Preseason BlogPoll — Help!

Filed under: Uncategorized — Chas @ 10:08 am

Every year that I do this, the only thing that I am certain is that I don’t know enough. It’s now a big part of my life to know more, read more, study college football and all it seems to do is muddle things when it comes time to do rankings.

I started doing the rankings and right away I was screwed. Starting with #1. I dropped Georgia after their injuries, but then found USC moving to the top but they are lost at QB right now. Then Florida rose to the top, and they have more ACL tears than Georgia so that didn’t make sense. Next thing I knew, Ohio State was number one — HELL NO! WVU? Not happening. Oklahoma? No way.

And that was just to pick #1.

So this is the monstrosity I ended up voting. I have absolutely no faith in it.

Rank Team Delta
1 Georgia 25
2 Southern Cal 24
3 Ohio State 23
4 West Virginia 22
5 Oklahoma 21
6 Florida 20
7 LSU 19
8 Missouri 18
9 Clemson 17
10 Arizona State 16
11 South Florida 15
12 Wake Forest 14
13 Texas Tech 13
14 Wisconsin 12
15 Auburn 11
16 Texas 10
17 Brigham Young 9
18 Virginia Tech 8
19 Pittsburgh 7
20 Penn State 6
21 Utah 5
22 North Carolina 4
23 Rutgers 3
24 Michigan State 2
25 Fresno State 1
Dropped Out:

Very, very strange. South Florida just kept rising when I was dinging teams. I actually really like UNC out of the ACC this year. Very similar to Pitt in terms of recruiting talent and close losses.

I received my season tickets in the mail on Saturday. In the envelope was a Panther Football Fan Guide. I flipped through it to see what was in there, since I don’t remember getting something this big before. Right there on page 5, a shocker….

“Alcohol:
Guests of Heinz Field must be 21 years or older to purchase/consume alcoholic beverages.” Maximum 2 beers per purchase. Further down on the page is a section on Designated Drivers. Gee, Steve P. is really pulling out all the stops to get people (students) in the seats. They are also having a Pitt pre-game tailgate on the grass next to Jerome Bettis’ Grill for students to party, with tailgte packs “filled with food and all the fixin’s. Grab a grill and enjoy live music, games and entertainment to get you fired up for the game”.

This should help the game day excitement in the lots.

No Illinois on the list? I guess I can understand why but I really think they will show up on your list sooner rather than later. They have been on every top 25 list I have seen so far. They could be very good this year.

I can’t believe O$U is in the top 10. Didn’t we go over this last year? After losing to USC, their second best game is against another mediocre big pretend program. You didn’t put Hawaii in the top 3 last year because they were expected to win most of their games, did you?

Didn’t LSU lose both their QBs? Isn’t the competition open?

“Unfortunately, Andrew, Hoss and Little Jordan cannot play quarterback as well as they can ride horses to Virginia City. And the spins are not from well-thrown footballs.

In fact, if you’re lucky enough to see the Tigers practice or scrimmage for longer than five minutes these days, you may feel like you’re at a baseball game. Keep your eyes out for foul passes. A couple of media members had to dodge errant tosses recently.”

I wonder what happens when a team is led by an inexperienced QB…can’t think of a recent example…hmmm…..

I also see an ACC team in the top 10. I don’t think that should be allowed.

I think you should Pitt ahead of VT in honor of having beat them the last 3 straight…

Lets beat Iowa first, then worry about rankings… haven’t beat a pretend program since 12-0. I was at mich st game 2 years ago, we shuda same as last year, but we didn’t…
