The Holy Cross job search has been expected to be completed by the beginning of July. That means that by Wednesday, Pitt could be looking for a new assistant coach. Herrion is one of the last two standing in the Crusdader coach search.

Holy Cross athletic director Regan has said that he wants someone with head coaching experience and that would clearly favor Herrion – who grew up in nearby Oxford and won an average of 20 games per season over his four-year career at the College of Charleston.

However, [Notre Dame associate head coach] Kearney, according to numerous sources, has the support of former Crusaders coach Ralph Willard, has the Notre Dame pedigree and his father also played at the school for one season before being called into military duty.

Kearney is supposed to interview again on Monday, and Herrion on Tuesday.

Hope Coach Dixon has a short list of possibilities and can get them to fly to New Zealand for the interview. Otherwise, it could just be Brandin Knight on the recruiting trail for the first half of July.

“Good-bye Tom. We hardly got to know ye”. I presume Dixon has access to e-mail, telephone, etc. in New Zealand. We also have a sharp A.D. All is not lost, but Tom was a plus for Pitt. Who knows, perhaps on of our former assistants would return. One could do far worse than come back to the “City of Champions”. George from Columbus

Jamie, I’ll be glad to take over. I’ll bring back the amoeba defense, those rubber knee pads, short trunks and underhand foul shot.

Oh, and Pitt script.

In football several recent commits (I think 5 or 6 this weekend). This is good news. I believe that TJ Peeler, a RB from Virginia looks very solid on film and could be a very good college player. Also, I love what I see on film from Salath Williams, the kid can move for being 6’4″. If we can get a QB this could end up being a very solid class.

Herrion has done a fine job here and will be missed. Hate to see him go but best wishes if he does. I’ll guarantee that Dixon / Pederson has a contingency plan.

Here is the info on then new FB recruits .. Wanny did promise a bonanza a couple of weeks ago

Maybe it’s me, but I see a whole lot of 3 star players joining the program.

Mark, Note that Dieffenbach is rated 3 stars and Ricketts even isn’t rated by Scout.com. The fact is that it is very early to rate all these kids since they haven’t started their senior year yet.

Sure, some of the elite are rated 4 stars but if you look at Scout.com, the majority of recuits are listed as NR. (and of course as soon as a recruit commits to a big program, Rivals rates them at least 3 or 4 stars)

Lastly, McKillop, Sheard, Romeus, M Williams, Mustakas, HB Blades, G Williams, G Kinder, CJ Davis were all 2 or 3 stars that have developed nicely, to name just a few.

Correction on above post …. when I mentioned Rivals, I meant Scout.com and visa versa

Those 2 or 3 stars that have developed nicely clearly isn’t enough. Pitt has still proven to be a middle of the road Big East program under Wannstedt. He needs better players and the truth is his classes are getting worse.

Don’t pay too much attention to the “star” ranking. Look at who else was recruiting these kids. Wanny has “stolen” some promising talent from good programs.

I think if you look at who else offered these kids, they look even less impressive. I see a lot of lower BCS and MAC programs.
