This nugget from Andy Katz at ESPN.com (Insider subs.) is very exciting.

Pitt is trying to rework some scheduling conflicts so it can play Duke in Madison Square Garden in December.

Oooohhh.

UPDATE (3:42): One of the games that Pitt might be trying to reschedule might be the December 15 home game against Oklahoma State.

The Cowboys’ return game from last year’s All-College Classic against Pitt is tentatively scheduled for Dec. 15 at the Petersen Events Center. That location — the Panthers’ home court — might be a tough one for OSU fans to swallow since it has previously been a neutral-neutral series (like last year’s game against Tennessee in Nashville). But head coach Sean Sutton said he’s happy with the deal because of a guarantee that Pitt will play in Stillwater sometime in the future.

I forgot about the OK State game as well. That would mean road games at Dayton and Washington, a home game with OK State and a neutral court with Duke. The Big East will be an 18 game schedule next year. Even with all patsies for the rest of the non-con (about 8 more games), that’s a hell of a good schedule.

Nice.

Any hope for a Big East vs. ACC yearly tournament or series of games?

Marco,

No.

Not going to happen.

The best to offer is the lesser version of the SEC-Big East challenge of only 4 teams per year.

I would love to see us play Duke. If it’s in NYC, then we have a shot to beat them on national television….could be a win or loss that people talk about til march.

I will have to be at the Garden for that game!

Didn’t we play Oklahoma State at a neutral court that happened to be in Oklahoma last year? They shouldn’t be complaining.

In any case… I would love to see Pitt win a big game like that next year! A win over Duke would really be big for the program.

I looked it up; the game against OSU last year was in Oklahoma City.

Why don’t we just play them at Mellon Arena and call it a neutral site game? Quid pro quo.

Since the OK St coach says that it’s agreed that Pitt has to play in Stillwater in the future, then they definitely have to come to the Pete. I don’t understand though how Oklahoma City could be considered a neutral site. I’m glad to see that Pitt is continuing to schedule tougher schools. We just need to start winning some of these games on the road this season. We’re going to need some marquee wins in order to get into the tournament next yr.

The game was in the state of Oklahoma, but it was in Oklahoma City. About 65 miles away as part of a one-day event with the Sooners playing as well. No not a strictly neutral site, but not a normal home game with the familiarity. Like the Tennessee game in Nashville rather than Knoxville (180 miles difference) the article cites.

I guess — for comparison’s sake — if Pitt played the game in Erie or say the Giant Center in Hershey. Clearly, the crowd would be pro-Pitt, but it wouldn’t exactly be a home game for Pitt.

Is there a suitable venue in Johnstown for the game? The distance is about right (~65 miles) and Pitt has a campus there like OSU-Oklahoma City. It would be considered a “neutral site”, right?

Downtown Johnstown has the War Memorial Arena. Maybe Dixon can get the Hanson Brothers to show up and “goon up” Coach Sutton!

News like this is why the b’ball program has become so popular among Pitt fans
