Whoops

Hey folks, sorry to go dead without warning yesterday. It surprised me. The DSL went out yesterday. That was a day early. We are finally getting back into our house this weekend and the DSL was to be switched over today. Seems AT&T went a day early. Posting may be spotty this weekend. Roughly 72 hours until DirecTV arrives. Not that I’m clock watching or anything.
Thankfully, this is basketball season and Denis at Pitt Hoops is there to provide a fix as well. Don’t forget about him.

Congrats on getting back into the house. Hopefully the move goes smoothly.
You’ll have to keep us up to date on your switch to DirectTV. I’ve been debating it myself. Two things are keeping me with Bright House cable for the moment, however:
1) Signal degradation during bad weather (bad experience at a buddy’s house during the ND/Pitt game a few years back).
2) Lack of a HDTV/DVR combo box at the moment. Brighthouse gives me both of those features in one box.

Comment by Dave 12.08.06 @ 2:14 pm

I just signed up last week. They do have the HDTV/DVR box and you get can all the Fox sports stations including Pitts for $5.99 per month. (I’m in for Basketball only and will drop it in March) My Hi Def stations are unreal. The locals not so much. I can’t speak to the bad weather at this point as we have yet to have a storm but they have a $20.00 discount per month for 10 months right now that’s not a bad deal on all the Hi def plans. Chas glad to hear that you are back at your place.

Thanks for the update Tony. I’ll look into it.

Looks like RR is staying at WVU for the time being, at least as reported by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Comment by Reed 12.08.06 @ 5:01 pm

Yup, Rich is staying at WVU.

Good to hear you’ll be back in the house soon Chas.

Comment by Dennis 12.08.06 @ 5:07 pm

Three years ago when the BE was given an alleged knock-out blow by the loss of BC, VT and UM, would anyone have thought that BE coaches would be saying “No thanks” to likes of UM and Alabama? This conference is going beyond competitive to impressive. I just read a report that said RR’s deal at WVU will be “in the neighborhood” of what Bama was offering, and that GS at RU will soon have a 10 Yr $20M deal…If DW was not motivated to win before he should be now. Top coaching jobs in the BE are now in the $2M a year category. That’s not a “stepping stone” job, it’s a granite foundation. While I hate WVU, I could not be more happe for the BE. Here’s hoping DW is next $2M a year man!

Comment by Frank 12.08.06 @ 5:31 pm

er. ah..”happy”!

Comment by Frank 12.08.06 @ 5:32 pm

And even the coaches who are at the “lower” BE schools (Cincy) are able to get jobs in other power conferences.

Comment by Dennis 12.08.06 @ 5:50 pm

yup boys and girls, all of this love an joy about the coaching – remember WE have Rhoads!!!!! That is great coaching, who cares about the other schools when we have the best dc around! I just hope that RR at wvu doesn’t try and whooo him away from US!!

RHOADS IS KING!!!!!!!!!!

FYI Pitt bball fans:

GOTO : CN8 (Comcast/phila.subs) to watch Pitt Commit (2007) Wannamaker, Bradley — and his twin bro. “Bryan” (or likely, rather; Brian).

As advertised, this is a High School gm. ; Roman Catholic (HS) — considering PIAA (again : phila. school sys. — vs. “A very gd. [Germantown Acad. (“GA:)] team tonight…”

Currently at the 1/2 waty pt.: Bradley (Roman HS) is giving the gas to G.A. — it’s somewhat of a spanking at this point — score: 38-23 — w/Laurels to he and his twin.

Gd. looking prospect at; athletic (yes) and looks TRUE to position at Grd.

“Pitt’s done a gd. job of recruiting these kind of players…”who’d of thought Aarron Gray?”… [he] could flourish in the Big East… (blah-too-much-talk-blah)…”

Comment by Neil 12.08.06 @ 8:10 pm

Neil, I couldn’t for the life of me decipher your post above. I gather that a PITT commit is playing on television and you were watching it.

Comment by Reed 12.09.06 @ 7:58 am

Reed, you actually have to read it twice for the essence to emerge: Neil very much likes what he sees in Pitt recruit Bradley Wannamaker, an athletic guard. And he would like to either spank him or be spanked by him.

Neil, here’s my question: Is young Mr. Wannamaker a descendant of the famous Wannamaker department store Wannamakers?

For everyone’s info in DC, MASN is showing the Pitt-Buffalo game at 4.

Comment by Aaron 12.09.06 @ 1:05 pm

Down by 11 to UB. Pitt goes to zone for the first time all year.

Comment by Dave in Orlando 12.09.06 @ 4:26 pm

what the hell is wrong? can’t get the game where I’m at

Comment by Jon C 12.09.06 @ 4:31 pm

Buff on pace to score 100. If we are doing something different on D we need to stop

Comment by Jon C 12.09.06 @ 4:33 pm

Jon C,

Try listening the web at 970 AM.

Comment by Dave in Orlando 12.09.06 @ 4:36 pm

Aaron – thanks for letting me and everyone else in the DC area know that the Pitt game is on MASN. Of course, I’m in Jacksonville this weekend visiting the in-laws which means not on TV.

Anyway, I see that Pitt’s down by 11 with about 7 minutes left in the first half. What’s going on in Buffalo? Is Buffalo really fired up and playing well or is Pitt playing poorly or both?

Comment by Sean 12.09.06 @ 4:36 pm

Is Paul Rhodes coaching our defense right now?

Comment by Jon C 12.09.06 @ 4:36 pm

UB and is firing on all cylinders and their crowd is really into it. Alumni Hall is a tough place to play. Basically an over-sized high school gym.
Giving up too many easy shots. Tried both man and zone, neither is working.
Doesn’t seem like we’re getting the ball into Gray at all. Noticing a trend here…

Comment by Dave in Orlando 12.09.06 @ 4:42 pm

Ummm… is it me or are we shitting the bed against Buffalo today?

Sorry, I can’t see the game where I’m at… what the hell is going on here?!!?!

Comment by Jimbo Covert's my dad 12.09.06 @ 4:48 pm

Gotta pat myself on the back for predicting zone defense. Keeps A.G. where he’s needed the most.

Never fear, Buffalo starting to shoot more normally. As per usual, we’ll wear ’em down.

Comment by steve 12.09.06 @ 4:54 pm

Crazy score of the day:

Air Force 50-6 over Colorado College at the half.

Comment by Dave in Orlando 12.09.06 @ 4:56 pm

Nice call on the zone steve. It worked for a couple of possesions too.

Comment by Omar 12.09.06 @ 4:57 pm

Thanks Omar. Now let’s win it.

Comment by steve 12.09.06 @ 4:58 pm

Cook is playing very well. Rebounding, passing and creating…

Comment by Dave in Orlando 12.09.06 @ 5:07 pm

How many layups can we miss?

Comment by Dave in Orlando 12.09.06 @ 5:17 pm

wannstedt is already a $2 million/year man I believe, sure would’t want bama or any of these lesser schools taking him away from us!!

Comment by Kurt 12.10.06 @ 11:57 am

MASN is great for being in the DC area, they broadcast a lot of the Pitt basketball games and I was able to pick up a few of the football games during the year as well.
