Wannstedt Extended. Okay, Fine

Really not much to say. I don’t have a real problem with it. It seems like the kind of formality to make it clear that he is going to be here a while — on the off chance someone wanted to negative recruit against Pitt that Wannstedt could be on his way out. We all know he isn’t going anywhere.

The extension in terms of years is only two more. He is now under contract until 2014. Presumably there is a bit of a bump in salary to keep him among the upper-part of the conference.

Just caught the second half of the press conference, where Coach Wannstedt was wrapping up talking about his love for Pitt, how the recruiting has improved, depth is much better, that there is stability in the program and kids know Pitt is not a stepping-stone for coaches.

Then the floor was opened to questions including spring practice. Yes, the topic of QBs just happened to be discussed. Coach Wannstedt remains steadfast that this is still a competition.

He said that Bostick is getting just as much work as Sunseri — just to different players. Yes, he said it with a straight face.

When talking about the two, it is clear that he sees much more potential in Sunseri at this point. He used the term “upside.” Mentioned how he can make throws and can move around so well.

Then it was time to say good things about Bostick.”Pat. Well, Pat is Pat.”

Yes that is what he said. I am reasonably certain that is an exact quote. He went on to say that he has confidence that Bostick could step on the field now and get the team in the endzone. If you had any further doubt about the depth chart at QB. This answered it.

(A duplicate to my post on the previous thread)
I don’t think that Bostick needs to be told that whoever is given the starting duties at QB, that the backup better keep his head in the game and prepare to BE the the #1 guy at a moments notice. Sunseri probably has more potential that needs to be quickly developed if in fact he gets the nod to begin the season, so I’m not surprised that he is now getting so many reps with the first team. However, even if its made offical tomorrow that Sunseri is the guy, Bostick is just one play away from stepping into that leading role and he knows that from experience. He has been “the guy” in some of Pitt’s biggest wins of recent history. ND quad overtime win and THEE WIN at West Virginia had him at the helm only because of injury to the starting quarterback. So I hope he has matured enough to rise above all of this reporting/fan hype and just continue to concentrate on improving at his position, because I will guarentee that he will be called on again before graduation to be “the guy” once again and manage the QB position well enough to pencil in another key Pitt win in the future. Nothing wrong with playing the Hero’s role from the bench if you really are sincere about contributing to the team in the best way possible irrespective of the prevailing circumstances.

Dave? Well, Dave is Dave.

The quote from DW on Bostic is very misleading. You should view the press conference. What Dave said after Pat is Pat was that he is basicly ready right now. he could step behind the center, call a play and with a high degree of confidence get the ball in the enzone. That’s a lot different than your truncated version.

“Pat is Pat” reminds me of the time he said “He’s a guy you have on your team.” — I believe in regards to Shady after the Syracuse game a couple of years ago. Anyone remember that?

Regarding the “Pat is Pat” quote – inflection and demeanor is everything. Watch the video yourself and see – DW seems very confident is Bostick’s ability to handle the offense.
