Rhoads Death Watch

The Iowa State rumors won’t go away. Though no timetable is set in Ames. Rhoads does, afterall, have ties to the program.

Rhoads, defensive coordinator at Pittsburgh, was McCarney’s secondary coach between 1995 and ’99. He is an Ankeny native.

ISU has to at least interview him. Let that charm work its magic.

He would be a excellent choice. We should all rally around him.

Comment by TGPanther 11.15.06 @ 5:25 pm

ISU will interview him, my understanding is that the ISU head job, woops, sorry, head coaching job pays around 250K plus incentives. Thats not alot of cash compared to other head coaching positions (isn’t W making a cool one mil?),so maybe, just maybe Rhodes can charm them (or bullshit) the administration like he does here.

GO HOME RHOADS IOWA IS CALLING. (aka ISU is Paul’s dream job) yeah, now thats the ticket and strategy Rhodes must use.

Sorry about spelling his name wrong, no matter if it is spelled Rhodes or Rhoads, it just really doesn’t matter anymore.

Comment by Jimbo B 11.15.06 @ 7:30 pm

I thought that that I heard DW insisted that both coordinators make at least $250K.

Comment by PantherSig 11.15.06 @ 10:18 pm

It’s spelled Rhoes. No D.

Comment by baudolino 11.15.06 @ 10:35 pm

if rhoes is making 250K then i will stop my donation, he sucks!

Comment by Jimbo B 11.15.06 @ 11:07 pm

If WVU scores less than 50, then I can only imagine it is so we don’t fire Rhoads.

Comment by Jon C 11.15.06 @ 11:27 pm

baudolino Zing!

Comment by Chris 11.15.06 @ 11:35 pm

We can’t win tomorrow here’s why.

1 WVU runs the ball very well
2 We can’t stop the run
3 If there was a chance it would involve us taking chances on both sides of the ball & none of our coaches are willing to hold the dice let alone roll them.

I will be there making the trip from Harrisburg and just recovering from the flu to watch us get run over again and again. At least I won’t have to worry about over doing it by cheering to much.

I couldnt bare to travel to Pittsburgh (from DC), take 2 days off work just to watch the stomping that is coming to us. I can not see any way we hold them to under 50. This should be the nail in the coffin for Rhoads. Please take the Iowa job and get out of town before they change their mind.

By the way #3 Kansas went down last night on their home court to Oral Roberts.

ORAL ROBERTS WENT DOWN ON KANSAS!?!?! NICE!

A quick question to my fellow panther alumni and fans: If Pitt goes 6-6 and is invited to a bowl game, should they accept the bowl bid?

My personal feeling is no, I think it shows pride and says hey we dont deserve it. It also makes a statement that we expect more.

On the other hand is it worth accepting just to say we made a bowl game? Or perhaps give the seniors a somewhat positive send off? Or to give the younger players some inspiration? Or I guess the real bottom line is a bowl payday.

Comment by Rex 11.16.06 @ 7:53 am

I vote yes for a bowl bid….even a minor one….it gives Pitt an extra month of practices..(maybe we can teach the D to tackle during that timeframe)….it also provides Seniors a nice send off and more opportunity to show some progress….even a side step this year has turned into….because next year…..ain’t no way Pitt will be on the good side in the W column….

Comment by Deter 11.16.06 @ 9:09 am

Take the bowl – why punish the team and their families that use it as a vacation.

Comment by Reed 11.16.06 @ 12:16 pm

I agree that we take the bowl but then again if we lose were 6-7. Not that it means much to be .500 or have another losing year at this point. I think West Virginia puts up 40 on us but we will keep it close at least early because we have nothing to gain at this point and will play wreckless. Who knows maybe we stun one of the two giants long enough to win one. Man, Humans and their Hope.

Of course take the bowl bid. The extra 3 weeks of practice would be worth it by itself.
Beyond that, Big East teams can use the extra shared bowl money.
