Cat Basket and the Zoo

Filed under: Fans — Dennis @ 8:41 pm

With many thanks to DJP from The Cat Basket, I was able to procure a Cat Basket t-shirt which I wore around the great city of Wexford, Pennsylvania, today.

He also invited me to the Oakland Zoo’s Student Event. (I wish I could go but won’t be able to make it.) Student’s can meet the players and coaches, with pizza and prizes available.

It’s hard to believe basketball season is creeping up on us already.

Has anyone seen this yet?!?!?

You stay classy, PSU. I especially love how a week ago BSD was calling someone a “fucking liar” because PSU fans “don’t act like that.”

These shirts are pretty lame.

Stuart,

I saw it and I was going to post it, but I also didn’t want to inundate the comment section with a pissing contest over stuff like this, especially with some of the BSD guys.

That said…

I don’t know how you possibly defend that. I read some comments on EDSBS saying the whole thing was staged. I don’t believe that for a second because there was just a bit too much vitriol being spewed there. Dude in the Clarrett jersey got pegged two or three times by what looked to be at least somewhat-full beer cans; that does constitute battery.

Now…we don’t know if the Ohio State fans did anything to incite this crowd. I would hope that simply walking by wearing the colors of another team wouldn’t elicit this kind of reaction. But you only need to walk through the parking lots at Heinz on a Steeler Sunday for a couple of minutes to know that’s not the case.

I also know the entire Penn State campus was probably not like this over the weekend, and I feel bad for all the good fans who get their names dragged through the mud because of stuff like this.

And I’m sure we’ll hear that this kind of stuff doesn’t happen – at least in isolated incidents – at many other schools across the country, including Pitt. Tony Caridi – one of the WVU broadcasters – was on Bendel & Benz a couple of weeks ago discussing some horror stories about stuff that he either saw or heard that went on in the stands and in the parking lots at the USF-WVU game. And a few years ago, my brother-in-law attempted to help break up a fight between some Pitt fans and WVU fans in the stands at Heinz and damn near got pulled into it when the fight resumed a few minutes later.

Does it really, though? I’m more inclined to think that this DOESN’T happen on every campus. I was at the Oklahoma-ND game in 1999 and from everything I saw, the atmosphere was nothing like this anywhere on campus. Oklahoma fans were everywhere on ND’s campus on gameday, and I can’t tell you how many times ND fans were inviting Sooners fans into their tailgates to BS about each other’s teams and vice versa.

If this was real, it was incredibly stupid. And now that it’s found its way onto one of the most visible college football blogs in the country, it sure won’t do PSU any favors (to say nothing of the beer-throwing incident at the Gameday set when Corso picked OSU to win).

Correction…

I said, “And I’m sure we’ll hear that this kind of stuff doesn’t happen – at least in isolated incidents – at many other schools across the country, including Pitt.”

I SHOULD’VE said…
“And I’m sure we’ll hear that this kind of stuff DOES happen – at least in isolated incidents – at many other schools across the country, including Pitt.”

I would’ve caught it, but I just got nailed in the head by a flying beer can.

ZING!

Actually those shirts are kind of sweet. Much better than those ugly ass code blue shirts. I just don’t get why a blog needs their own shirt, but to each their own I suppose.

Oh – and the criminals don’t even clean the stadium anymore, they stopped weeks ago. No word on the second fight they had a few weeks ago either…guess that was swept under the rug.

Of course they have to be even more classy by trying to blame either A) the kids for being there and “staging” it, or B) Pitt – no i’m not kidding – because in the video they said the one kid was from Pittsburgh. Pure trash they have out there.
