Hope everyone had a good long weekend. Family visited and most of the time was spent doing various yard projects for the wife. Now if we can just find someone who wants to take away the pool in the backyard…

The Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC) released its list of the top-75 best-selling universities during basketball season and the end of bowl season (Jan 1 – Mar 31 2010). Pitt came in at 46. That puts them behind WVU (14), Louisville (30), Syracuse (39) and Cinci (44) in the Big East.

Chris Dokish has his latest Q&A. He is enthusiastic about the hiring of Pat Skerry.

… Letaio was the coach I mentioned, but as my boss at NBE can attest to, Skerry was who I thought Pitt should hire. He has all it takes to be an absolute dynamo at Pitt and he will be an excellent head coach in the near future. It was another major statement by Pitt that they are in the big time. Not just anybody can hire a superstar assistant from a rival school. Bottom line, Skerry will make a big splash at Pitt.

He’s also very high on 2011 Pitt commit John Johnson. There’s also some caution as to whether J.J. Moore is actually qualified at this point.

As always, go read all of it and pick apart your favorite nugget of interest.

Gene Collier’s column is a gem. In referring to the greed of the big eleven (small caps, please) he uses words like “anoint” and phrases such as “it’s so Wall Street”. Mr. Collier is NOT OVERSTATING his case. Writing from the heart of Ohio I shout “right on”. As a former Pitt News sports writer (in pre-historic times) I would hope my alma mater would have too much pride to succumb to the blatant arrogance and commercialism of the otherwise reputable mid-west institutions. The obvious is accurate. The big eleven is a television driven, money hungry conference which is fast losing its mantle of dignity. Pitt is neither Cambridge nor Stanford, but it, at least, has its focus in the right direction. On to the future!!. George from Columbus

I also noticed that The Ohio State University did not make it. Go Pitt!

I live in York, Pa and trying to find anything Pitt related is quite a treasure hunt. In Central Pa only one school exists, JoPa U.
Dicks, based in Western Pa does not carry Pitt at all. The local mall based stores cary Penn State and Penn State and did I say Penn State.
Every once in a while I see Notre Dame, Michigan or Maryland (York is about 45 miles north of Charm City. Pitt does not exist!!!

The CLC, which puts out those rankings, represents most of the larger BCS schools including the entire SEC, Big 12, and ACC and bits and pieces of the Big East, Big Something and Pac-10.
Probably the only two schools that they do not represent that would make a difference on the list are Ohio State and USC.
