Good news during the slow news time. College football previews are getting released. In the last two weeks, Lindy’s and Athlon have been released. This week could be the big one. Phil Steele’s college preview might hit the newsstands.

So far, Pitt has been “ranked” at #60 and 55 in the two pubs that have been released. In other words, lower half of the BCS teams and middle of college football overall. Not too surprising there.

Pitt is being picked for 6th in the Big East behind Cinci. Now that just hurts.

DW’s last year of the honeymoon

don’t worry…shady will steamroll us to a bcs game…or at least a .500 season…

Comment by sid 06.05.07 @ 3:57 pm

That does hurt, but at the risk of getting berated for excessive pessimism, how can anyone doubt we’ll struggle just to be .500? We won’t be favored to win even one game on the road. Navy and USF will likely be favored to beat us at home. Accounting for one or two upsets either for or against, it adds up to 5-7 or 6-6. Relying on so many new players at so many key positions to be excellent in their first season simultaneously just is not likely, and the alternative (the subpar upperclassmen in reserve) is worse. No shame at all, but it simply is what is for this season.

IF DAVE can’t do it with this team and this schedule….that is garner a winning record this year, he will never be able to do it…and if that is the case, then I say let’s start looking for a better replacement.

All: we will suck this year. Next year has to be the year. Favorable schedule, all Wanny recruits. This is a throw away year….put in the freshman and let them get experience.

Jon C is 100% right, couldnt have said it better

Bull, there’s talent enough, and enough experience, for this year’s team to be competative. These magazines do little or no research outside of their top 25 listing, so reading what they have to say and basing a projection on that is ludicrious.

We might just end up around .500%, but we could easily do better than that. To go into the season assuming he will lose games and therefore play all the freshman is a disservice to the team, and I’m sure DW will approach things differently. And, of course, that strikes to the heart of the redshirt or not debate that pops up monthly.

I would love to believe we have a shot at something this year, but the defense was so bad last year and we just lost our best two D players. Unless the D line is just unbelievably better than last year, don’t get your hopes up. We could have the best offense in the country and still be an average team.
