams in recent years, can’t be any worse, and can definitely help. Besides, if wvu can play them, why can’t we?

Who is the Offensive lineman who left Pitt and is returning this year?

Life is good in Madison. Fun school: THE OSU and U of M are expected to rule the roost and usually do but Wisky takes a title from time to time and that means good things fir the football team. They look down on PSU and have a head coach that the rest of the world realizes is not going to leave for another job.
Look at it this way, would you accept a job from Fraud Graham or Beliema? There is comfort in stability.

What seems liking though is that UW probably upped the amount of $$$ available for assistant coaches. So what other coaches might be flipped from Pitt to UW. Remember that Tampa Bay (NFL) just flipped 6 coaches from Rutgers on short notice.

Who wouldn’t want to coach Ray Graham, Rushel Shell and our other up and comers. Get a great recruiter. I agree NJ, MD or FL.

On a different football note. When does Chris Jacobson find out from the NCAA that he is granted a 6th year of eligibility?

Howsabout Hafley?

While this would be an opportunity, as Dokish suggests, to hire a coach with eastern ties, why should we expect this to happen? Either Chryst’s network of contacts is west of the Ohio/PA border and north of the Ohio/Kentucky border or he seems to have no interest in penetrating the area in which Pitt will be playing its future league games.

I believe Rudolph and Huxtable are the only two coaches on staff with any eastern and southeastern ties. When Howland came to town, he was wise in hiring Barry Roehrssen … just saying’

Losing a running back coach is no big deal. We have the offensive and defensive coordinators and the rest of the coaching staff in place. Chryst needs to get someone who’s a good recruiter who can recruit in an area where he is needed. I presonally would like to see someone with New Jersey or Florida connections. Wannstedt always did well in New Jersey and found a lot of very players there. With former Pitt coaches Cignetti and Haffey at Rutgers, they dominated New Jersey recruiting. In Chris Dokish’s blog, he comments about New Jersey and Maryland as having a tremoundous amount of talent over the next few years. Let’s bring in someone who can bring something to the table and recruit in one of these areas.

cignetti ,hafley to tampa , guess hafley can leave family now and also some of r recruits

Comment by paul shannon 02.07.12 @ 9:33 am

maybe he can afford to being them to Florida

Comment by wbb 02.07.12 @ 10:30 am

Cignetti is reported to be going to The Rams.
Can JJ Denman and the rest of RU’s class leave because of the massive coaching changes?

Whatever happens with this class it is safe to say that Rutgers football is in extremely bad shape.

Comment by isnore 02.07.12 @ 2:26 pm

Denman and the Rutgers recruits are off limits to Pitt and the rest of the Big East. Even if Rutgers released them from their NLI.

The Big East has very tight recruiting restrictions from the rough days of basketball recruiting and trying to get kids to transfer in the 80s. Basically, no Big East school can touch a recruit once he signs the NLI. Even if released immediately. No exceptions. No waivers.

Comment by Chas 02.07.12 @ 2:37 pm

The Rutgers recruits should cry out in unison, “WE WAS ROBBED”.

Comment by isnore 02.07.12 @ 2:56 pm

Hafley to the NFL? Wow

Comment by Tony C 02.07.12 @ 6:12 pm

Ok let me get this straight, this putz Faulkner did not want to coach one of the best RB’s in the country, that being Ray Graham. And did not want to coach one of the highest recruited RB’s in the country, that being Rush Shell.

Somebody needs to examine this guy for a brain.

Bye, bye putz …we barely knew thee, thank god.

Comment by Emel 02.07.12 @ 9:51 pm

Emel – don’t tell that to the PITT superfan “Joe D.”. He’s convinced that Shell is the next Marcus Dupree and will be a bust in college.
