Read the Oakland Zoo

Filed under: Basketball,Prognostications — Chas @ 4:09 pm

One of the things that has kept me busy for the past week or so has been the start of college basketball season and my duties to it at FanHouse. We’ve been running a slightly delayed top-25 preview series where the profiles (mostly) come from the bloggers that know their teams best.

Josh (Merlin) Verlin of the Oakland Zoo was kind enough to help out  and drop his knowledge on #8 Pitt. Go over and check it out.

After you are done with that, head over to the Oakland Zoo to see his conversation about the Akron Zips with an Akron student and the ABJ beat writer. Great stuff.

not that i’m biased, but i’d say listen to Chas

Cheek to Miami. Betcha he watched the game Monday night, saw our titanic young guards and thought no way he’d play right away for this juggernaut.

No, my guess is that Miami’s been slipping him something under the table in terms of $, but I can’t say for sure. Though PT is probably a factor…oh well at least this leaves us open for Cheek.

Hey steve, I think you mean Durand Scott.

Cheek is visiting on the 25th, trying to decide between us, Kansas, Nova and Rutgers.

Comment by James 11.19.08 @ 4:38 pm

According to Scott’s interview at Zagsblog, the key for him was “comfortability,” whatever the hell that is.

Still holding out hope for Cheek now that Memphis is out of the running…

Comment by Chris 11.19.08 @ 4:46 pm

Whoops, you’re right; Scott not Cheek. Sorry.

Comment by steve 11.19.08 @ 4:51 pm

Comfortability=$$$$$$

Comment by Mark 11.19.08 @ 5:07 pm

If this leads to Cheek signing with us then it’s all good. Miami probably showed Durand the Cuban booty and the young man fell forward. I wish Scott good fortune and success.

By the way, I enjoy reading your blog Merlin, thanks.

comfortability = chicks

can’t be mad at the kid. a 17 year old surrounded by all that tail? I wish him well

So Miami basketball is the new USC football of recruiting?

Comment by C 11.19.08 @ 7:21 pm

it looks like your link “Stiller/pens/Succos” (it does does not copy/paste to here right either) on #8 PITT is a dead link

Comment by IronManEE68 11.19.08 @ 10:15 pm

It’s too bad that Scott isn’t coming to Pitt — but at least he’s not going to uconn. Also, I like our chances with Cheek; His main concern seems to be playing time, and he can probably start right away at the 2 or 3 along with the nasty front court of blair and dante taylor.

It was money. I heard Dokish interviewed on the radio a few weeks ago and he hinted at that.
