Offline world today may delay extensive posting for most of the day.

The search for Pitt’s next new assistant to Coach Dixon is mostly quiet. Tony Battle is indeed staying on at Wake Forest, so cross him off the list.

Minor tidbit from the Boston Globe:

…Wake Forest firing Dino Gaudio following a 20-11 season. Gaudio could resurface as an assistant coach on Jamie Dixon’s staff at Pittsburgh, although Pat Duquette, who was on Skinner’s staff at BC, also could emerge as a candidate.

Not sure if that is based on anything other than speculation. Nice to know that  people understand how good a gig and potential career reboot serving on Coach Dixon’s staff can be.

Chas,

Gaudio has local family ties in the tri-state region, I used to work with one of his relatives, Dom in Weirton WVa. and had the opportunity to meet Dino in the late 80’s.

A very nice and engaging man, I’m sure he will land something soon, he would be a great addition to the Pitt staff.

Ah. Thanks for the info.

I guess since I saw Gaudio as a longshot for the job — taking a year off after being fired from a HC gig and his desirability as a recruiter — I didn’t dig too deep into his background. That might play well for Pitt.

This would be a tremendous hire, even if only for a year or two.

I guess that we hear nothing from Dixon himself when he was up for all of the jobs these past few years, it stands to reason that reason that we won’t hear a thing from Pitt until a hiring is announced.

Another name added to the rumor mill according to the Albany Times Union, Albany head coach Will Brown. He’s looking and Albany’s allowing him to look.

“If Brown doesn’t get the Dartmouth position, another potential destination could be the University of Pittsburgh, where his longtime friend Jamie Dixon has a spot open for an assistant.”

Jamie sure has a lot of longtime friends looking for jobs.

Wbb, not sure what Jamie (or Pitt) could say. This is one of those situations were nothing can be gained by the parties by commenting in advance. I would say that Jamie could handle the “leaving Pitt” rumors better than he does, but I don’t see why he would want to comment in this case. We will all know who it is soon enough. And I’m sure it will be a good hire. Mike Rice and Tom Herrion were both excellent choices.

I’m not implying that Jamie or Pitt should say anything. I’m just saying that their nature is not to release any information until a hire is made and that almost always includes any info leaks, thus, even though I’m sure they have been actively seeking an assistant, we may well not hear anything until the press conference is scheduled.
