LiveBlog: Tenn-Pitt

Big game today. Liveblog will kick in sometime around 3:15. The game’s start is not necessarily going to be on time since it follows the thrilling Rutgers-Auburn game.

As usual it is a moderated chat. Luke will start out in control of things. Let’s try and stay on the basketball side of things. Just this once. I’m stuck on DVR delay due to family obligations.

Liveblog is below. If you need to break the liveblog out from the site, Click Here.

We gonna rock down to electric avenue…and then we’ll take it HIGHER.

Were 9 point favorites. Who are we playing, Duquesne?

Comment by alcofan 12.11.10 @ 10:28 am

Can’t wait to see how we play in this one. Gil Brown needs to show up and we’ll see how Taylor does against some better competition. Neither team shoots FT’s well….could be a big factor if one squad shoots a little better from the line than usual in what is shaping up to be a close game. Was a little surprised to see Vegas put Pitt as 8-point favorite….seems a bit high to me. C’mon Panthers, make a statement today.

Comment by WorkinOnMyPittness 12.11.10 @ 10:31 am

Umm,

#11 (Tenn) – #3 (Pitt) = 8 point favorite Pitt.

We’ll see how the whole team does against better competition. I hope Wanamaker can keep it under control along with Brown showing up.

Hail to Pitt.

11-0 baby!

Got a neighbor who is a rabid UT fan, he thinks they are going to try and run and gun, chuck up a bunch of 3’s and try to push Pitt into an uptempo game.

Obviously, that won’t work. We may want to entertain an uptempo game in spurts, but no team in America gets the opponent to play THEIR style of play than Pitt.

We have been making some real progress on the turnover front. Wannamaker has been playing better as of late…which is a key.

These are the types of games where Senior leadership needs to shine.

PS– Early Bracketology has Pitt and Ohio State as #1 seeds; playing first round in Cleveland. Our second game matchup would be a #8 seed Temple (recently upset Georgetown). FWIW– it’s early, but maybe a Pittblather party in Cleveland???

Comment by POLE 12.11.10 @ 3:44 pm

dont worry abought it we still have a good team we will win over 20 games they are a good team just dont have enough good offensive players come the end of year JJ MORE will help that problem if he is used more. you can only win so meany games with good D and hustle. we are miissing that one great player that some outher teams have but we will be ok just not a final four team but we will be ok dont give up we will win 21 games or so.

It appears Dixon is giving the fans a preview of this year’s tournament team today. If our big men could do anything but dunk, I would fall off my chair. Gibbs is giving you his usual performance when a team can guard, and Brown is his normal no show. I love when Dixon goes to his small line up and basically puts four guards on the floor. Why put size underneath, it only makes it more difficult for a good rebounding team to rebound. And please keep Patterson on the floor, he gives the other team a real lift. Well, it’s only half time, so I’m confident Dixon will figure out some other crazy line ups to put on the floor.

Comment by ltl49 12.11.10 @ 4:36 pm

DONT BE NEGATIVE YOU HAD TO KNOW WE DIDENT HAVE A GOOD ENOUGH OFFENSIVE PLAYER TO GO TO FINAL FOUR- BUT WE WILL WIN ARE 20 GAMES WITH THE PLAYERS WE HAVE WE WILL BE GOOD NOT GREAT. DONT GET DOWN ON TEAM WE WILL WIN A LOT BUT GOOD d AND HUSTLE ONLY GO SO FAR UNTILL YOU GET A TOP PLAYER THAT IS THE WAY IT IS . NEXT YRAR WE GET A TOP 4 PLAYER RIGHT KRIM BERCH THEN WILL SEE BUT HANG IN THERE WII GET OUR 20.

Just another overrated fraud of a Pitt team. Smashed at home by a team they’re “supposedly” better than. Sigh

First thing i agree with you on frank i would like to hear names.

Comment by POLE 12.11.10 @ 5:47 pm

Don’t see us getting to the proverbial ‘next level’ as long as (and don’t get me wrong, I like McGhee & Robinson) McGhee & Robinson are getting the major minutes at their respective positions. They would be ok, with their energy, coming off the bench, but they don’t give you much of anything offensively from 2 frontcourt positions.

And mind you, Tennessee didn’t have much of anything in the frontcourt. As there 3 best players are ALL guards. If we play a good team with a good frontcourt, we’ll get beat unless those guys get into foul trouble. But that is highly unlikely because McGhee & Robinson aren’t that talented offensively to get them into foul trouble.

Much as I hate to say this, it would have been better for the team, had Robinson’s injury lasted longer, as to give Zanna more time to play. As he has regressed since his 14 & 12 nite against Maryland at MSG and upon Robinson’s return.

Again I love both Gary & Nas, just being honest.

POLE did hear a name that has not been on a lot of lists pat shurmur NFL oc for rams have you hard that one.

Comment by FRANKCAN 12.11.10 @ 5:55 pm

Another big loss on national TV. Lets run this coach out of town. We are PITT, we should be national champ every year. This coach is a disgrace.

(wanny supporter, had to say it, sorry)

Comment by mike 12.11.10 @ 6:26 pm

Zhanna has twice the upside of Robinson, but Dixon’s failure to get him more experience will be the downfall of this year’s team. Zhanna is a star in the making, but so was Sam Young, but we all know how long it took Dixon to truly treat Sam as a starter. Also, if JJ Moore got a chance to get a sweat up, we won’t have to put up with the inconsistent play of Brown. I believe we have the horses for a deep run into the tournament, but Dixon must first stop his wild substituting. Playing Patterson, as much as, if not more, than jj Moore is insane. Furthermore, playing Woodall as much as he does is also a major mistake in my opinion. Finally, I think it’s time to allow Taylor to show he is the man in the middle. I love McGhee’s heart, but again the upside of Taylor far exceeds McGhee’s

FRANKCAN – what I think is that it’s weird when 75% of your posts are all capitals and then you switch to regular text sometimes.

Comment by Reed 12.12.10 @ 3:58 am

FRANKCAN-That last comment bothered me more than you could possibly understand. The entire statement is one massive run-on sentence and your ignorance of grammar is highlighted by the fact that you capitalized the entire comment.

To return my focus to the game, this matchup showed that, once again, Pitt does not have a player that can take over a game. Gibbs and Wannamaker are both solid players, but neither are explosive athletes. I understand that Jamie Dixon recruits players that fit Pitt’s tough, defensive mentality, however, is it too much to ask for a player along the lines of Kemba Walker?
