No Texas, No UCONN, No Mizzou, No Zona, No Tenessee, No WVU, No Duke, No UNC, No Georgia, No SD State, No XU, No Cuse….nice start

Comment by Pauly P 03.13.11 @ 5:24 pm

They have a lot of BE teams paired to meet each other in round 32. That is BS. Why not keep the BE teams separate like the other conferences.

Comment by Pitt fan in Atlanta 03.13.11 @ 5:28 pm

Alright we get New Orleans instead of Anaheim. What a relief ! Party time in the Crescent City and All….That…..Jazz !!

Needless to say the Big East has been good to Pitt in the past.

Looks like we might also get UCLA, St. Johns and Kansas State and Old Dominion

Comment by Pauly P 03.13.11 @ 5:31 pm

Am I looking at the bracket wrong, Pauly P, or do we play in Cleveland the first 2 rounds and maybe have Mizzou 2nd round?

Comment by Carmen 03.13.11 @ 5:31 pm

Ooh. We are gonna get BYU… hmm… we can beat that.

Comment by Lee in Altoona 03.13.11 @ 5:32 pm

Two # 1 seeds in the last 3 years. Nuff said

Let’s take it to the House. (or wherever The Final Four is being held) 🙂

Hail to Pitt !

Comment by melvinbennett 03.13.11 @ 5:33 pm

No way we play in CLeveland. All of the slots are filledf. Probably in DC. That sucks, though we play well there usually.

Comment by Pauly P 03.13.11 @ 5:34 pm

Butler could be trouble, go ODU

Comment by Brian 03.13.11 @ 5:36 pm

UNC Ashville, KSU/ODU…could have been worse

Comment by Pauly P 03.13.11 @ 5:38 pm

What the f*ck !

Disney Sports doesn’t have the SouthEast Bracket up, God I hate them.

Looks like the SE region will be the upset machine

Comment by Pauly P 03.13.11 @ 5:39 pm

Churles Barkley says we got the easiest bracket?

Comment by Lee in Altoona 03.13.11 @ 5:39 pm

I say this many years, but I REALLY LOVE OUR REGION

Comment by Pauly P 03.13.11 @ 5:42 pm

I don’t like us playing a play-in team though…but, so what…if we’re better…get it done.

Comment by Pauly P 03.13.11 @ 5:43 pm

WTF is Barkley doing commenting on college basketball, I thought he was an expert in golf.

Comment by melvinbennett 03.13.11 @ 5:43 pm

excited for this

Comment by Greg in New Orleans 03.13.11 @ 5:44 pm

I haven’t seen the bracket yet, are we playing one of the Big 6 play in games or one from some little unknown conference?

Comment by melvinbennett 03.13.11 @ 5:45 pm

I live in Atlanta; I’ll be there to cheer Pitt… I’m also drunk… .HTP!

Comment by MariettaMike 03.13.11 @ 5:49 pm

Oh shit, possibly a hyphenated team, Arkansas-Little Rock. You know what Al McGuire used to say about playing hyphenated teams. Hopefully UNC Asheville will win that game. Those don’t use a hyphen. Then they give us the defending National Runnerup possibly, Butler. Wow, not easy Butler has been on a roll lately.

Comment by melvinbennett 03.13.11 @ 5:51 pm

Wow. CBS had the bracket all sorts of F@#$ed up on its Web site. Just looked at the bracket on ESPN. That’s more like it.

Comment by Carmen 03.13.11 @ 6:02 pm

Hail to Pitt. Where are the naysayers and trolls?

Now it time to prove that we deserve it.

Comment by gc 03.13.11 @ 6:03 pm

Inside scoop on times? Since Ill be calling off work, Id love to fit in a round of golf!

Comment by Z-boy 03.13.11 @ 6:12 pm

Pitt couldn’t have asked for a better bracket. Not sure about the matchups, but the teams are not as good as the teams in other brackets. Florida a 2 seed? They got the worst (easiest) 2, 3 and 4 seeds in their bracket.

This is setting up to be either our year, or a HORRIBLE flame out. No excuses this year.

Comment by Boubacar Aw 03.13.11 @ 6:12 pm

The table is set for Pitt this year to reach the final 4, I agree, no excuses………….

Comment by Joe Kumpf 03.13.11 @ 6:15 pm

St. Johns, a six seed, might actually be the second best team in the SouthEast?

Comment by Boubacar Aw 03.13.11 @ 6:16 pm

Never been to an NCAA game. Assume single-game tix can be scalped? Hoping to go to the D.C. game on Saturday.

Comment by Carmen 03.13.11 @ 6:19 pm

@ Carmen, the 2nd round game tickets are much easier to scalp, as the 2 teams that are eliminated become available as well as the normal allotment of scalped tickets. And the prices are much better.

Comment by melvinbennett 03.13.11 @ 6:29 pm

Anybody know what time on Thursday Pitt plays in DC ?

Comment by Marty 03.13.11 @ 6:30 pm

On our side of the bracket, Wisconsin is the #4 seed, if the seeds hold true, we would play them in the Sweet 16, I like our chances against any Big 10 teams including the Suckeyes (who won’t play us anymore after we kicked their asses early in the 2000’s)

Comment by melvinbennett 03.13.11 @ 6:32 pm

Uh, Luke, someone–when I went to the link, I had the option to edit users, and it appeared as though I could actually remove them if I wanted to do so. You may want to check the security settings.

Comment by Lou 03.13.11 @ 6:47 pm

If not this year, I don’t know when…

Comment by pauly p 03.13.11 @ 6:53 pm

Oh, I was so wrong in saying Pitt was getting a 1 seed for sure…

But really I love this draw. I’m about ready to book my flight for the Final Four. The only team that scares me is K-State cause of Pullen. Still no really awesome coaches in Pitt’s path either.

Comment by BlackMagic 03.13.11 @ 6:59 pm

Yes I realize Izzo, Lavin, Howland and Donovan are in the region… but they would only played one of those teams in the Elite 8. And Donovan has only really won with a team full of NBA starters.

Comment by BlackMagic 03.13.11 @ 7:08 pm

Thanks very much, melvinbennet. appreciate it.

Comment by Carmen 03.13.11 @ 7:26 pm

k state was swept by co and wisconsin was swept by psu..we can beat everybody in the region, no problem. less than final four this year is a disappointment.

Comment by scoocher 03.13.11 @ 7:29 pm

It’s the weakest region I think I’ve ever seen in an NCAA tournament. Fla’s a suprising #2, we all know about BYU’s struggles and this has to be one of Bo Ryan’s worst squads.

Someone is living right at Pitt. Like I’ve said before, sometimes timing means more than anything else in life and Dixon’s got a good squad and an unbelievable draw in a horrible, atrocious year of college hoop and if that doesn’t translate to a Final 4, then maybe nothing will.

Comment by hugh green 03.13.11 @ 7:32 pm

Anyone coming to DC for the game, stay in Baltimoe it is much cheaper. More than happy to help with hotel rooms and bar choices.

Really psyched for this run by Pitt. No excuses…as the old Pogo comic strip would say” we have met the enemy and they is us!” The only team that can beat Pitt, is Pitt.

Comment by Dan 72 03.13.11 @ 7:35 pm

Big shock! Gottlieb picked the whole first actually 2nd round and picked against the whole BE except for the obvious wins … but picked every team from the B12 to win

His vendetta isn’t against Piit — it’s against the BE

Comment by wbb 03.13.11 @ 7:38 pm

hugh, you are so correct. Is it because Jamie’s program is so clean and encourages student athletes to play 4/5 years and to actually graduate?

I certainly think so.

Comment by steve 03.13.11 @ 7:39 pm

Guck Fottlieb!

Comment by Lou 03.13.11 @ 7:58 pm

Lets enjoy the ride… I couldn’t be happier for this Pitt team! HTP!

Comment by MariettaMike 03.13.11 @ 8:36 pm

Dan: Also Arlington VA and rates drop Sat & Sun. Metro system is excellent, 15 minutes to the station.

Comment by Old School Panther 03.13.11 @ 8:39 pm

American Inn in Bethesda. 10 minutes from Red Line metro. Nothing fancy, but cheap and clean, and very limited free off-street parking.

Comment by Carmen 03.13.11 @ 8:42 pm

People might also want to consider staying in Arlington,VA. (hotels are far cheaper than DC proper) It’s right across the Potomac from Georgetown nightlife and you can take the DC Metro right to Chinatown-Gallery Place Station where Verizon Center is.

Comment by melvinbennett 03.13.11 @ 8:44 pm

Good thinking Old School ……lol

Comment by melvinbennett 03.13.11 @ 8:46 pm

If you got the bucks Connecticut Ave and the Financial District is the place to stay or Georgetown. This venue has got it all over sucky Cleveland.

Comment by melvinbennett 03.13.11 @ 8:49 pm

any idea when tip off times will be announced?

Comment by ryanatpitt 03.13.11 @ 8:53 pm

2010: The Verizon Center is one of only two U.S. sports arenas, along with Baseball’s Tropicana Field, with 100 percent of its food vendors found to have major health and sanitary violations.[6]

Beware Pitt people, eat before going or drink a lot of water. Save your appetite for all the great restaurants in DC. Bring your own booze as well. (flask) I know lots of people who came down with the sh*ts eating at MCI/Verizon Center.

Comment by melvinbennett 03.13.11 @ 9:00 pm

3 ET game on Thursday, following Butler-ODU

Comment by Luke 03.13.11 @ 9:22 pm

Damn I was hoping for a night game on Thursday. I’ve got work… Oh well it should be well worth having an insanely easy bracket.

Comment by Tony Cancilla 03.13.11 @ 10:02 pm

I work in DC so I was shocked that Pitt actulally got the DC slot. Does anyone have any good suggestions for getting tickets? The only thing I saw on ticketmaster was $250 (not including their insane fees) which was a two day ticket.

Comment by Coach Ditka 03.14.11 @ 7:17 am

Let the hating begin

ESPN – Pat Forde
link to espn.go.com

“And then there is the Southeast, otherwise known as the Jamie Dixon Backrub Regional. I don’t see a single major national-title threat in that 16-team grouping, which means terminal underachiever Pittsburgh might finally reach its first Final Four since World War II”

Comment by Pitt fan in Atlanta 03.14.11 @ 8:09 am

PITTs draw seems lined up to make a run to the final four. Duke had an easy draw last year.

Comment by Pittastic 03.14.11 @ 9:07 am

Apparently fans from State Penn think that if they can get by Temple, they have a better shot of reaching the Elite Eight than Pitt. It takes them ten years to finally make the NCAA tourney and they already are acting like elitists. Typical.

Comment by Greg 03.14.11 @ 9:25 am

I hope they make it to the final 4 I just bought tickets to the games in Houston!

Comment by James from Dallas 03.14.11 @ 9:29 am

Pitt fan in Atlanta,

He didn’t even have us as one of the 7 national title contenders in his original post.

Comment by Krayz 03.14.11 @ 10:33 am

Why don’t I like the smell of Butler/Old Dominion winner?????

Comment by Dan 03.14.11 @ 10:35 am

Talk about a no-win situation. If Pitt makes the Final Four, the talk will be about how easy their bracket was. If they don’t, it will be that once again Pitt and Jamie underachieved in the tourney. Their only real option: Win it all!

Hopefully, the players are ignoring all of the talk. The seniors need to step up and lead in that regard, because they’ve experienced it three times already. Their only focus should be on the next opponent. There are a number of potentially dangerous matchups for them, even if there is no team that really scares you in the bracket.

However, if they listen to comments like Forde’s above, or like the one from Pitt and Jamie lover Andy Katz (“Pitt should breeze to the Elite Eight. I’ll be surprised if it doesn’t get to its first Final Four since 1941.”), we’ll all be talking about another disappointing early exit and Pitt’s potential for a run next year.

Comment by TampaT 03.14.11 @ 10:35 am

We’ve been thru this high expectation game before with these media a-holes. As recently as this past football season. All it does it set you up to be disappointed. I’d be happy to get to New Orleans, see who the opponent is and then everything after that is Gravy. HTP !

Comment by melvinbennett 03.14.11 @ 6:57 pm

anyone thinking ashville will beat us, i am willing to start taking bets…..cars, houses, boats…..lets make some wagers…..

Comment by drgags 03.16.11 @ 12:13 pm

Please Luke, can you delete one of my brackets? I ended up creating 2 and obviously that’s ilegal.
I changed the name of it to “EXCLUDETHISPLEASE”
