7pm, ACC Network Extra/WatchESPN

Have to admit, I like Pitt’s chances tonight. The — Google’s “Mount St. Mary’s mascot,” double-takes, clicks a few links to verify, well, okay then — Mountaineers of Mount St. Mary’s in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Oh, my. Their mascot is one, “Emmit S. Burg.” Oh, and let’s not get started on drowning bunnies.

Sorry, definitely went down a rabbit hole.

Other then in turnovers, MSM is worse then Pitt in just about every major statistical category. Worse offense, defense. Hell, they are even worse at offensive rebounding percentage then Pitt. That is hard to do.

They have been a patsy home buy game this season with 20+ point losses at Georgetown, ND, Marquette, and Ohio. They have 2 non-con games on their schedule against D-II opponents.

Pitt is 72-1 against NEC opponents. This is not the Dan Hurley coached Wagner team that beat Pitt in 2011.

Good start vs bad team.

Wilson frame seems to be getting phased out.

Comment by alcofan 12.05.17 @ 7:29 pm

9 Turnovers for Pitt. 5 for Mt Saint Helens.

Comment by alcofan 12.05.17 @ 7:38 pm

Ah – an ok 1st half. Still look sloppy. JWF and Luther are stone cold tonight.

Missing layups and tip-ins tonight. Still winning though.

Comment by Erie Express 12.05.17 @ 8:21 pm

Uh-Oh – the Mounties are charging back – within 2 with 3 minutes to play.

Comment by Erie Express 12.05.17 @ 8:44 pm

After being up by 13 – Pitt let’s the lead dwindle to 2 and FINALLY Stallings calls a time out.

What was he keeping them for, his grandkids?

Geez!

Comment by Erie Express 12.05.17 @ 8:47 pm

Again, missing layups and tip-ins

Down 1 with little time on the clock

Comment by Erie Express 12.05.17 @ 8:51 pm

Missing free throws too.

Not much to lyke about this game – crossing my fingers for a win…

This game doesn’t exactly give me confidence in ks call me crazy

Comment by Steve 12.05.17 @ 9:02 pm

Terrible last second play.

Comment by alcofan 12.05.17 @ 9:03 pm

Bobby Planutis made Two Point Tip Shot off of an offensive rebound.

No one blocking out with the game on the line.

By the way, those were Bobby’s 1st two points of the game after going 0-4.

Comment by Erie Express 12.05.17 @ 9:03 pm

Waiting for Tossing and a positive comments.

Glad Heather Lyke is in control of this forest fire known as Stallings. Hey positive is only 376 people are watching this in person and half of them are Pitt Employees or Otis’s Family.

FR Marcus Carr ices the Mounties.

Is Mt St Mary’s a D2 school? I think they were when I was in school in the early 80’s.

Pitt has a winning record!!! Lovin’ it!!!

H2KS!!!

Entire team stinks. Freshman all the way up to Otis. 175M Arena and we draw 378 people. No one cares, Gallagher hire Pumpkin Head Barnes, now Lyke, geritol stallings, board it up and save the Fanta Heather.

Pitt kicker Ian Troost has left the team. He has one season of eligibility remaining, but he wants to spend his final two semesters of college focusing on academics and social justice initiatives.

Tvax Yes Sir. We are killing all the Point Parks of the world. Next week we play Mount Hood Juco and Mt. Everest Tech School. We are awesome.

Comment by Upittbaseball 12.05.17 @ 9:26 pm

Erie – Tell him to go kneel some more..

Steve H – It wouldn’t surprise me. We beat Miami who got 17 yards of offense against Clemson and Heather would do something so stupid.

Comment by Upittbaseball 12.05.17 @ 9:27 pm

UPitt – please don’t make the blanket statement that “no one cares”.

Lots of fans do, but can’t seem to make an impact with the Pitt administration. I’ve written letters and talked face to face with peeps in the AD office. Academics is priority #1.

The definition of embarrassment has a different meaning to the top admin folks than what we fans see as embarrassing.

Just my 2 cents..

Comment by Erie Express 12.05.17 @ 9:29 pm

If they do sign him it’s just a reaction to all open coaching positions

Comment by Steve h 12.05.17 @ 9:30 pm

Next week our men’s BB team plays wvcc – now that could get really embarrassing for us fans.

KS will collect his paycheck and the Pitt admin will look the other way while sipping tea.

Comment by Erie Express 12.05.17 @ 9:31 pm

Would have liked to see what he does next year before an extension

Comment by Steve h 12.05.17 @ 9:32 pm

Now we know why Terrell Brown doesn’t play. When Luther went out with his 4th foul Brown was a defensive liability. That’s when the Mount went on their run

Comment by Steve h 12.05.17 @ 9:34 pm

7 years for a guy that the only school that would hire him is the MAC as a D.C.

She is more ignorant than I thought.

5-7. Sure let’s sign you till 2089.

Erie – The crowd was less than 1500. You are right about 4K people in the US care. That is it.

Comment by Upittbaseball 12.05.17 @ 9:39 pm

Can’t wait for the tricks HCKS has in store for the Hoopies.

Sad game tonight. I thought last game with the reduced TO’s, we would maybe have something to hope for and now I can’t even really hope for a nice little upset from this team.

Years ago I was wishing I lived close to have season tickets and certainly would have tolerated a down year or 2. If I had them now, they would not have been renewed. In fact THAT would have happened if not at the Pumpkinhead presser to intro HCKS, then certainly after they agreed to pay Herman after he announced his intention to leave. I am not mad at KS, but the Adams family will never be the same for me.

Comment by tvax1 12.05.17 @ 9:51 pm

Tvax – We are probably still paying his insurance. I wouldnt let Gallagher hire a frue cook.

Comment by Upittbaseball 12.05.17 @ 9:57 pm

UPitt -haven’t seen you on here for awhile., at least since Pitt has won a few. Certainly no compliment after Miami game. You are right -Pitt stinks in all sports, lousy facilities, bad coaches and admin, won’t spend anything, doesn’t care. Why do you? I’ve never seen you write a positive thing about Pitt. I’m not even trying to be critical -just trying to understand what the motivation is to write when you never seem to have anything to say but negatives.

Comment by AnotherClancyRebound 12.05.17 @ 10:02 pm

@Upitt, I don’t even know what a frue cook is, but I am with you. LOL!!!

Comment by tvax1 12.05.17 @ 10:02 pm

Upitt is venting and lets face it, Pitt gives his negative bent a crapload of ammunition.

Used to bug me a little, but now that I have experienced the disaster that was Herman and the decline of JD and the basketball program, there is a lot to complain about.

I am not ready to give up on HCPN, but hope to see a step back in the right direction these next 2 years starting with recruiting this year and next. I don’t want to see KP wasted over the next 2 or 3 years he is here.

Comment by tvax1 12.05.17 @ 10:12 pm

Clancy – Won a few? You mean against this garbage teams like Mount Hood Juco? I report what I see and the whole department is a mess other than volleyball. Facilities??? The basketball arena that was built n place of our stadium to draw 867 people tonight? Or the one we rent from Rooney’s teet?

Baseball and Softball facilities that I played on better high school fields in the south. Herman? Oh paying for him to move back to Oregon? Keep him on payroll! Oh Heather who gives you a Fanta to stay till the end of the game. Hasn’t espn brought he amateur hour to attention? Wanna talk about the 6 year 3M contract for a turd who was being fired from Vandy? Oh the search firm who pumpkin head used? More you say?

Comment by Upittbaseball 12.05.17 @ 10:21 pm

Fry cook

Comment by Upittbaseball 12.05.17 @ 10:22 pm

Beating Miami. Clemson held them to 17 yards offense. Way to go Narduzzi. Let’s sign you till 2056 because Kent State was calling. He sucks. Conklin sucks. And Watson called one good game out of 12

Comment by Upittbaseball 12.05.17 @ 10:24 pm

Pulled this from David Hale of ESPN –

ACC Power Rankings (just ahead of FSU)
8. Pittsburgh Panthers (5-7, 3-5). There will be no bowl game for Pitt, thanks to a failure to get in on four chances from the 1-yard line against Virginia Tech, a three-point loss to UNC and a narrow defeat against Syracuse. But the way Pitt finished in spite of all that went wrong is encouraging, and the Panthers should open 2018 as a legitimate contender in their division.

Comment by Erie Express 12.05.17 @ 10:34 pm

Not even a ‘nice game’ after the Miami win?
The negativity would carry more weight if there was an occasional positive.
For all the complaints about no on campus stadium -and I do wish there was -it sure seems like every interview with potential recruits they comment on how cool it is to be able to practice next to the Steelers.

Comment by AnotherClancyrebound 12.05.17 @ 10:37 pm

Comment by Jackagain 12.05.17 @ 10:44 pm

I was more impressed with the VT effort and said so. Then 4 plays from 1 happened. Miami is weak during the day and not in front of home crowd. UVA was smoking them the week before us. Heinz gets the opponents more jazzed. Narduzzi gets a C so far. Not enough for a 7 year BS extension. We will be stuck with him just because we are satisfied with 6-7 win seasons.

Comment by Upittbaseball 12.05.17 @ 10:47 pm

A look at the couple thousand (cough) in attendance.

Comment by Jackagain 12.05.17 @ 10:52 pm

I agree with Steve, a lot of schools are looking for a coach now and we can’t do this again. It would blow up the whole program.

Comment by Jackagain 12.05.17 @ 10:54 pm

Thanks for that UPitt. I’d give Narduzzi a B and I think next year is when we see what he can do. I’d like to see an on campus stadium but anyone who remembers Pitt stadium with fondness had way too much to drink. My dad captained Pitt’s baseball team in the early 50’s and you probably kicked around the same rocks on the same field. I will cheer for Pitt good or bad and criticize when appropriate -and there is lots – but there are good things happening too. Especially when you look at all the crap at some other schools.

Comment by AnotherClancyRebound 12.05.17 @ 11:04 pm

What fan base would allow a 5-7 coach to be hired. Better yet what AD???? He has zero leverage. Lyke has the business accumen of a village idiot.

Comment by Upittbaseball 12.05.17 @ 11:05 pm

Clancy – I played at Trees and a I have no doubt about those rocks. Funny was the infield was all grass and lumpy. LOL. There were teams that refused to play on that field. It was very sad. Great story on your Dad. Gives me some pride tonight. Good night buddy. What position did Dad play?

Comment by Upittbaseball 12.05.17 @ 11:08 pm

UPitt -my dad played 2nd base and was drafted by Red Sox. didn’t sign -back then baseball was a second job and he didn’t think he was good enough to make it a career. Old family story -when dad was a high school senior he played shortstop for Munhall. Back then before WPIAL, there was a city and a county all star team. Dad made the county all star but was placed at second base instead of shortstop. He was pissed because he thought he was a better player than the one they chose for shortstop. The other guy they picked was Dick Groat.

Comment by AnotherClancyRebound 12.05.17 @ 11:19 pm

Wow! Really cool story. Sad they couldn’t Chase the dream back then. I coached at Baldwin one spring when I was done playing. We had one of the best seasons ever then. I think we coached 7/8th graders but smoked all the teams.

Comment by Upittbaseball 12.05.17 @ 11:31 pm

I think Munhall is near there eh?

Comment by Upittbaseball 12.05.17 @ 11:31 pm

Munhall is in between Homestead and West Mifflin. Everyone worked in the mills or the mines or affiliated jobs. Baldwin is close enough. Good night -jus remember to be positive on occasion! We all went to Pitt and not Pedo St.

Comment by AnotherClancyRebound 12.05.17 @ 11:45 pm

AnotherClancyRebound – Agree with your ‘B’ assessment for Narduzzi. I would definitely extend him, I think it’s a good, calculated risk with a guy who has only 3 years of HC experience. The bigger question to me is whether or not he has the right coordinators in place; the defense made obvious, huge strides this year despite a really young front 7, but that doesn’t mean Conklin is necessarily the right guy, time will tell. And Watson is the bigger question to me. Then again, we hired Canada and he was a huge success despite the usual ladies bitching about the hire from day one, so who knows with Watson, I think having a QB that can actually throw the ball will tell us a lot more next year.

And unlike Narduzzi who only has 3 years of HC experience, Stallings has 25, and I think we know enough to know what we have. So how many more years are we going to absorb with this botched contract? My guess: one more after this one. I noticed a portion of the 318 in attendance last night (maybe 10-20 students) were chanting ‘we want Brandin’. I hadn’t noticed that before, is that for Brandin Knight?

Comment by 1618mt 12.06.17 @ 10:26 am

Yeah, Brandin Knight. The Pitt players wanted him to coach, but that would have been even dumber than the Stallings hire.
