No One Is Getting Banned

The support and loyalty of everyone is always appreciated, even as it embarrasses me a little. It means a lot, since I’ve never actually met any of you except for Steve G. Hmm, there may be a bit of correlation.

Buzz is not getting banned for giving me some crap.

I have banned only a few people in the 4+ years of Pitt blogging. I don’t have hard fast rules that constitute banning, and I do give warnings. Buzz never approached anything that even had me considering banning him. Basically, to get banned you have to repeatedly do any or all of the following:

  • Personally attack people in the comments to the level of complete derangement (Buzz’s complaints do not even reach a threshold that would merit a warning).
  • Go after Pitt players on a personal level — it’s one thing to criticize their play, but to declare that a player is “garbage” or has some personal defect based on what they do on the field or court is not something I feel is acceptable in college.
  • Be a useless troll
  • Spam
  • I’m sure there are some other things, but they haven’t happened yet.

Now, I’m not sure who Buzz thinks started this blog, but I’ve been here from the beginning. I’ve been lucky to have several quality people who contribute. Dennis being the latest. But, others like Keith W., Shawn, Lee in Altoona State College, John, Harlan and Pat have all been here posting (and are still able to if they feel like it).

I don’t look to this site as a money maker. It has turned into something that has created opportunities for me outside of this, and that has been a great side effect. It was, however, never the goal when it started This is my fun stuff. The place where I can share all the news I would gather anyways, and offer my thoughts on them and Pitt basketball and football games.
That this site has increased in readership is fantastic, but here’s reality. The increase is more connected to what Pitt does, not what I or anyone else writes. When things are well, or there is active news, the numbers go up. Just take a look at the past 12 months and you can see what happened to readership during football season when things weren’t going well, and the spike in December when so much good stuff happened (beating WVU, recruiting news and beating Duke). Honestly, if I was only interested in increasing eyeballs, I’d just talk about recruiting. Nothing seems to help the hit count more than speculation on the future.

Now,  back to the fun.

i love this blog, now whats the word for GTOWN

The football coaches are working hard on getting Pryor to come. Pryor said he will be going to the game tomorrow, but we will see if he actually shows.

Rich how did you obtain this info not questioning it just wondering pretty intresting

Comment by Nick 01.13.08 @ 11:44 pm

I run a Pitt website that deals with football only. Rich is just my alias. I have contacts with several coaches and other people with in the athletics dept. Unfortunately due to the closeness I have with many of the University staff, I can’t write everything I learn about for 2 reasons. 1. I want to protect my university and not let negative information get out. 2. I fear being the reason for some type of recruiting violation, so have to try and remain as hidden as possible.

From out here in Portland on the left coast…a big THANK YOU for this site…it keeps me updated on PITT-centric things.

I appreciate Your style, how you operate the site, and why.

Keep up the great work—it is appreciated!

Hail to PITT!

I don’t know if anyone knows this, but this blog gets more visits than the larges State Penn blog…considering size differential, that’s amazing.

Rich- any news on this weekend recruits? Anyone committ or heavily leaning towards Pitt?

Also, what are the chance of landing Mr Jenkins from WV?

Lastly, Is pitt in the Pryor sweepstakes?

Comment by cdmoore25 01.14.08 @ 6:15 am

I can still post?

Cool. Well then… PENN STATE SUCKS!

I like the blog too..check it everyday (regardless of our record).

Any chance you could do more with recruiting? The pryor mention now has me even more interested in the game tonight.

Nothing too major after the weekend. I wouldn’t hold your breath with Jenkins. It is really a large up hill battle with OSU as the clear front runner. Hopefully they screw up his recruitment like they did with Shayne Hale.

Wannstedt talks to Pryor regularly so don’t count us out just yet. I want to think he has some interest in coming here but all of the signs we have received thus far do not look good. He also is the type of guy that it doesn’t matter what type of reaction he gets from the crowd at the game tonight, it probably won’t make a difference. He’s been having people kissing his a$$ for the better part of 2 years now and really loves the attention. All I can say is that the staff is not expecting to land him.

Zach Stoudt is back to being Pitt only again after his visit. He was thinking Louisville but told the coaches again this weekend that he will be coming to Pitt. His dad wants him here and he believes he can be the starter down the road.

We have 4 scholarships left to give and the staff really wants to use 2 of them on Holley and Alexander. The coaches met yesterday to breakdown their top 12 guys who have offers and rank them from 1-12 so that they can let the players know if you want to play here you will have to let us know fast because there are not many open spots available. It will be interesting to see if that technique can work in getting us a few more players or if it backfires on us.

Keep up the good work chas.

Rich,
Great Feedback. One point about the Pryor’s recruitment- Does Pryor have serious ambition of being a NFL QB? If yes, Pryor should look at RR’s track record of developing QBs for the pros. It is horrible. If Pryor really has an interest of being a pro QB, not a Ronald Curry, he must realize that RR is not the person to get him there. Yes, TP is a special talent but what does RR histroy say about his development of black QBs to the next level

Hey Rich- what happens if DW pull off the miracle and TP signs? Who do we lose and how can we use those new scholarships to strengthen or team? We all know that atleast two or three of the qbs will go elsewhere if that happens

great post-thanks rich.

Comment by matt'shouse 01.14.08 @ 2:14 pm

I think there will be a switch coming, maybe it will take some time, but the spread QBs will not dominate the NFL because the defenses are just too darn good.

The speed and size of the average NFL linebacker and DBs and even linemen make a spread QB an accident waiting to happen. And that means colleges may start to think twice about spread QBs…..it’s possible.

I wish Pryor well, but I am not holding my breath for him coming to Pitt, or for him ever getting to the NFL to play QB.

Well, I’m friends with Dennis on this site and I hope he doesn’t mind my shameless plug, but we have this site linked so I dont think it will matter. Anyways, it is http://www.thecatbasket.blogspot.com

Comment by Rich 01.14.08 @ 4:20 pm

I love Vince Young. I picked UT to beat USC in that game. I thought Young should have won the Heisman too. But Vince Young had a very average year; a QB rating of 71, 9 TD & 17 INT and 169 yards per game. He was sacked 25 times and fumbled 9 times. Only 4 players had a lower rating too.

I think it’s crazy to say that Pryor is better than Vince Young at this stage. I like to watch Pryor play. He’s a ton of fun to watch. But dominating AA ball does not make him Vince Young….at least not yet.

Now I am on my way to the game…Hail to Pitt

Comment by TZ 01.14.08 @ 4:54 pm

Yes, Vince Young is a great player but my concerns focus on RR ability to develop a QB. RR has never develop a QB for the next level. Woody Dantzler, Rasheed Marshall or I may have to give him credit for Shaun King from Tulane who played for Tamp Bay for a couple years.
I beleive that Pryor need to look at that track record and match it to his goal and see if it is viable. If yes, than go to Michigan but if the answer is no he needs to look elsewhere.
Is Pitt the answer? I dont know but I do know PSU is not the answer

Comment by cdmoore25 01.14.08 @ 6:20 pm

Holy Crap!!! We pounded the Hoyas. It was like a who’s who at the Pete tonight. Pryor was seated near the Pitt bench. The crowd chanted “We want Pryor” and he seemed to enjoy the attention. I think he was sitting with Charlie Batch. Many other celebs in the house as well. Coach Tomlin was there. Billy Knight, Sam Clancy, Mayor Luke just to name a few.
